playing the series since X2 and this is really a masterpice now with the 9.0 update
I have played the X-games for 27 years now as "X: Beyond the Frontier" was released in 1999. After spending a couple of thousand hours in this game both on GOG and on Steam I can easily say that this is truly the best sandbox space game out there. It's one of a kind and there is nothing like it out there. It's a "Kenshi in Space", a "Mount & Blade in Space" or a "FPS Stellaris". And with total conversion mods like "X4 Star Wars Interworlds/SWI 0.91" (the best Star Wars mod for any game, ever) and "Star Trek: Starfleet Command IV version 0.3" there is so much content. The thousands of mods also improve the game and the total conversion mods a lot. Buy the Planets Collector's Edition bundle minimum and wait for a sale as it is on sale quite often. "It's full of stars."
Bestes Weltraumsim ever. Top!!!

Navigation is horrible. I spent all of my time trying to get from place to place. I requested a refund.
not sure if even the developers know how to interact with this thing. its definitely not a playable game.
coming back to this game in 2026 was like shooting myself in the head
**Edit: I tried this with Star Wars Interworlds for another 16 or so hours. Figuring out insurance billing would still be more fun.** Welp, I spent a hell of a lot of money already, and I can't return it. The voice acting on Timelines is all done by AI, and it's very, VERY bad. I am forced, I'm sure deliberately, to make a choice between playing a black man, or a white woman on the new expansion. I want to see ultramassive black holes and amazing space phenomenon. So far, the most interesting thing going on is I've been tasked with blowing up a rival space marijuana facility. I COULD DO THAT AT HOME. The game moves slow as molasses no matter what Open Universe start I try and a lot of it again appears to be a menu simulator. (It STILL edges out Bethesda's space game because at least I'm actually FLYING a SHIP in this game, but come on, so much of it is just a spreadsheet management.) The music is somehow even MORE boring than Inon Zur's soundtrack. I would never have purchased if I had any idea this was what the experience would be like right after finishing the tutorials, it looks nothing like the cool cutscenes in the advertisements in the steam store. I'm going to try the Star Wars mod because it might rescue this from being a total waste of my time and money. I would like Egosoft to do better than their best in the future. I would like them to do okay.
