Play with BuilldGDX ! Turns the sluggish DOS port into an HD remake with better mouse controls and improvements. Created an easy link to download the HD texture packs: http://e.pc.cd/eHwotalK
The witchaven sequel delivers 15 levels in an improved but rather short form. The ending provides a premise for a sequel that unfortunately was never realized due to the closure of the creators at the time. New creatures and battles to be carried out, but with similar flaws to the first one in its delivery to steam.

Unlike with the first game I actually had this game as a kid but I hardly played back then and now I can tell you why. You take damage for seemingly no reason (there are hitscan enemies with magic) and even the small things such as sounds are annoying. One thing I found that surprised me is that they ripped off the grunt the doomguy makes when your trying to open doors but its actually a wall. Don't even buy this game as a curiosity and buy the Heretic/Hexen games.
Such a guilty pleasure! Such a clunky, clumsy, forgettable 90s farce! My favorite thing about this beloved nostalgic nightmare of mine is the sound effects. They will always deliver to my ears, especially the coughing death and the murmuring floating-Demon-Old-Hag rumblings. So glad to find it on Steam! This unfortunate attempt at a high-fantasy-melee-first-person-Doom-clone has the distinction of being released too early and being over-matched by Quake and Duke Nukem. In a strange way this game was a way I could make "Dungeons and Dragons" cool to so many of my more "popular" friends back in mid-adolescence. Discovering Witch Haven 2 in Electronics Boutique at Baybrook Mall back in the day was like finding Conan the Barbarian in the discount rack at a local Stop'n Go. This Game was 2nd tier back in the day and remains the bastard-child-Doom-wannabe of the Dungeons and Dragons variety with a touch of Robert E. Howard and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The horned helmets, the bizarre "Old Hag" animated mini-bosses, the bloody and graphic traps you could fall in. Don't bother with the Bow and Arrow, go for the two-handed sword whenever you can, because the physics SUCK! The gory sound effects are some of my favs in any post-Doom FPS. This game is a relic, a time capsule into an age of desperate software developers trying to replicate the success of those guys in Texas....
Can't believe this finally got a steam release! I used to play these two games endlessly when I was younger. Nostalgia overload!
Way more difficult than the first game. I had the biggest difficulties in the first map and getting used to the new enemies, died a few times to find the needed power-ups. There are not many levels and this feels like an expansion pack to the first game with tougher enemies. Play only if you thought the first game was ok.
It’s ok, but it should’ve just been an expansion for the first game; same enemies, same weapons, same spells, same mechanics, same UI, same everything. Some enemies have been removed to make room for new ones, and aside from a new set of maps, the game also has a brand new soundtrack (Which is much worse than the previous one). Weapons can now be enchanted using special pools found throughout each map, adding increased damage and special effects, [strike]and Grondoval now drinks potions automatically upon taking lethal damage, which is a nice addition[/strike] (*This seems to be a BuildGDX feature). They’ve added gold and silver as item pickups, which originally gave me hope for some kind of in-game economy, but all they do is provide varying levels of XP. The indicators for poison and fire resistance have been removed, and although there is a text pop-up when active, this gets overwritten whenever you pick up an item, break a weapon, or use a long-lasting spell, so you won’t always be able to see it. Those are really all the changes there are. You start off with all of the upgrades you should’ve accrued by the end of the first game (No save-reading, cool as that would’ve been), and the minimal amount of character progression provided by XP gain only results in a minor health/damage boost. There is no tangible difference and you will likely hit max level before you’re even halfway through the story. Much like the first game, there are also five multiplayer maps which can be explored freely using BME’s Witchaven II Map Browser. The ISO file included in this release contains a promotional video for the cancelled game V For Victory 2: Pacific Campaign, which I can find literally no information about online, as well as a demo for Chronomaster. Once again, DOSBOX is installed twice, along with four seperate copies of the game, resulting in a program double the size of the first despite being significantly shorter and sharing many of the same assets. I also found this game to be much buggier than the first. It constantly drops frames, which often leads to inputs being eaten, and it crashed to desktop after almost every level transition. Some maps use a new kind of reflective water texture, which is a mirrored representation of everything on the screen including text overlays, and map thirteen in particular seems super broken, with sprites/textures getting more and more corrupt over time and bits of geometry randomly appearing within themselves like a non-euclidian nightmare. The final cutscene was also extremely choppy and seemed to be playing at half of the intended speed. That said, none of these issues are present when using BuildGDX, which brings me to my next point; This is NOT a source port. Like the first game, it runs in DOSBOX with an optional codebase enhancement and modern amenities. You can use the files included to run the game via BuildGDX, however there is no JF port for this entry to the series. I didn’t see the transparent surface issue that the first game had using this port, but my testing was minimal, so it may still be present. As pointed out in the discussions tab, it also does not seem to support text chat, which means that certain cheats are unavailable. Like the first game, you’ll need to extract the SMK files from the ISO if you want cutscenes, and save files will be incompatible between the two versions as BuildGDX uses the .sav format rather than the .dat/.map combination that the base game uses. I would recommend playing this way in order to avoid the aforementioned bugs.
