Pros - Great art-style and overall presentation - Simple but engaging game-play and interesting puzzle design. Not too hard, game flows along nicely. - Auto-save - Different difficulty options. Cons - Ending was a little bit of an anti-climax. - Short, I left the game running a fair bit so my time is significantly overstated.
Cheap jumpsacres, stupid puzzles, "stealth". Ay let's update, finished this game. Initially I was very angry at first two puzzles. Those were lacking hints. Rest of puzzles were so-so but understandable. Except for last one, my sight is not very good and I it took a bit of squinting to figure out that second number was 8 (password is 1853) but that was not the case. Number 1 was written with just straight vertical line "I" pardon me that I thought that it was just some visual garbage that wasn't part of the solution. Now for the story. It was kinda gay and by that I don't mean that mc SPOILER had gay crush on the dead girl. "Oh no!" kid wasn't from welathy/middle class family lets pick on her for being poor. Game is to short to get invested in it not to mention to get attached to any character in it. I knowthat events in the game happens in the no so long past but characters acts ... well not believeable. Also WHO THE ♥♥♥♥ was that semi invisible amorphous monster? What killed me all this times? ♥♥♥♥'s stupid could have been okayish horror drama story but no gotta add "big monster" who isn't even realted to the plot.Okay lets summ it up. I don't get the story, I don't get how "culprit" manage to do what he did, I don't believe in that "acting". I didn't like anything in this game especially mc's face. Yuck.
I really wanted to like this game. The story is intriguing and I really like the art style but the awful "stealth" sections absolutely killed it for me. I made it to part 7 and finally just couldn't be bothered anymore. The exploration sections where you're doing some classic adventure type item hunting is neat but then the stealth comes back. "Oh look, it's cold and the music's amped up. Time to run a bit and then hide in a shadow until the baddie walks past and then hopefully I can get to whatever macguffin is in this area before I get stuck and have to do it again." At no point does it raise my fear or tension level--just my frustration and irritation. Stay away from this and either play a proper horror game or a proper adventure game (or find one of the many that combine both in less irritating and stupid ways).
Empieza interesante pero va perdiendo el interés a medida que avanza el juego, cayendo en una historia cliché y muy predecible. Aún así el juego esta bien, tiene buenos puzzles y es entretenido.
worst twisted story ending ever played
Was a very nice game, up until the final act of the story. It was a huge letdown. This couldve been a great start to a series. I love the pixel graphics, the puzzles were great, but the secret that you the player realize is stupid. I mean break the game stupid. Then there was not really an ending, it just leaves you going "Are you kidding me?! 5 hours of my life for that!" The big secret that you the player have as Holly is...she was in love with Grace. Thats it...you say that, the ghost tells you to leave the building because I guess shes going to explode the building and it ends. Get a professional writer please
This was short very linear horror game probably taking around 5 hours to complete with 1 to 3 hours more if you're going for 100%. I really like the art style and animations, I think they're quite nice and the grainy filter the game has is a nice touch, the sound and ambience is also quite nice, the intro music especially is a BOP, I think it's custom made for this game, makes me wonder if there's a full version somewhere out there. As for the story, it is quite an interesting one with some cool characters, and having to collect all those extra bits of lore/World building to learn about it all around the game is quite nice, the setting is especially interesting with where the town is located although the game itself isn't that scary at least I don't think it was (however I gotta say some moments did get me), the setting is, with all the flooding and such accompanying the story making you feel more trapped, very nice. Not too difficult of a game, harder game modes just making save points farther apart and less lives which after you run out you have to restart the game, given how short it is you could easily play this in one sitting and provided you have patience you shouldn't have trouble with the monsters which brings me to my last point. My only gripe with this game is in the story where it is never explained neither in dialogue or pieces of world building or anything I don't think where the monster came from or how were they created, it's a minor thing but I care about it. One other thing is one of the achievements says to complete the game in any difficulty but in reality you can only get it if you complete it on normal mode. Overall pretty good experience, would recommend!
Worse Than Death is a 2D indie horror title set amidst a small town's High School reunion attended by protagonist Holly and her friend Flynn, who are ten years removed from the school, while Holly herself having left the town itself shortly after graduation. While at first the setting seems innocuous enough, with Holly making smalltalk with old small town friends, the game quickly devolves into a near-Lovecraftian style of horror, as mysterious forces disrupt the reunion, and Holly is seperated from Flynn just as the only ways out of town are coincidentally blocked off via flooding or other disasters. Forced on foot without vehicles, the two attempt to regroup, but Holly's memories of high school, and of the events surrounding the tragic death of her friend Grace in Senior year come rushing back as she revisits her home town after a decade away, alongside the pressures she's long forgotten. Worse Than Death is a bit short, only taking me personally about 5 hours to beat its 8 chapters, but it feels its weight and I personally found myself really invested in its plot, characters, and worldbuilding. It uses graphic descriptions of text to greatly illustrate its horror despite the game's graphical stylings beineg influenced moreso by stylzed pixel art, and not being a nominally gross-out title in its pixelated imagery. The primary gameplay elements besides puzzle based ones are rooted around a series of interactions with lovecraftian horror elements that Holly has to avoid via hiding in darker spaces, and keeping her heart rate low. Despite being the sole mechanic, it keeps its difficulty a constant concern for the player, especially in the late game, where stragetic movement is far more emphasized in order to bypass foes. Without spoiling the broader themes of the game, WTD is a genuinely well-realized narrative title, broadly working as an unfolding narrative akin to a police procedural in how information about the town is relayed to Holly. Both information that's happened since she's moved, and darker secrets from before she even left. The game's narrative is very smooth and its resolution is both wonderfully written and demonstrated, and I personally really enjoyed it.
Nice little horror. Tells an interesting enough tale with some simple puzzles, a few scares, and some straightforward avoid the monster gameplay. It won't change the world but worth picking up on sale.
