I know I'm very late to this, but here goes. I've never played any Wolfenstein game (besides an hour or so of Return to Castle Wolfenstein), so I was going into this blind. I had fairly high expectations, given the acclaim this game receives, and the prologue chapter and the level right after met them. Most of the game after was just a tedious slog. The gunplay was just serviceable. The weapons didn't feel super punchy, but they were tactile enough. I found the arsenal pretty limited for my taste. I like games like Doom and Half-Life where you have tons of choices, this game only had a handful. The stealth gameplay was pretty mediocre and boring, but I'm also not a big stealth fan to begin with, so take that with a grain of salt. The game will position enemies in a way where stealth is encouraged, but I prefer just running in games blazing, which was a complete nightmare, even on medium difficulty. The enemies are bullet sponges and most levels were insanely cramped. It got to a point where I was hardstuck with the amount of enemies I was facing in such a confined space, forcing me to lower the difficulty. Despite this, the bossfights were extremely easy. The soundtrack was pretty good but the dialogue was pure cringe the whole way through. There are too many characters with not enough actual characterization to care about. The plot has a lot of contrived moments, but I think this is forgivable. However, the story was too over-the-top and the Nazi regime never feels like a true, existential threat to BJ and the resistance. That being said, I recommend the game because I thought it was enjoyable enough in spite of its flaws, but I don't see how anyone can call it a masterpiece.
Very fun game with a good story. just getting back into the wolfenstein games after having fun with the newer dooms. Cant wait to play the next one.
