Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow Third group
and discover more reviews from me.
How can a game be so bad and boring that it makes me file a refund for 2.61$ ?
Stealth horror games requiring you to hide until you can get past are nothing new to me. This game though really elevates this mechanic to a frustrating degree. There are no checkpoints or a save anywhere option, only manual save points spaced too far apart, first mistake. The enemies can run very quickly to kill you instantly, your movement is quite slow even when you "sprint", second mistake. Also, third mistake, there's barely any hiding places. Only a few closets that allow you to hide and if you're not near one you can try to maybe duck to block line of sight, because you're certainly not going to be able to run anywhere. After spending a good chunk of time exploring, collecting and even finding necessary story/quest items I was "killed" and was sent back to the last manual save. There were no save points in the area I was in nor did I receive a checkpoint because they don't exist. I won't keep playing a game that doesn't respect my time.
Works on Reverb G2. This is a neutral review: I did not enjoy playing Afterlife due to it's slow pace and tedious stealth sections, but it did scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of me at chapter 4, so I just noped out of it and watched the rest on YouTube. This should count as a success for a VR horror game :)
Excellent simulator of the nightmare time distortion experienced in a Wraith: The Oblivion Harrowing, with it feeling like it takes weeks to cross a room. I hope your thumb isn't one of your fetters because it will drop off from holding it on the trackpad so long.

Spoiler: no muchas.
Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, developed and published by Fast Travel Games, is a first-person VR horror exploration game set in the World of Darkness universe. Released on April 22, 2021, the game immerses players in the role of Ed Miller, a photographer who dies during a mysterious séance and becomes a Wraith—a restless undead spirit with unfinished business. The narrative unfolds within the eerie confines of the Barclay Mansion, a decaying estate filled with Hollywood decadence, occult research, and terrifying entities. The game's atmosphere is one of its most compelling aspects. The mansion is meticulously designed, with each room and hallway contributing to a sense of dread and unease. The use of lighting and sound design enhances this atmosphere, with distant footsteps, creaking floorboards, and whispering voices heightening the tension. The developers have been praised for creating an environment that doesn't rely on jump scares but instead builds a consistent and unsettling mood throughout the experience. Gameplay in Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife emphasizes exploration and stealth over combat. As Ed Miller, players utilize supernatural abilities such as Insubstantiality to pass through walls, Sharpened Senses to detect hidden clues, and Wraithgrasp to manipulate objects from a distance. These abilities are essential for navigating the mansion and uncovering its secrets. The game encourages players to avoid confrontations with hostile Spectres, spirits of wrath and vengeance, each with their own tragic backstory. This approach to gameplay has drawn comparisons to titles like Alien: Isolation, where tension and atmosphere take precedence over direct combat. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling, audio logs, and interactions with other spirits. While this method effectively conveys the story, some players have noted that the lack of traditional cutscenes or character interactions can make the plot feel disjointed at times. Additionally, the game's pacing has been a point of contention, with some players finding the slow movement and limited interaction options to be a hindrance to immersion. Critically, Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife has received generally favorable reviews. The game holds a Metascore of 76 based on 15 critic reviews and a user score of 7.9, indicating positive reception. Reviewers have praised the game's atmosphere, storytelling, and innovative use of VR mechanics. However, some have pointed out issues such as limited movement options, occasional glitches, and a reliance on fetch quests that can detract from the overall experience. In terms of accessibility, the game offers various comfort settings to accommodate different playstyles and preferences. Players can choose between seated or standing modes, adjust movement options, and customize comfort settings to reduce motion sickness. The inclusion of bHaptics support further enhances immersion, allowing players to feel sensations like goosebumps when near Spectres or vibrations when using certain abilities. In conclusion, Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife is a standout title in the VR horror genre. Its atmospheric design, innovative use of supernatural abilities, and immersive storytelling make it a compelling experience for fans of horror and the World of Darkness universe. While it may not appeal to those seeking action-oriented gameplay, its focus on exploration and tension-building offers a unique and engaging experience for players willing to delve into its haunting narrative. Rating: 6/10
Fantastic game; amazing environments and incredible sound design, and does an excellent job of telegraphing the core concepts of the Wraith: The Oblivion setting. A lot of it is running back and forth fetching, but the game keeps the tension high with a series of increasingly-aggressive and dangerous spectres trying to hunt you down. Tips: keep an eye out for collectibles (the first easily-missed one is in the very first room in the mansion, in a cabinet on the west wall), and note that the Memory Palace becomes available from save points.
