Simple, short, fun game =) I enjoyed the boss levels the most (especially the fire and final boss), so having the boss rush mode was great. I finished the story mode with Norman, but I ended up finding Buck and Axis more fun when playing the boss rush mode. Seeka made the game too easy for me, but is probably a nice option for others.
Really enjoyed playing through this! Good variety of environments and enemies, playing on normal difficulty had its tough moments but not unfairly so. Cool to see that there are 3 other characters and a boss rush mode that I can go back and play as well. Pretty great amount of content for the price. ... also arachnophobia mode when?
Fun simplistic top down shooter, encourages replayability with difficulty modes and different characters as well as a boss rush mode. Easy recommend, especially on sale.
Short and sweet game about blastin' spiders and other assorted insects in a tiny tank. Plays like Isaac, but each stage is a handcrafted challenge, so the main challenge is finding the best route through each with the 4 different characters. The visuals are super cute and the music is surprisingly good. For the price of a coffee, I'd recommend it!
Simple little tank game reminiscent in some ways of dungeon crawling roguelites, cute music & visuals, impressed by the boss battles & it has a handful of characters to choose from that have their own gameplay styles. (& a boss rush mode). From what I gather it was made by one person with a little help, pretty impressive for what it is. :) reasonably priced as well, though for full transparency, I was given a key to stream it for free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFMtoJ7PyT0
that spider can get this shmeat on gooby
Fun lil' twin stick shooter with some replayability For the cost to game ratio, they really put the "little" in Little Elf Tanks, no i'm not sure what I mean by that.
Little Elf Tanks is a compact, fast-paced indie shooter that leans unapologetically into classic arcade design, prioritizing immediacy, responsiveness, and replayable action over narrative complexity. Developed and published by Friendly Fire Software, the game drops players into a whimsical fantasy setting where small but heavily armed elves pilot tanks to fend off overwhelming waves of monstrous spiders. From the outset, it is clear that the goal is not to tell an elaborate story, but to deliver a tight, energetic gameplay loop that captures the thrill of old-school top-down shooters with a playful, modern twist. The moment-to-moment gameplay is built around twin-stick shooter fundamentals, with smooth, responsive controls that allow players to move independently from their firing direction. This design encourages constant motion, as enemies flood the screen from all sides and projectiles quickly fill the battlefield. Combat feels immediate and satisfying, with shots landing cleanly and enemy reactions clearly communicated through visual feedback. The game wastes little time easing players in, instead throwing them directly into chaotic encounters that reward quick reflexes and spatial awareness. Character choice adds a layer of variety to the otherwise straightforward structure. Players can select from multiple elf pilots, each bringing distinct attributes or abilities that subtly change how encounters unfold. Some characters may favor speed and evasive play, while others lean toward heavier firepower or special attacks that can clear space in dire moments. These differences encourage experimentation and help prevent the experience from becoming monotonous, especially for players who enjoy mastering different playstyles across repeated runs. Enemy design reinforces the game’s arcade roots. Swarms of spiders come in numerous forms, from basic fodder that overwhelms through sheer numbers to tougher variants that demand priority targeting. Boss encounters punctuate each level, serving as climactic tests of movement, timing, and pattern recognition. These battles are often the highlight of a run, pushing the screen to its limits with dense bullet patterns while still remaining readable enough to feel fair. Success depends less on memorization and more on staying calm under pressure and making smart positioning choices. Visually, Little Elf Tanks embraces a bright, pixel-art aesthetic that feels deliberately nostalgic without appearing outdated. The environments are colorful and cleanly drawn, allowing players to easily track enemies and incoming fire even during the most frantic moments. Explosions, projectiles, and enemy defeats are punctuated with exaggerated effects that add energy without cluttering the screen. The overall presentation strikes a balance between charm and clarity, which is especially important in a bullet-heavy shooter where visual overload can quickly become frustrating. The game’s structure is intentionally concise, consisting of a limited number of stages designed for repeat play rather than a long, linear campaign. Difficulty settings provide a meaningful way to scale challenge, making the game approachable for newcomers while still offering a stiff test for players seeking mastery. Additional modes, such as boss-focused challenges, further extend replay value by allowing players to jump straight into the most intense encounters. Steam achievements add light incentives to experiment with different characters and difficulty levels, encouraging players to fully engage with the game’s systems. Audio design supports the action without demanding attention. Sound effects provide clear feedback for firing, hits, and enemy actions, reinforcing the sense of impact and momentum. Music keeps the pace energetic, complementing the rapid flow of combat without overwhelming the player’s focus. Together, the audio and visual elements create a cohesive arcade atmosphere that feels lively and engaging throughout repeated sessions. That said, Little Elf Tanks is very clear about its scope, and this clarity comes with limitations. Players looking for deep progression systems, narrative development, or mechanical complexity beyond reflex-driven combat may find the experience too light. There are no sprawling skill trees or long-term upgrades to chase, and once all stages and characters have been explored, the primary motivation to return lies in self-imposed challenges and high-score style improvement rather than new content. Overall, Little Elf Tanks succeeds by delivering exactly what it promises: a focused, energetic twin-stick shooter that values responsiveness, readability, and fun above all else. Its charming pixel art, tight controls, and relentless pacing make it an enjoyable choice for fans of arcade-style action games and bullet-hell shooters. While its small scale and limited depth mean it is unlikely to occupy players for dozens of hours, it stands as a polished and satisfying burst of arcade fun that respects the player’s time and skill. Cute little game! Easy to pick up and play. It's beatable in a little over an hour, and I had a fun time doing so :)
The third game in Friendly Fire's catalog drops with a bang! Little Elf Tanks boasts charming graphics, catchy music, and intuitive design! The gameplay feels really smooth and the control scheme natural and easy to pick up. I've played just the first level and the game has already left a positive impression on me, and I can't wait to play more! Edit: I've completed a playthrough and can comfortably say I'm impressed with this game! The time per playthrough is short, and there are multiple characters to encourage replayability, which is something I like to see. The graphics in the game use a simple and charming art style that is pleasing to the eye, with a great use of colors to pair with the game's whimsical themes. The animations were smooth and lively, giving a great sense of action on the screen in each of the levels. The music was catchy and did well to set the mood in each level. Although the game isn't narratively deep, the foreboding sense of fighting against a powerful, invading force could be felt in each composition. The gameplay, again, was smooth and intuitive, with well designed levels that tested the player in scenarios that built upon previous skills, and allows for folks with different playstyles to experiment and make their respective playthroughs unique to them. Definitely looking forward to the next title from this studio!
