Reviews
Relatively unforgiving but very satisfying. I love the art style, the writing, and surprisingly, the plot.
Tense game, but very rewarding when carefully planed moves give good results. Looking forward to Xenonauts 2

I would recommend this game ever over similar, more modern alternatives with similar gameplay. I like this quite a bit more than XCOM 2, for a number of reasons. It may be a bit older, and not as shiny, but the AI is just as capable and thinks much more quickly. In a lot of strategy games in this genre, I find I'm waiting 20-40 seconds for the computer to take it's turn. In Xenonauts, the AI almost always ends it's turn in around 5-10 seconds, usually on the shorter end. The difficulty settings also feel like they're built for replayability - the easiest settings are still fairly difficult for someone new to the game, but beatable after a few tries or with slow, careful gameplay. The hardest difficulties are nearly impossible. I've had this game for quite awhile and I still come back every now and then. One of the best games in it's genre.
Absolute garbage in comparison to xcom defender, the grenades are woefully restricted.. there's 3 spaces in your craft transport that cannot be used when you take a vehical when there's clearly 3 spaces for 3 units. The alien craft doors remain open only during the aliens turn so your always garanteed to get shot dead if you used up all your time units and there's only two kinds of aliens for the first 3-4 months much less than the varied xcom defender. The research yields very little that you can manufacture in the first 3 months one of which is the Mig Foxtrot aircraft that only has missiles which doesn't work against the starter scout craft that can sidestep evade missiles and you'll never know the craft your against untill you first engage it, far too late by then.. you can research their guns but not use them unlike defender. The game also randomly crashes after you finish a ground assault. Frustrating to say the least, it only makes xcom defender truly outshine this even compared to the newer limited games that over simplify and only let you have 1 base globally.
Veterans of the OG MicroProse UFO: Enemy Unknown/X-COM: UFO Defense rejoice. Basically the classic aforementioned title with a new paint job, albeit with some minor new features like assigned soldier classes, a "quick grenade" feature on the battlefield, and a bay for ground vehicles.
very good game that holds true to the original X-Com series. Hopefully the sequel eventually becomes something more then just a lesser developed reskin. For the time being this is definitely the superior version.
very jank. multiple times i had things get stuck like the hunter car was stuck on a wall. my rocket guy got stuck where he couldnt reload anymore. the game tries to emulate x com difficulty but it somehow comes off even cheaper with the ways you will fail. game does not work well enough for all the crap they put you through and it sucks because i really want to love it but after my last glitch ruined another good game im done.
The thinking person's xcom. Way more realistic and serious in tone. Superior in all the ways that matter.
