This is the first part of the VN only. Meaning that there’s “no conclusion” to this story yet. It starts a bit slow to be honest. After a while you learn more about the characters and the story itself. It’s a kinetic visual novel, in other words, there’s no choices and you only read. I liked the concept, it was quite interesting even if it’s somewhat cliche. The art style is simple, which is okay because the story is good. BGM was good too, sometimes kinda repetitive. My only complain is about the narration: mostly it’s narrated from the MC’s point of view, but it suddenly changes to another person. I got confused sometimes, but I noticed that changed a bit after 3 or 4 chapters, and it got easier to identify who’s saying what. 6/10, hopefully the developers will release the next parts on Steam as well!
I am only part-way through the story, will update when I have finished, but so far: The translation from Japanese (via a Kickstarter project) has gone very well, with the storyline being fantastic, very absorbing, and lengthy (the prologue took me 2 hours to read). The story makes uses of screen shaking, and background noises to help bring the atmosphere across. The storyline progresses by you pressing the return key for the sentence to keep it at your own pace of reading, or you can use the auto-read function, which you can set at differing speeds. Alternatively, pressing 'Ctrl' will fast-forward the text. The background music changes depending on the area / scene, and really adds to the atmosphere. There are several different generic music pieces, as well as the special pieces for during fights, etc. The starting piece played during the introduction is brilliant. The background graphics are all done as impressionist oil paintings, with the main characters depicted as normal sharp cartoon anime images. The text is a largish font, white with a black border, so is very legible on the dark and light backgrounds. There are 100 save spots, so plenty. However, the story will only progress if it is the currently active window, so you cannot watch this in one window, and do something else in another window at the same time.
This is the first part of a kinetic novel by the doujin group Migiha. It was originally released in 2010, and they have continuations and other games by now as seen in their website. As a kinetic novel, it don't have choices (different from the sister genre visual novel). Character art and story were done by Shori (his pixiv). The script (code side and timings for every line, screen, image, sound) was writed originally in NScripter engine by Jeffrey Manson. While not open-sourced, royalty-free commercial use of NScripter is permitted and it's the same engine used by Tsukihime. Almost all songs were composed by Tokibu. As it should be obvious by the fanart in Shori pixiv and Jeffrey's handle in twitter as a melty blood player, they are both typemoon fans, and Wish is strongly influenced by tsukihime in artstyle, tropes and engine used originally. But the writing style and story itself can't be taked as derivated work from typemoon at all. Backed by a Kickstarter, Culture Select ported it to Unity engine, translated for both english and spanish and released it on Steam. While some things ended up slower (like the title screen menu), they have done a very nice job at translation and quality check. I didn't see a single typo from beggining to end. It's important to notice how crucial this change in engine is, as NScripter is only compatible with Windows. As said before, art style of Shoori is strongly influenced by typemoon, is special Takeuchi older style. The background images beeing free sourced photos with filters to give a drawing/painting feel further reinforce the "tsukihime-roots" impression. But the writing style is nothing like Kinoku Nasu. Intead of going for a more poetic and complex approach, the impression is that it overprioritize beeing direct, clean and consistent. The structure is not unlike "to Heart". Specially in the first parts of the game, the scripting (timing of lines, images, sounds and effects likes screenshakes) in simply impecable, making it full obvious how much care there was for every single beat. As a consequence, the bigger parts (scenes, sequences, acts) flows very naturally. Tokibu compostions (the majority beeing simple but beautifull piano songs in pentatonic) goes very well with both contemplative and action scenes. Last things to be said: this is the 1st part of the history, so don't expect it to be conclusive. If you are ok with this, i would recomend it.
A runemaster named Mutsuki Kurono along with her aide, Rinna exterminate monsters at the shrine. Runecraft must be kept a secret, so not many people are aware of it. Prana is life energy that they need to use for their supernatural powers. Tenka tries to learn runecraft, but he fails. Something strange happens to him which causes Mutsuki to make an important decision that will change his life. I heard the art style in Wish is a tribute to Type Moon, but the story is original. The art style may or may not fit your standards. I do like it, though. The text is on the background images, so it can be a problem for those who aren’t used to reading it this way. The auto-feature helped me focus better. The oil based paintings for backgrounds is nice. There are some generic music pieces especially in the fight scenes; however, it still suited the atmosphere. Apparently, the visual novel has more parts to the title, so hopefully we’ll be able to see the rest of them available. Edit: I noticed there was some grammar issues, but perhaps this can be fixed, too. Great kinetic visual novel! Recommended!
This is not a video game. It is a long novel. it took me seven hours to get through the prologue. The save points are useless because there are not enough of them. If you close the app, you will lose several hours of hitting "enter" at every sentence in order to advance the story. They should have just released this as a kindle book rather than con you into paying for it as a video game. There is NO game element, I repeat, NO game. It is just a long long long story. I made the mistake of paying for this long poorly executed novel. Don't be fooled by the description or other reviews, save yourself.
I love the story and the artwork :)
A nice Visual Novel game. very long story. nice scenes. graphic is alright. price is in offer alright. all achievements work.
Poor artwork, sprites have few poses, look unfinished and unpolished, and no CGs. There are some gems along the story, but overall, the plot is convoluted, repetitive, slow, and unfinished. Music and sound effects are decent, but no voice acting. Story/auto mode does not progress if the game loses focus, that is a huge drawback in my books. Too expensive for what it offers. 5/10
Interesting story, that has a strange engine choice for a visual novel that brings down the experience. Others have mentioned the story which was interesting, but the strange choice here was they used the Unity engine for a visual novel instead of one of the much better established VN engines like Ren'Py, and as a result, the game is broken into chapters, and some are super long. You can't save mid chapter, and if you leave you have to start over. As a result, the experience suffers, and as a result, I can't comfortably recommend this title. If you don't mind being stuck on one scenario for what feels like hours, go for it. If this were in a better engine, I would recommend.
