There are two games released on STEAM at the same date of 3 September 2018, yet different developers/publishers - do they know eachother??? 1. Witch Hunt 2. Witch The Bloodlines HUGE similarities between both titles, yet providing almost the exact same content, but each have a few extra features. "Witch The Bloodlines" approaches the player in a funny way, you will laugh your ass off how funny things get presented. Compared to "Witch Hunt", which is more focussed on making it all scary and serious. "Witch The Bloodlines" offers a lot of entities who like to see you dead. A huge map to explore, yet no map to see where you are, so finding your way is kinda hard, unless your memory is top notch. You can save at any time at a tombstone. The attacking animation of the entity gives you time to step back and be unharmed, this is an exploit which gives this game the YOLO-effect. But you can have a horse to ride on it which doesn't take stamina as an obstacle, which you would if you were on foot. Compared to "Witch Hunt" which does have a map (you have to find it first), takes things a bit more seriously. It even offers a skill system and for each kill you gain mana and with mana, you can save your progress at saving points and use focus to see through the eyes of your target. You can encounter a ghost that show you the way to a book, which gives you a perk which becomes permanent if you saved your progress. But the extra feature which I love about this game is, that the jumpscares are not timed. Locations where entities could be are not preset. You cannot anticipate the next jumpscare. Especially not in the beginning, you will learn about certain entities, what their behaviour is but most cannot be learned. Both games start in a town, there is merchant to buy bullets and stuff from the loot you have collected during your travels. If you value my opinion, then take my advice: Look into "Witch Hunt" as well and ask yourself this question: What do I really want? https://store.steampowered.com/app/661790/Witch_Hunt/ Like, do you enjoy jumpscares? Go for "Witch Hunt" but do you like to play a game that is less serious? Then go for "Witch The Bloodlines" - both games pack the same goals but each offers some extra features on top of the similarities. See "Witch The Bloodlines" as a LITE version of "Witch Hunt", for all ages, then "Witch Hunt" I would stick an at least 16+ label on it. I bought "Witch The Bloodlines" on the Halloween Sale for 4,99 - this price should be default and if it then falls into a discount (whatever it is, 10% - 25% - 50% -90%) you should consider it. It's not a bad game, it's just a funny game that tries to be scary. The only moment I jumped off my chair was the intro. * Lagg? Run the game 1st time, exit the game, run it again. Problem solved. Probably a Windows 10 thing, like I am using Windows 10 since a few months now and I have noticed that this happens a lot with recent games these days. And you could consider disabling the blurr effect. ** I only compare games when they are extremely alike... Otherwise I test games souly on their own strength
Pretty Hilariously Bad
I certainly didn't expect a whole lot coming into Witch: The Bloodlines, but I at least expected to be able to control my cursor in the main menu, and especially be able to control my cursor in-game without shutting the graphics off (or what there was of them), which just goes to show how poorly optimized WTB is. I don't really know where to start, the game chose to start with a jumpscare, a bold move in the least, too bad that was the only emotional reaction the game could manage to invoke in me.
What Am I Doing?
The question I repeatedly asked myself, was what am I doing? Where am I going? What am I shooting at? Where do I start this review? There's so little substance in WTB but so many issues the saturation is off the charts. So let's just list every issue I ran into in a shotgun fashion... The entire gameplay can be summed up like this: Run in a straight line through an empty and barren forest, if you hear an anime battle stinger sound effect (like when they zoom in on the eyes), or a bat screech, something spawned nearby. Proceed to walk in circles to indefinitely evade any enemy's attack, while carefully placing your 3 shots between your muzzle-loaded pistol and your double-barrel shotgun. Despite the lack of any sort of aimer or reticle, do not miss these shots because reloading will take 3/4th of the battle itself, and once you start to reload you can't stop. The witch fights don't make any sense, I still can't tell if it's supposed to be a cinematic encounter with them teleporting in and out, or if they just despawn themselves half the time, because whether or not I can kill the witch seems to be entirely random. I get to the end of a path, it seems like an arena for a mini-boss or something, a witch spawns and despawns, and then what? Did I accomplish something? Did I progress? Does the dev know what progress is? So many questions and I don't care enough to pursue any of them. Animals spawn 10 feet in the air nearby and fall to the ground before running at you, which by the way is slow enough that you can out-walk any of them. If you shoot one and it seems to have disappeared, just look 10 feet in front of it: they typically teleport a handful of yards before dying. Then skin them fast because their corpses despawn in about 10 seconds. Wtf is up with skinning everything, anyway? I can't think of a more uncreative way to add a loot system to your game: just rip the skin off the frog and sell it, hell you can skin the witches too! It's like the dev was a 12 year old who just played Red Dead Redemption and liked the hunting/skinning mechanic too much.
