This game is awesome if you want to just chill. It has multiple missions , wormholes and battles so it never gets bored to play :) . It has many different overall wormholes which you can try with seeds so the game is never the same!
*** Updated for April Patch *** Finally got a chance to pick this game up again... The addition of the explorer class vessels definitely cuts down the end game slog. Also pleasantly surprised how much better the addition of the small loops made the maps. I also enjoyed the addition of fog of war since it makes it easier to avoid unnecessary combats. Being able to pick up the loot pods while in combat was a big plus, especially for the five-wave combat instances, since I don't have to agonize about running out of fuel as long as I've got an extra movement point available. While there's still quite a bit of back and forth grind, the improvements are definitely chipping away at it. I still feel that the game could benefit from some additional things to discover, and some additional story line. I still want to know who blew up my station in the first place, and maybe even track them down for a final boss fight/fleet battle maybe? With all that being said, I'm changing my review to a recommend, although it's a very tentative recommend. I'm very curious to see what further developments are in store. *** Original review below. *** This game has a lot of unrealized potential and if development continues then I'd be happy to switch to a recommend, but in it's current state it's fun for a few hours and then it's just endless grind. I picked it up hoping for a 2-D "lite" version of Wing Commander: Privateer, and while I had fun initially the game ran out of content way too quickly. I started out playing the huge map with 500 systems and after ~10 hours I had completed the "story" missions, I had fully upgraded my ship, I had successfully cleared 10-15 combat instances, and I had only visited ~150 systems. Took another 20+ hours of grinding to fully explore all 500 and finish off 250 combat instances. No new enemies, no new quests, just the same 5 side missions available at every station, and random trash enemies slowing down the pace of the game. I then tried out a small map with only 200 systems and with my previous experience managed to fully explore and complete in about 10 hours. *** PROS *** - Graphics are pretty decent. No real issues telling different enemies, or inventory items apart. - Crafting is well developed. Logical steps to get from base materials to advanced items. - Early game has tension and excitement where random combats pose a genuine threat and require some thoughtful maneuvering to succeed. *** CONS *** - Not enough content to make late game exploration anything other than a slog. - Combat instances are nigh impossible without a fully upgraded elite fighter by which point the regular random combats are just annoying wastes of time. - Combat rewards. The only reasons to kill enemies: you don't have a good enough ship to avoid them, or you're running out of fuel. None of them drop weapons that aren't obsolete by the time you can kill the enemy that drops it. No loot-exclusive gear, anything they drop can be purchased or manufactured easily. - Timer for fast travel is egregious. Having to wait 15 minutes (minimum) in real time to use fast travel makes it almost pointless to include it. - Maps are very simple branch plots requiring a lot of back and forth through the same systems. No loops, or one-way wormholes, just a lot of dead-ends. - No real economy to speak of. Minuscule variations in prices between stations make trading pointless. - Variety is sorely lacking. If your core gameplay loop is centered around exploration then there should be new stuff to discover beyond the first 30 minutes of gameplay. *** NEUTRALS *** - Sound/Music. It's okay. nothing really great and I can mute the parts that get annoying.

Wormhole Adventurer is a delightful time. Simple, satisfying gameplay loop. You jump from wormhole to wormhole in your ship uncovering raw materials, space stations, and enemies. Gather the resources you can. Convert those resources into better modules and better ships. With better modules and a better ship, you can safely explore more of the map, take on more challenges, and obtain resources more efficiently overall. Your provided goal is to fully upgrade your home station In the early game you have to play safe. Don't take on more you can handle until you understand the combat (it's not hard to learn). Mark the kinds of stations you find. Some may sell a ship, high-level modules, or blueprints for high-level modules. Some allow for crafting. (These are 'critical' until the mid-late game, when you've unlocked crafting at your home station). Once you have a better ship, and most all of your modules are better than stock, you're in the mid game. I particularly enjoyed this part, probably for the scaling aspect. You're able to take on harder combats, traverse the map faster, and carry more loot. All the while on the lookout for the top tier equipment and rarer resources. (Legendary equipment and anything that's built with Lithium Ore). When you're fully decked out and wealthy (probably from selling scanners that dropped from strong enemies), the late game consists of finishing the upgrades to your home station, fully exploring the map, and clearing out combat instances. You'll come across combat instance nodes in your journeys, and they are essentially varying waves of challenging enemies that drop extraordinary loop. A ship with bonuses to its weapons (e.g., Fighters) is a must. As of now, I've only played a 500 node map. I'm in the ultra-late game of that run; its now about completionism. I had a great time making it to this point, in around 15~18 hours. Also, the developer is very responsive!
This is a really well put-together game. If you don't need splashy graphics, and like exploration, cargo hauling, mining, and tactical games, this is a fun game with a lot to sink your teeth into. There are plenty of surprises in this space puzzle box. I think people who like games like Etrian Odyssey will like this game, even though it's not a blobber. You'll want to be making your own maps and notes as you play.
It's alright. Would like if the wormhole numbering had some sense to it. A bit better searching for items, maybe some note system for where items you want are. The color scheme for the map could use more options, or the ability to write something in. I enjoyed it so far.
Not my kind of game exactly, would have wanted way more focus on combat, but the discord and community behind it is great so give it a look and definitely give the discord/twitch streams a visit!
I can't explain why this game is so entrancing. It really defies all logic. But it's great. Get it now.
A fest of repetitiveness; plays fine on Linux; you get what you paid for.
