Before judging it too harshly one should keep in mind Regenesis is not only free, but also a student affair. I think both are on display with potential for improvement in future projects. Earth has fallen on hard times with apocalyptic ecological event driving humanity underground to survive the onslaught of mutated plant life, and other dangers. Our party of three survivors makes subway their home base with support team in tow backing their missions through freshly crafted weapons and bought supplies. I've told you the story in about as many words as the game does and you can forget lore tidbits or fancy descriptions to glean meaning from. Narrative isn't really Regenesis' strong suit, but nor is it a requirement regardless. What is on display is a rather basic SRPG backed by the closest equivalent to a system seen in Grandia aka there's a timeline at the bottom where both your characters' as well as enemies' activity is shown on. When icons move from left to their rightmost mark characters input and activate their commands. Unlike in the aforementioned JRPG there's no actively delaying enemies by attacking them. What you see is what you get, and without stats or anything that would let you see why someone is acting faster than everyone else you're left to experiment. Which wouldn't be a problem if all combat scenarios weren't boss battles that get tweaked a bit for later levels past the first two. What I'm not-so-subtly saying here is you'll see everything Regenesis has to offer in under an hour and you'll wonder why it even has a crafting system before realizing character abilities are tied to their weapon as each subsequent upgrade switches out one of the four available ones. This leaves your characters with options to move, use ability, use item and, well, wait as you tick down available number of points they get to spend per-turn. Circumventing numerical advantage you have on bosses by giving them cheap movement so they can get to you from anywhere on the map was not my idea of fun, though. Game does have some neat features like Events happening during battles that can change the tide, like wind blowing and sliding everyone by a single tile. Which can potentially knock characters into obstacles and stun them for a while. What do you have at the end of the day? A very short game that can be completed in under an hour if you just want 100% achievements, but under the hood it's an SRPG that needs way more meat on its bones compared to what it has. If you want difficulty I'd say Regenesis airs on the easy side.

Cutesy turn-based RPG, It was a fun little experience considering I personally don't play these types of games. It's not perfect, enemy health bars would be a great addition, and the music got repetitive and annoying fast, but you can pet the dog so the game is a 11.5/10. + The game is free and a student project, well done :)
I really wanted to like this game, as it seems like a little project with a lot of heart. How small it truly is, i wont see for a while if at all. Regenesis is somehow grindy. i beat the first boss 4 times and got 1 item for better equipment. This wouldnt be so bad if the 2nd boss werent strangely difficult. Since this game is essentially a boss rush, I got stuck on the second level. Strange design decision, seeing as the upgraded version seems to have minimal differences outside of a single new ability. Also, the drone weapon is utterly confusing.how do I deploy "Zap". theres no button to do that nor is there an explanation on how. Also Also, how do I get more P (money) for items? you need items for healing since the bow ability is essentially useless (while it heals in an area, it heals less then the basic attack of one of the 2nd boss' summons. It summons 3 at a time.) and to my knowledge, that ability is the only non item healing method. I see potential with this project, since the event system could add a lot of nuance, but poor balancing, bad explanation of mechanics outside of the tutorial, and random loot apparently kill the game past the 1st boss.
"Regenesis" a poorly made student project, a 2D retro pixel turn based strategy game in isometric view. I guess if I was teaching students to make games, the first thing I'd teach them is that 3D graphics made 2D graphics obsolete in the mid 1990's, and that even mobile phones can do 3D graphics now, so there's no excuse for not doing the job properly. What do you do in the game? It's a weird sci-fi/fantasy turn based strategy game with some inventory management/upgrading as you fight weird alien monsters in a plodding turn based gameplay style. It might even have been a great success if the graphics were from this century. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 12 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

i think ill go with the negative, as i dont know if i have seen the game at its fullest, as there is a gamebreaking bug quite early. i struggle to find the right words for it. i cant call it ok. i cant call it good. i cant call it bad. maybe i can call it ugly? one thing i think i can say, they could have done better, but they did not.
