Word Forward

You have to like word games and have good English vocabulary to get the most out of a game like Word Forward. The interface is simple and reasonably well done, but dragging diagonally between the squares on the board can sometimes take more than one attempt. If I could wish for one thing it would be Steam achievements, because without it, the game can become quite monotonous.

Brain-pleasing, highly addictive puzzle game with an earworm of a theme tune. Would 100% recommend to all of the word lovers out there. One minor complaint: when I beat Level 500, the menu stopped working. I consider that a crash. Tried it again and got the same result. Not much of a congratulatory message! :-)

Great game. I'm a big fan of the dev and this is just another lovely game by them. The UI and music are insanely pleasing and relaxing. It's more of a puzzle game than a word game, which is perfect. It requires quite a bit of strategy, which adds nice depth. I recommend it.

I am going to keep plugging away at this, but unless something significant changes I simply cannot give this a thumbs up. FYI, I got this on a really good sale, but it hasn't even been worth the half a buck I paid. Everything seems to work, I think, thought as a word puzzle it is bland and flavorless, as one would expect. This wouldn't be an issue if the game was interesting, or fun, but it isn't. Right from the very first puzzle, it is Brazil nut busting hard. I consider myself reasonably bright, and am university educated, well read with a hefty vocabulary, but there is no getting into this one. One would expect the addition of a short tutorial and a learning curve starting at the low end to allow a person to get into the flow, but aside from a quick rundown of the controls and a handful of options, nada. It is so bad it makes me wonder if this is the same game the other reviewers played! Thumbs down on this offering.

Word Forward is a game about clearing the board by creating as many words as you can with what you’re given. Each round starts off with a predetermined grid of letters and 5 modifiers to use as you choose to. Your modifiers really open up the world of possibilities by a significant margin. You have 2 preset letters that you can choose to switch out with any letter of your choosing on the board. Additionally, you have the option to select any letter on the board and make it what you want. The fourth option available to you is to destroy any single block. Lastly, there is an option to re-roll every single letter on the board. All of these options really give this game its own personality and dynamic. Each puzzle is a challenge that tests your inner dictionary while at the same time a puzzle to clear the whole board with as little help as possible from your modifiers. Initially, clearing the board may seem simple, but it is more certainly not. The blocks do not move as you clear the board, so you have to be really careful not to leave squares off to themselves or with no connectable options close by. Each letter can only connect to another letter in an adjacent box. After you manage to clear a board you will be ranked bringing yet another layer of intricacy to the game. Getting that 3 start rating requires you to clear the board and have at least 3 modifiers left unused. It is worth noting that if word games are difficult for you, this one will really be rough. I love puzzle games and am typically pretty good at them, however I definitely found myself struggling at times here. As I enjoy a challenge, it is a refreshingly welcome feature, but if you’re looking for something relaxing, this may not be what you are after. I feel Word Forward is about pushing your mind and is not provide any leisure relaxing gameplay. The only area of this game I feel could have used a little more work would have just been in the visuals. Obviously, there is not much in terms of graphics as it is just a word game, However something to dampen the blinding whiteness of the screen would have been very welcome. Maybe if the screen changed color with each puzzle or something like that to add a little flair. The game by no means needs it, but this is just an observation that I would have appreciated. Beyond the visuals, the audio is okay and serves its purpose, but for me personally was distracting, so I found myself just muting it. When it all comes down to it, Word Forward is a great game that took a format that has been done several times but did something brand new to give it’s own flair. This title also offers a ton of puzzles to keep you busy for a while. To any fan of puzzles or word games, I feel this should be an addition to your library as you’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment for clearing stages and push brain to the next level.

It's like Wordle, in that they both have words and spelling. But without the green and yellow blocks that give me the dopamine hits. And I can't brag on twitter about how good I am when I actually took all 6 guesses on my burner to learn the word and then cheated on my main. It's not my fault the new york times made the game so much harder. They got me struggling out here, like come one, I just wanna solve the thing and feel good about myself. Why must I be reminded of how bad my vocabulary is when I'm faced with a word that uses the same letter twice. Anyways... 10/10

[b]Word Forward[/b] is a more strategic version of the rather common F2P word puzzle games that you can typically find on Google Play or the App Store... you know, the sort of word games where you have to clear all the letters in every level by linking them up. The objective here isn't to make the longest word or to get the rarest ones, but to make sure you use all the tiles. The minimum number of tiles per word here is 3 so if you're left with 2 tiles at the end, you're screwed and will have to restart the level. For the most part, you'll probably be planning all your moves in advance before you even make the first move. You can also swap letters and unlike the other tools, you'll usually start off with more than 1 Letter Swap point with the chance to earn more as you create more 4/more lettered words. Since swapping is basically "cost-free" here, you'll probably want to make use of it... a lot! Some of the tools might not be unique per se, but they are quite flexible. For instance, usually, for Letter Swap, you can only swap adjacent letters, but this is not the case here. There's also a tool that works like the blank tile in Scrabble - you can choose which letter you want to replace a tile with. You'll get an Undo button too, but that's only applicable for a single move. You can't, for example, undo all the way back to the very beginning if you're almost done with a puzzle. Not to mention, if you want to get a star for the level you've just completed, you can only use at most 2 out of the 5 tools given at the bottom (Letter Swap is the only exception). Since there's only 1 star to get, it's all or nothing here it seems. There are 500 levels in total so the game offers plenty of playtime for you to agonize over every word you make, or in the case of a perfectionist, get all the stars. The only downside is that the game doesn't let you know that you can only have, at most, 5 Letter Swap points at any time. So, don't bother accumulating all the swap points before using them - make sure to use the points as you go. P/S: The game's originally a paid mobile game app, and the Steam version costs around the same price as the mobile version, which is pretty sweet! I really like this game! Totally my kind of puzzle game. Super simple, but challenging and satisfying.
