About
Witchfire is a single-player RPG shooter from the creative minds behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm. Embark on perilous expeditions, vanquishing foes to enhance your powers and arsenal. Scavenge valuable resources and retreat to your sanctuary, or push your luck by confronting Familiars— the powerful guardians of the witch.

Skill and knowledge are essential for success against the Witch of the Black Sea and her witchfire-fueled army. If you die, return to the battlefield for a one-time chance to reclaim what you lost, or attack again with a new plan.

Explore vast, immersive biomes and choose your battleground to confront the witch's forces. Each completed encounter strengthens you and your arsenal through the roguelite system called Arcana. There are countless ways to build your preyer and dominate the witch.

Only the most wicked sinners are transformed into preyers, undead assassins sustained by witchfire flowing through their veins. In the base of operations known as the Hermitory, you can choose from a wide selection of distinctive weapons, spells, and artifacts to build your own preyer.

On each expedition, you can extract your looted items or, if you feel confident, confront the witch’s Familiar to unlock new areas and powerful items and upgrades.

Piece together a story from the past to save the future. Investigate ships crashing on the verge of the witch’s land and locate the artifact that can tip the scales in the ongoing war between the Church and the witches.

During the Early Access period, Witchfire will undergo changes, including new areas, enemies, weapons, and tools of destruction. Help us shape the game to reach its full potential!

Everything you want in a shooter: -Guns are the star of the show. There is magic and melee but they compliment instead of replace the guns. (No grenades) -Every gun is unique and plays differently. Guns have special effects that are based on how well you play. Landing headshots with a sniper rifles for example reward you in ways such as refunding bullets, burning enemies in your scope, or my favorite: a circular damaging AoE that is based on the player's point of view instead of based on the enemy's geographic location. -Cooldowns are based on kills and damage instead of time. This makes it so much fun to fight large groups of enemies and is another example of being rewarded based on how well you play. -Equipment is unique and provides a range of abilities instead of "+5 Defense" -Heavy weapons are powerful and the ammo drops are well balanced for them. I felt comfortable using them throughout missions instead of just saving every shot for bosses only. -There are plenty of optional challenges and even a difficulty dial of sorts to increase while you are on a mission. If you are having a great run you can decide to increase the pain for better rewards. -Ammo for the primary weapons is not pouring out of slain enemies. You actually have to plan your encounters and work on your accuracy. Missing too much can be punishing as the melee attack is not something you can rely for a full encounter. There isn't a hidden game mechanic that will guarantee an ammo drop just before you run out of bullets. If you spray and pray (no pun intended) you will run out of bullets and be effectively defenseless. I really enjoy resource management so I found it to be a lot of fun weighing every shot in the back of my mind. -Even when you die you still make progress. Much less progress than winning but still as long as you persist you will progress. Your time is respected. -The game expands at your pace. You aren't hit with a ton of tutorials, mechanics, gear, etc. Instead as you complete the main objective the game's world becomes a little more difficult and complex, but also more interesting and rewarding at the same time. -There isn't loads of text to slow you down but if you do decide to read, you might notice the writing is well done and reads like a book. The vocabulary used matches the setting very well instead of reading too modern. Complimented by great voiceover by the characters. -The guns have visual indicators on their exterior that subtly inform the player when their special ability is in use or ready to be used. -The maps are varied from wide open fields to cramped streets between buildings. -Enemies are pretty smart. If they are far away they will take cover and if they are out in the open they will try ducking their heads away from your reticle. When they are numerous they will overwhelm you from the front well one or two flank from the side. Melee enemies can also leap towards or away from your position rather swiftly making them much more interesting challenging compared to other fps games where they simply run towards you in a straight line. -Even though the maps don't change the enemy placements randomly change after each level up. It really keeps the game feeling fresh and keeps my weapon loadout everchanging. For example one random enemy spawn pattern that I got after I leveled up happened to be a dozen or so enemies right outside the entrance of the stage. It took me a few attempts to learn what would work best for that particular setup. I would try running past them, hunkering down nearby cover with defensive magic, running around in circles with a submachine gun. But what ended up working was to come crashing through the entrance portal armed with a shotgun and taking the group head-on. It was a blast. Anyway, great game I held off on buying it for a while because the price seemed a bit steep compared to other early access shooters. But when I finally did pick it up on sale I realized the price was to match the higher higher level of quality. I also read the latest dev diary and it is clear they are incredibly committed to this game. They seem incredibly honest and down to earth, even including screenshots of some of the feedback they are reading through on different platforms. They certainly earned my respect and I am excited to see what comes next for Witchfire!
Good looking environment, interesting and fresh mechanics, but i´m just not having fun
I can't stop playing this game... Its slow at the start but once you get a hang of it you just keep playing it no stop... It runs butter smooth too
Dark Souls styled FPS?! I'm in!
So ein toller Spielplatz. Viel zu entdecken, viel freizuschalten, tolles gun play & feeling, spannende Atmosphäre, motivierender meta progress.
It reminds me more of Monster Hunter than Dark Souls. FPS - extraction shooter - DOOM weapons style in MH like arenas. EDIT: After playing some more, it has one of the best weapon designs I've seen. Either very unique or very reliable weapons. 10/10 in this regard For me it ticks all the boxes. Enemies are actually quite varied from area to area. A LOT of weapons and gear to level up. Weapons range from truly unique to more basic but reliable. You have quite a bit of room to switch your build up. I am partial to using a lot of spells because well more variety and more fun. I haven't reached end game yet and only leveled up like half the weapons. Surely a few still to discover and i can't say I've used all of them to their full extent yet. There is a lot of different mechanics for the weapons coupled with rings, relics etc. that can really change the gameplay and i find that it is quite solid. You know how a game just hits all the right buttons? It's not bombastic. It's just good. Very curious how it will be later on after release and hopefully expansions if not dlc.
