I think this game is absolutely fantastic. I really enjoy learning languages, I'm hoping at some point to be able to travel and I would love to be able to converse with people in their native tongues. While I am not certain this game alone will make someone fluent, I do think it is worth while for those who are learning via immersion. All opinions are subjective, this one just happens to be mine.
This game is just amazing! Thanks so much to everyone who already put a lot of work into it ! finally someone has taken the leap to make a game out of language learning. Duo is so outdated , its very slow and you dont really use your brain. And school language teaching / learning is still failing just by its nature. Language learning should be natural and should be fun and this game just delivers this :) Yay! Cant wait to try out the mobile version. Hopefully WonderLang is including European Portuguese in the future. Most learning platforms only offer Brazilian Portuguese... which is essentially different, especially in their pronunciation and a lot of common words / formal and informal way of speaking. I am looking forward to the future versions
Stanowczo odradzam zakup, kasa w błoto. Gra totalnie niedopracowana!
It has been amazing conciliating and combining this games with German classes. Personally I don't game that much, so playing it on MacOS allowed me to play, work and learn a new language. There are some bugs, some missing features. but we have got a Discord channel to report it all and talk to developers. Has everything to grow more and more.
I had the opportunity to try WonderLang as a language teacher, and I have to say it’s an excellent game for several reasons. First, it has a fantastic story that lets you explore a unique world and meet many different characters. But from a language-learning perspective, it really shines at the beginner levels. The game requires to know English as it is the source language, but then provides clear explanations for each new language and, above all, a huge amount of input. You’re constantly exposed to conversations where you can check word definitions and practice new vocabulary. There’s a great balance between reading, listening, writing, and even some speaking, plus a flexible combat system that adapts to your needs (you can skip o pass them faster). This makes WonderLang well-suited for independent learners, offering a much richer start than simple exercises on apps like Duolingo. I highly recommend it, and I personally enjoy using it for Portuguese and Japanese.
Muito bom, faltou colocar teste de dificuldade no tutorial pra saber o seu nível do idioma, tem muitas palavras que conheço e alguns não, ler uma história vira um quebra cabeça interessante
I’ve been doing the German route and planning to start Japanese route soon, to play both at the same at the same time. I think it works really well as a tool for practicing and reinforcing what you’ve already learned, while also picking up new stuff naturally. The game explains a lot, but not everything. A good chunk of the learning happens by inference (is that how you call it?), which honestly feels closer to how you’d learn in real life. Sometimes you get quizzed on words or forms you haven’t seen yet, but there’s no punishment for getting it wrong. I’ve come to like that, it pushes you to guess, and even if you’re off, you learn from the correction. It’s more about trial, another way to learn. What surprised me is how motivating it feels. I’ll read an NPC line in Japanese and suddenly realize I understood the whole thing. Or I’ll notice a German word I’ve only half-seen before, and the context makes it click. Those little moments of progress feel great. Gameplay-wise, it’s a pretty classic RPG style. Exploring a town (just got to see one so far), talking to characters, battling monsters. But instead of grinding for XP, you’re basically grinding language vocabs. The monster battles that use vocab or conjugations are clever. They keep you engaged but they can get repetitive, but you have options to have less or faster fights. I also like that the game doesn’t force one pace. If I’m focused, I can sit with the grammar explanations and really study. If I just want to play casually, I can explore and still pick things up without feeling like I wasted my time. Overall, WonderLang feels like a mix between a game and a study tool. It’s not perfect (like some UI elements are not great, mouse movement does not work 100%, so need to use the keyboard), but the “learn by trying” approach makes it feel natural and less stressful than a traditional course. Honestly fun so far.
Amazing game to learn a new language. The story is really cute, the game looks nice, and keeps you engaged. I love that is combines gaming with learning. It is also good you can adjust the frequency of encounters and such. Highly recommend it!
Game is awesome but deffo in Beta - in need of a lot of bug fixes - but it's gorgeous, made with love and excellent story - I am looking forward to keeping my feedback flowing to see this game become as big as duolingo - but waaaaaaay better as it's immersive and employs techniques that the great teachers like Michel Thomas made famous.
It's a great game and educational resource. Much better than Duolingo and similars as it teaches a language in a real life context. It's making wonders for my italian and I am sure that will help me reach my dream of becoming a poliglot eventually!
