Oh yesyes! I really love how the background got fuller with each solved puzzle - tho I question the farmers abbility to remove stones and treetrunks! One not solveable nono tho. Guesswork ftw!
Great little Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons themed nonogram puzzle game. Watching your farm change in the background as you solve puzzles and progress time is a nice way to tie it all together. Superb on Deck!
Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons is a cozy, charming fusion of two genres that rarely intersect—the peaceful farming atmosphere of Marvelous’ long-running Story of Seasons series and the methodical logic-driven satisfaction of nonogram puzzle games. Developed by Score Studios LLC and published by Rainy Frog Co. Ltd., it embraces the strengths of both influences without forcing them together unnaturally. Rather than attempting to replicate farming mechanics or narrative progression, it instead celebrates the franchise’s identity through puzzle design, aesthetics, and thematic presentation. The result is a game that feels like a relaxed tribute—recognizable, comforting, and welcoming, especially for longtime fans of the series. At its core, Piczle Cross remains a traditional Picross-style puzzle experience, built around filling grids by reading numeric clues and gradually revealing pixel-art images. What elevates the formula, however, is how directly the puzzles connect to Story of Seasons. Each completed picture depicts items, crops, villagers, animals, tools, food, decor, and seasonal motifs pulled from throughout the franchise’s history. The familiarity doesn’t just provide nostalgia—it contextualizes the puzzles, giving each image a small emotional reward and a sense of place within the farming universe. Progression through puzzle sets feels like wandering through a farm town, meeting characters, collecting produce, discovering wild animals, and engaging with the daily life that defines these games. The puzzle design itself is polished, thoughtfully paced, and accessible to a wide skill range. Early grids ease newcomers into the genre, while later ones grow larger, more intricate, and more demanding in both logic and time investment. Score Studios understands the rhythm of a good nonogram—introducing patterns that encourage deduction rather than guesswork, maintaining clarity even in complex puzzles, and respecting the player’s intelligence without overwhelming them. Quality-of-life features such as adjustable controls, zoom options, input aids, mistake toggles, and tutorial guidance help ensure the experience remains smooth rather than frustrating. It succeeds as a puzzle game not just because it’s themed, but because the mechanics are fundamentally well executed. Presentation carries just as much weight as the puzzles themselves, and Piczle Cross embraces the inviting, pastel-bright aesthetic Story of Seasons fans expect. The UI is cheerful without feeling cluttered, and puzzle completion screens offer clean, nostalgic pixel art reminiscent of older handheld farming titles. The soundtrack is gentle, melodic, and fittingly rural—pleasant background music designed for long puzzle sessions without becoming repetitive or intrusive. Character art, dialogue snippets, and environmental menus help reinforce that sense of being in a small farming community, even though the gameplay never transitions into simulation. It feels cozy and intentional, rather than a reskinned puzzle game with a license slapped on top. The game also includes an in-game encyclopedia and collection system, offering context for every revealed puzzle image—descriptions, background history, franchise origins, and light trivia that feel like a digital museum of Story of Seasons culture. Fans of the series will enjoy spotting favorite characters or crops from various entries, while newcomers may discover why certain items or villagers are so beloved. It gives meaning to completion beyond checking boxes, turning progress into a curated celebration of franchise identity. Where Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons may fall short is in expectations surrounding genre blending. Players hoping for farming mechanics, relationship building, town management, or narrative arcs like those found in the main series may initially be surprised at how purely puzzle-driven the experience is. While the theming is strong, the game remains strictly a Picross title at heart. Some players may also find that spending many hours completing similar grid-based puzzles leads to fatigue, especially if played in long sessions. Content-wise, there is a lot to solve, but the gameplay loop doesn’t fundamentally evolve after the first few hours—the enjoyment depends on one’s love of nonograms. For fans of puzzle games, however, the focused design becomes a strength. There are no filler mechanics, no stressful time constraints, and no artificial difficulty spikes. The game encourages slow, meditative play—something that aligns perfectly with Story of Seasons’ spirit. It’s easy to pick up for a few puzzles at a time, and just as easy to become absorbed for an evening. The wide variety of themed puzzles, combined with thoughtful UX decisions, makes it suitable for both experienced Picross players and total beginners curious to try the genre. Ultimately, Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons succeeds because it understands what makes both genres appealing. It doesn’t dilute the relaxing, friendly warmth of Story of Seasons, nor does it compromise the logical elegance of a well-designed nonogram. Instead, it offers a peaceful celebration of farming-life nostalgia through methodical, satisfying puzzle-solving. For Story of Seasons fans, it’s a delightful companion piece—a chance to revisit the world from a different angle. For puzzle enthusiasts, it’s a polished, generous, and comforting entry in the Picross genre. And for anyone who values calm, thoughtful gaming experiences, it delivers exactly what it promises: a quiet joy worth savoring. Rating: 7/10
I like the cows
Oh my Harvest Goddess, this game needs a lot of processing power. Until recently, I had been using a more "general-purpose" laptop instead of one specifically with the processing and graphical capabilities for modern gaming, and I couldn't get this game to run on the old one. Now that I've upgraded, I can see why: instead of the comic or pixel aesthetic of Score Studios' other Nonogram games, this game has a full 3D, high-definition background, featuring a farm that grows and develops as you complete puzzles (corn and tomatoes for the Crops category, chicks and a horse for the Animals category, etc.), as well as cycles through the seasons every 30 puzzles solved (whether they're new completions or just beating your best time on an old one). Plus, there's an in-game almanac with profiles of characters across the series, and a music player! Truly, this is a love letter to Story of Seasons! ...But unfortunately, I think a lot of it is wasted effort. The puzzles aren't really organised, save for the easy 5x5 grids all on the first page and the ones featuring a grid 25 squares wide towards the back, so in addition to an awkward difficulty curve, trying to specifically focus on either the farm or the almanac profiles is impossible without a guide; that horse is from Puzzle #268 out of 270! The developing farm is certainly nice to look at, but looking is all you can do. And the actual gameplay of solving Nonograms is...just like their less graphically-intense Piczle Cross Adventure, albeit with a few more hint features that can be enabled or disabled without penalising achievement progress. If this was just a Nonogram game, I would not recommend it. However, the idea to cross things over with, and showcase a lot of excellent art from, a legendary farming simulation series is genuinely interesting, whether you're actually familiar with the series or just enjoy your puzzles having a central theme. So in the end, if you have a computer that can handle this game, it's worth checking out...though I encourage waiting for a Seasonal discount.
Classic nonogram puzzling is all I wanted from this and it's what I got. I will say, the game's a bit heavy on menu transitions, and that kinda bogs down your flow, but it's not game-hindering. I didn't quite understand the running calendar with farm and relationship progression, but it was there. No clue what it was for, but it sure was there. I just looked past it. +1 perfect games!
Very fun picross game, and the harvest moon framing is effective for adding fun and charm
play Picross, it's good for you
One of the better nonogram games found on steam. There are multiple tools to make things easier, but they are something you can turn off in settings. Making it easy to adjust to how you like to play.
