Witch of the Woods is a resource management game where you are trying to balance the ecosystem of the forest, while also battling the spreading corruption. Sounds like a great concept to me. You cast spells that change the population of different animals which influences the food chain, if one of the animals die you loose the game. There is just one little problem. I beat the game in 10 minutes and I was not even trying to do so. You should have seen the stare on my face. I am not trying to be a jerk here, but if your resource management game can be completed in 10 minutes by someone who never played the game - the decision making aspect of your game has failed. The game has 3 different modes such as story, standard and endless. Unfortunately, all of those modes kind of amount to the same thing because there is nothing to look forward to, not even miserable achievement for surviving. Maybe if they had a couple different maps with different seasons, that would be good. Perhaps new maps could add more animals. But as it stands Witch of the Woods has absolutely nothing to accomplish beyond the 5 - 20 minutes that it takes to beat it. I am not angry because I wasted money, I am angry because the developers wasted a good concept. Can we get an actual reason to keep playing the game?
Pros:
+ nice aesthetic + promising concept
Cons:
- completed in 10 minutes... - nothing to work toward - the decision making, should probably be more complex? Overall Thoughts: 4/10 Hey the concept is great and the gameplay has potential. At the very least we should get some achievements to grind the endless mode for a few hours. Ideally though, I would like to see 3 more maps for each season with a few new animals, then it might be a decent game. Like you got to give the player something to work toward, your decision making game needs to give some resistance. I beat it in 10 minutes, there is nothing to do here. Yea it looked pretty, not much of a decision making game though.
If the game shows some improvements, I will consider removing this review. game for 10 minutes
Simple game where a witch (or rather a druid?) cleanses corrupted shrines and animals. This is accomplished by manipulating the populations of the animals with spells, which are cast at uncorrupted shrines with ingredients left behind by the animals & plants themselves (antlers, feathers, berries, etc.). It can be completed in ~45m-2 hours depending on your strategy and knowhow with proportionate growth cycles and interconnected effects between those. A negative review on here claims to have beaten it in 10 minutes by accident, which no longer seems to be possible in the game's current state (the corruption mechanics and population depletion conditions can't be overcome that quickly as far as I can tell). Thematically pretty chill. Recommended if you want a simple strategic & druidic romp!
Before I played Witch of the Woods, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
I was looking for free to play games on Steam a while back when I found Witch Of The Woods. It looked quite cute and interesting, and I thought "It's a free game so what the heck? If I don't like it I never have to play it again". I downloaded it and played it for a video on my channel and had a lot of fun! I enjoyed how there was a bit of story in the beginning explaining why there was corruption in the forest and why cleansing it didn't always work immediately. The developers gave that part some thought for sure! But mostly this was not a story based game and was more about grinding for resources, which I didn't mind at all. I have not yet gone through the other modes, but I completed the main game in about an hour and a half. I would have completed it earlier but I didn't know the ending of the game was where it was and thought I had to get rid of all the corruption in the animals, which was completely on me for not reading the text enough.
Pros

Cute graphics and very calming music
Easy to understand, lack of instructions in later stages is not a problem
It's hella witchy, which makes me happy
Free to play!

Cons

Ending is not as clear as it could be, the path you take sort of blends in to the background
Animals randomly get corrupted without having used them for cleansing (this could just be a mechanic that I'm unfamiliar with and it could have a good reason behind it)
Unsure how much replay value it has
Overall I'd give this game an 8.5/10 because it's a really calming game with adorable graphics and soothing music, and it's quick to play through the main game if your looking for something to pass the time for an hour or so. The cons of the game don't really affect the gameplay at all, and again, it's free to lay so if you only play through it once then that's okay!!
