Selene's Unbearable Night is a horror, over the shoulder, third person view, adventure game. Think Resident Evil 4 mixed with some Tomb Raider climbing, the TEMU version! (Credit one of my online friends for this joke, it fits perfectly.) The locations in this game include the interior of a house, a plethora of undergound corridors, and a forest level plucked straight out of a Tomb Raider game. It's all super low budget, but it has its moments. It doesn't take itself seriously. Pure cheesy silly fun. The game takes approximately 3 hours to complete. + The controls work well. Climbing, dodging and shooting enemies becomes second nature really quick. + Some of the puzzles are original and fun to complete. + The game moves forward at a fast, brisk pace. I played 3 hours in one sitting. + Some of the music used during the game's boss battles and cutscenes rocked hard. + Fully voice acted, not AI. + Fun boss fights. The last boss fight was interesting. +/- The dialog is super cheesy and the story hardly makes any sense. Characters appear out of nowhere, the layout of the levels do not make sense, and the writing is full of plot holes. The thing is, the whole thing is so bad that it's comical. - Theres a bug sometimes where your bullets do not fire where you are aiming. I had to set the resolution down from 4K to VHS quality to fix this. - Some zombies walked through walls. - The game is priced high. If interested try to get it on sale for around $3.00-5.00 if you can. The game is super camp jank and doesn't make sense, however it has a certain charm and I did have fun with it. Overall: 6.5/10
They and Us, Daymare 1998, The Walking Evil, The Chant, Connection: The Nightmare Within, Edengate: The Edge of Life, Broken Pieces, Fear the Dark Unknown и Despair Blood Curse.
The difference between this and the first game is night and day. The dev aims for bigger and better with each game, and this one turned out most solid of them all. A third-person horror-shooter with light puzzles, around 3 hours long, and relatively easy to 100%. Difficulty is good overall and has a nice pace, but controls feel a bit floaty. There's a few pretty cool ideas, and some of the mechanics are quite impressive for the smaller budget. Also pretty good scares, especially great graphics and animation work (those tight jeans are SWEET), and major props for going fully voice-acted!
Good points: Decent puzzles (for the part where you actually do puzzles) Graphics are alright Combat is... passable. Bad points: Nonsense dialogue that you can kind of follow along, but doesn't really have much context A meandering plot that has a bunch of holes and is told in a very disjointed fashion Multiple bugs with camera and terrain (lots of places your camera clips through walls, at least one chase scene where you start facing towards the enemy, unfinished terrain where you can just see the unfinished area outside the outdoor map) Godawful enemy AI Honestly it's not good. It's just "we have Resident Evil at home" and I wouldn't buy it over maybe 2.99
I can't recommend this at full price, but if you get it with a big enough discount during a Steam sale it's not bad. It's kind of like ordering Resident Evil through Temu. The voice acting and visuals can get pretty janky and sometines my guns randomly stopped working in the middle of a fight, but it's something you can knock off in an afternoon without pulling your hair out (as long as you save often). The AI companions' guns always worked though. They shot me in the back multiple times.
A GREAT game until you go through the basement door. Then it becomes an unplayable mess. To all indie devs, unless you really know what you're doing, forget about combat and just make good PUZZLE games.
This game was a lot of fun! It had elements of things i have seen in other horror games/ movies but put plenty of new engaging twists in to keep it fresh. I will definitely recommend this one.
An instant cult classic—literally! I absolutely loved this game. Think of it as a poor man’s Resident Evil, janky but with surprising features you wouldn’t expect from an indie title. Every minute was a joy to play. The save system is forgiving, and the story is intriguing. Enjoyed it from start to finish and never got bored.
this indie horror developer makes sexy female protagonists, that alone is worth the buy. combat is like re4 style, guns and melee weapons. VA is good. not too hard puzzles. so far the developer has made 3 cheap horror games, and I mean cheap as in price, and I hope he continues to make horror games.
