This game is a "Gimmick-Driven Action Shooter" that blends the excitement of classic retro shooters with deep mystery-solving. Blast your way through hordes of monsters, but remember: brute force alone will not save this world. Hidden mysteries, ancient mechanisms, and secret pathways lie waiting in every stage. Only players with sharp eyes and daring hearts will awaken the lost order and restore balance to a fallen realm.

A once-prosperous high fantasy realm has been swallowed by darkness. Monstrous legions now roam freely — from classic fantasy foes like Slimes and Kobolds to terrifying creatures of the night such as Zombies and Vampires.
Choose your hero:
Male Warrior or Female Warrior — your choice of legend.
Then step into a beautifully crafted world filled with danger, secrets, and wonder.

In Xegrader, power does not come from grinding alone.
Your character becomes stronger only by uncovering hidden mysteries in each level. Solve puzzles, experiment with the environment, and search every corner of the stage.
Remember that magical feeling in classic games when you discovered a secret by accident — like flying into a hidden volcanic crater and finding a rare upgrade? That same thrill of discovery is at the heart of Xegrader. Observe. Experiment. Discover. Become unstoppable.

Golden Age Pixel Art: Gorgeous pixel art by Skipmore, capturing the charm of classic 8-bit and 16-bit adventures.
Modern Atmosphere: Dynamic lighting and shadow effects bring depth to the retro world, making it feel alive and immersive.
Epic Soundtrack: Music by Tadahiro Nitta blends emotional melodies with FM-style chiptune textures — perfectly matching the tension and excitement of your quest.

This game gives me feels!
This game is a delight. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you ever liked tower of druaga, you'll probably really enjoy this game. I wish I had access to a notebook taped to the side of this game to get hints from other players, but the achievement names are nice hints for my taste. Don't look at them if you really love secret hunting. I thought the first fairy was maybe a little too well hidden since it's pretty important, but there are a LOT of really fun secrets. If I understand the leaderboard, I have found less than half! I love that games like this game be made today. If this sounds like your kind of thing, it won't let you down.
favorite release of 2026 as of writing. highly engaging blend of shooting and Druaga-style secrets. for a very specific kind of person (that person is me). the use of steam achievements to hint towards a general state of secret-finding mind is really good for people new to this style of obtuse trial-and-error business. there is one secret very early in the game that is utterly demented and will really only ever be found by accident... but that's somehow the joy of it sometimes. pitch-perfect soundtrack with some great atmospheric tunes. maybe my favorite soundtrack so far this year as well?... very cute graphics with sharp detail. i love some of the enemy graphics, especially the golden knights. there are some lovely overlay effects as well, giving each stage a distinct tone and air. the available PC-8001 and MSX2 DLC versions are charming, though i wouldn't recommend them for anybody that isn't a total freak for the game. i do wish it were ROMs of those versions instead of ports of them to this new godot version. if i have on qualm with it, the first two stages last far too long even for secret hunting. they desperately need trimming, or more enemies, or to be combined, or something. the pacing and stage length beyond that is excellent. 1-life clear on average difficulty. looking forwards to diving back in to find more secrets and to try to conquer expert.
