Could be a decent game. The combat is absolutely awful. NPC's will fly off the screen and you can never progress; your only choice is to restart or forfeit.
I don't have the patience to write a full review right now. I'll just say: Don't give up because of the very slow first half of the game. I almost did - the story truly takes off and expands, but later than in the author's previous games. It's worth it!
More hype then game
This game is slow and overrated. Do yourself a favor and do a hard pass.
Another fantastic game from Droid where the story will draw you in and you will fall in love with the characters.
Where do we land on this one? Beautiful L.I.s and an intriguing story. Nothing too unique narratively speaking, but it hooks you a little. A roster of LI which catch the eye and I think personally, there is no huge quality shifts.... the spectrum is tight, all fairly well high quality, in looks and their characters. The problem is, that it not only rather grindy, with some things not being very clear.. in fact, I went something close to an in game month, between scene triggers.... and I do NOT think that was SUPPOSED to happen... I just fluked missing triggers. Some times it just seems like repetitive encounters, with the default choicest action to be just 'sleeping' until the next day. But the BIGGEST problem with this game is one which MOST in the genre seem to suffer from these days, as graphics and UI and narrative quality have improved, and the games seem to get beyond what they at core, are... is the adult scenes are mediocre AT BEST. A lot of the developers making these, like to say it is not that kind of game, when the weakest part of their game is the sex scenes. To which I say NONSENSE. It is a AVN. The A bit is the MOST important. There's a myriad of games using the VN format, which are made major established, professional studios with decades in the industry... if I want a VN, that is where I will go. Some also then say NO, that is wrong, that is NOT what an AVN is. Again, I say NONSENSE... plain wrong. Adult in this context DOES NOT mean Adult themes. I can name a slew of games both VN format and other, which deal with everything from r*pe, murder, and child s*xual abuse, through to severe mental illness and suicide, right the way through to war, including themes of war crimes, and genocide, which DO NOT have tags like NSFW, Adult, etc... because they do NOT have graphic sexual content. In this scenario, ADULT as in Adult Visual Novel... means Adult in the same way as Adult Film, or Adult Bookstore. Signifies explicit sexual content. In many jurisdictions, that is a LEGAL definition, and such tags and labels are MANDATED MANDATORY by LAW if the product is retailed as publicly available purchaseable game. This game is better than many, in not forgetting it is a AVN, for sure. But the adult content is significantly limited compared to other games, the best of the genre, with similar play times. In both quantity AND quality, the latter being a shame in particular because this game is rather visually high quality mostly otherwise. I think most developers making these games need to learn how to do sex scenes. Nothing wrong with sitting down and watching pornographic films and taking notes, I say. Educate themselves. When they see the difference between some cringy mononym directors 80s video tape porn shot in a carpet walled garage under an overpass in some industrial park, with makeshift lighting and personal notation recorder as the only wound equipment.... verses the likes of Private studios, then perhaps that would be useful moving forwards with their AVNs. Not just this Dev, any and all making such. You sexual content should look 'shot' on 70mm film, by ... I do not know... depending on tone of the game, I suppose.... an Andrew Blake, or Phillip Mond.... or perhaps Michael Ninn or Mario Salieri.... it should be the MOST realised element of the game, if you game is an *A* VN. Should be blocked, angled, framed, lit, phased, and controlled like you are trying for a career with Adam and Eve. The perspective, the focus, transitions within the scene... these should be the strongest part of such games. It is NOT here. Also, the space combat mini games are very very... mediocre.. and not enjoyable at all either, which also then detracts from the game, because one can perhaps tolerate that kind of thing, a common issue in the genre, if the slog gets you to scintilating and glorious sex scenes that genre leading... which in this case they are not. THAT said.... I still think this is MUCH better some of the garbage that seems to be far more popular... and it was.. OK... I will give this one.. a VERY SOFT thumbs up... lets say two and three quarters stars, perhaps... 5.75 out of 10?
It is pretty good. It has a story. I like the setting and world-building. I set the game play to story mode because the game play is lame and I'm really only interested in the story anyway. Seems a bit grindy. I'm sure I'd hate it that much more if I had to grind through the mini-games as well. You still have to play them, but story mode is super easy as advertised. There are 'adult' scenes. The ones I've unlocked were not to my tastes and fortunately easily avoided or skipped through. In fact they all seem to be optional, so well done for that.
The story so far has some twists esp. w/ the unknown deity in your dreams. Different combat mechanics and exp. gains.
Droid games have plots and action that puts them at the top of my list of good games. These games also have some romance and relationship building which is more important than just sex scenes that mean nothing. A few girls that want a quick hookup is believable but every girl yo meet acting that way just not real. It ruins immersion and turns it into a joke.
My game time is high because I got better at understanding the game and re-started a couple times. You will want a mouse for this game because of the space combat even though it is a Visual Novel.(AVN). A strange technical quirk (or maybe just my computer?) the game ALWAYS starts behind the Steam page, meaning I have to minimize both and then re-open them in the correct order to see things. No big deal but strange. Anyway, 'Wings of Empire" basically sets you in an Alternate History where the Roman Empire never fell and continued 700 years past NOW, with a "space opera" feel. You play as an experienced Roman soldier whose leg was blown off in combat, so you and your bionic leg sign up for the Navy as a fighter pilot. There's plenty of Adult content but not constant like some games AND you can choose whether to do a "harem" route or "monogamous" route by clicking a toggle with each woman you meet. Not all of them are available however. This game is in Early Access BUT includes a good amount of content already. Four Acts covering 75 "days" The plot is interesting and fun but re-play value is a matter of opinion. If YOU consider "re-play" value as "I can start a new game and discover new plots, stories etc" you would be disappointed in WoE. IF YOU consider re-play value as " This game I enjoy re -playing because it's so GOOD even though I know what happens, this game is a "must have". The developer plans a three part story with each being as long as this one. WELL WORTH THE MONEY .