Nothing 'Works'
As mentioned earlier, following paths lead to nothing, there's about 3 or so of them that head to seemingly-important locations but there's no way to tell if you did something. There will be chests placed in locations where you'd typically find treasure or loot in a game, but you can't interact with them. Sometimes you can shoot them and they'll open, sometimes not even that, but you can't fool me, I can see through most of the unfinished model so I know they're all empty anyway. Why doesn't the axe break them open? Oh, and the wolf howling has no relation to getting attacked or not. In fact, none of the 'atmospheric' sound bits have any relation to gameplay except the battle stinger sound and the bat sound (which is a witch). And if the pause menu doesn't let you "Continue" your game, you just have to hit ESC to close it and continue that way, about half the time I spent in the game the pause menu grayed-out the Continue option. Also if you open the pause menu in a dialog you're cursor will vanish, just close and re-open the dialog. Did I mention you have to buy Fast Travel from the "store" before you can hop around the convoluted map? In a game where you have to walk around a huge empty forest searching for something you don't know? Because that's a thing. Also the english translation is god awful, even translating it in google translator would have produced better results. The trees are probably the worst asset store asset I've ever seen in my life, I hope for the dev's sake they were free. The construction of them is so mind-blowingly incorrect that I nearly threw up. But they're entire lack of idle animations really matches well with the completely barren home town, every house entirely devoid of any furniture or even a rug (it's like the dev didn't think we could look through the windows or something). The trees are also placed to stick directly straight out of the ground no matter the terrain, thus a small bump in the ground can tip a tree to insane angles. One particular tree I found was almost 90 degrees sticking straight out the side of a mountain.
Please Kill Me
About half an hour into the game I realized I was untouched by enemies, yet wanted nothing more than to die. I fell off a watermill wheel and realized that fall damage was considerably harder-hitting than any of the enemies. Knowing this I glitched my way over the stone-ridden stairs to the top of the stone tower, and dove head first. I began flying, as I continued to push forward I could run on air and gain distance. Unfortunately falling 25x my height and slamming into the ground-however-had only caused 40 damage, despite a small ledge causing 30. I could tell because my health bar was now more full than before. Yes, your health bar fills up with red as you take damage... With this new discovery that I could walk on air, I managed to sprint toward small bumps in the forest floor-the very same ones that cause a zig-zag of crooked trees as far as the eye could see-and JUMP off of them, continuing to run and sort of "take off" like a plane. Some flights I managed to get some impressive distance and build up my height diagonally, but fortunately for me and anyone else playing this game, fall damage is calculated by time spent in air, not height, thus landing from a peaceful flight will insta kill you and free you from the clutches of WTB. You can also shoot the priest if you walk behind him, even though the dev clearly intended to lock the use of weapons in the church. No matter, he doesn't die of course, but it's certainly hilarious to see the uncolored normal maps of the default asset-store bullet hole pack that the dev bought for $1.99 tops. And while you're shooting the priest, take a look at the rest of the townsfolk in the church, sitting nearly-perfectly still, just as stagnant as the dev team's ambitions. Piece of hilarious garbage, at least it was a pretty funny experience. It could have been dreadful AND unfunny.
This game isn't worth $11.24 even on sale. This game is maybe worth about $1.99 I find the garphics to be a poor copy/pasta of pre-made assets, the sound track is mediocre at best. I find the level of gore done on the skinning of the bears to be in very poor taste. The weapon assets are all almost totally out of date. The pistol is pretty good, but the shotgun is using modern day pressed/stamped shotgun shells and that axe looks like a polished fire axe. I'm not even going to do a video video on the game, its just not worth the time.
Final Verdict: Guilty of being a bad FPS / horror adventure game
Whether rain or snow, this game is not very good. The background environments look good, but most assets look very rough around the edges, especially up close. The story line is almost non-existent and in any event is just texts blocks that are not well translated into English. The combat feels slow and clunky and just not very fun. I tried playing this game longer than 30 minutes, but I just can't, there's nothing interesting to continue playing. I'm more afraid of the bear than the witch that looks laughably bad instead of scary. I got this in a bundle, but I wouldn't have paid .99 cents for this game. Rate 4/10. I respect that a 1 man dev made this game, it's a nice start to a good game but it would need a major update to be recommendable at any price range.
The basic idea is interesting: a village get cursed by witches and you get hired to hunt them in the woods to end this madness. It's a simple shooter with some basic oldfashioned weapons and with exploring the area around a village. The main goal to defeat the main witch seems not reachable yet. The use of weapons feels clunky and slow but can upgraded later for faster reload at a salesman. With the winter update you can choose now betwen a rainy or a snowy look of the scenery. It's a nice looking indie game but i think there should be added more goals to keep the player motivated. The price is just to high so better only get when it's on sale.
Genre
Ein First Person Horror Shooter mit leichten Survival Elementen
Story

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow third group

Pros: - I... uhhh.... My computer didn't start on fire, I guess? - It's funny how poor this is. Cons: - The audio - The bad models - The story (Yo. Witches. They gots to die. Go. I dunno where.) - The fact that launching the first time launched with broken settings and had to be forced closed to edit the .ini file manually to function. - Dying the first time sent me straight back to the start. No indication is given to show saving, but you can save at crosses. - I found a random small fox, unloaded both barrels of a shotgun at point blank range, and it killed me in two hits. It looked undamaged. - Found a witch. Shot her once with a pistol. She vanished. - A zombie rushed me after dropping from the sky after spawning from nothing. I killed him after laughing at his audio sample that repeated every two seconds. It gave me the option to skin him. What? It gave me witch blood for doing so. Double what?! - The price of this game. Are you out of your mind? No.
