I've bought this game for about 89 cents, wanted to like it, played it and felt ripped off. The game overall has some pretty interesting ideas and an art style remniscent of old browser games, that certainly got my attention at firtst and made me think that this could be possibly a hidden gem, although not much later I've discovered the game was poorly designed, with a story that is sometimes funny but leaves the player with no direction to follow right from the beginning and a combat with so little depth that only after 5 minutes of fighting I've become bored. The experimental dialogue system this game brings left me really interested, but I couldn't say it was used up to its true potential, it didn't really felt much like a conversation without being able to see what my character was saying when i chose his response stances. Overall, I cannot recommend this game to anyone, but I really would like to see these ideas be better used in some other game with a deeper and more balanced combat system, with a longer and more serious story that does not leave the player aimless through the map, with equippable items that change your character appearance and with an enhanced version of this dialogue system.
I really wanted to like this game but it's horribly subpar, even for a "retro styled" title. Achievement's don't work, the story fails to be funny and the fighting system is unsatisfactory. I'm half way through and decided not to torture myself with it anymore.
It's a walk & talk game with two mini-games - persuasion and combat. Both are simplistic and mostly an annoyance. This leaves talking, which is hard to get right. I really didn't care for the dialogue so i wouldn't recommend it. Also the resolution settings are so badly broken that i had to manually edit them to even be able to play the game.
So I will start off by saying that while I do recommend this game, I don't recommend it at full cost. I know the developer worked hard, but it's just not worth the $6.00 for full price. I got it for less then a dollar, and I feel maybe $1 or $2 is worth it. That being said, what is it exactly? It's a very odd game. The best way to describe it is as a beat 'em up adventure game, where you have a choice between beating people up, or actually resolving problems peacefully. Peaceful resolutions are achieved through a surprisingly deep conversation system, where you need to pick your tone and attitude to give them a high opinion of you and convince them to listen to you. Alternatively, you can just attack them, using your three moves; a punch, a kick, and a shoulder charge. And it's not limited either. While you can only engage in deep conversation with certain NPCs, and have regular conversations with everyone else, you can litterally beat the crap out of every NPC in the game. There is a loot system in the game, as you gain items from clearing your objectives. You end up having three stats; attack, defense, and speed, and the items will vary the values in different ways. Although, if you're not planning on being in combat all the time, it's usually a good idea to keep your speed up while walking around, and then if the item you want to use for combat lowers the speed, put it on before the fight. If your speed is low you will be very very slow at walking around. The writing in the game is great, as its a parody of professional fighting/wrestling, considering your main character is a former world champion, who gets the equivelant of the Montreal Screwjob, and then takes off for at least a year. Upon coming back he decides to reconnect with his old rivals, who have taken up various odd jobs around the city. You need to deal with all of them and then you end up with the, uh, very bizarre finale. It took me two hours to get through the game, but I only got 17 achievements since most of them are attacked to different paths and choices. There are also four difficulty settings, from Easy to Insane, and I played on Normal. These difficulties are just for bragging since they have no associated achievements. There is also apparently modding capability, but no one has really bothered with it as of yet. Overall, it's not a bad game. It's funny, and a unique concept. As said before I can't recommend it at full cost but on sale you will definetly get your worth out of this 'game of the hour'.
Amusing trailer suckered me in, and the game is very silly, but there's not really anything to it. Good if you want a few silly jokes and hitting things for no reason with a cute theme, I guess. But I couldn't recommend spending money on it.
I have been eyeing this game for a while before I finally bought it on sale. It was definitely worth it at the lowered price. As for the standard price, there are some things that give me pause... but honestly, I spent far more money on games I didn't enjoy nearly as much. People complain about the length, and it's true that the game is quite short and simple. It also suffers from some bugs, but being short and simple means they really don't hurt as much as they would in a bigger, more complicated game. The story feels complete and the gameplay is pretty fun. Most importantly, and this is admittedly an extremely subjective point, it is utterly hilarious. I've been chuckling all the way through it. I'm not sure what to compare its sense of humour to, exactly; maybe some of the better 90s American satirical cartoons? But I'm far from an expert on those. Anyway, if you were on the fence like I was, I strongly recommend giving it a try. Also try it if you like the idea of bringing gratuitous violence and/or compassion to silly people in ridiculous outfits.
An absolutely silly adventure. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. Now it won't be everyone's fighter in the ring but for those that it resonates with, you are in for a treat! Now go forth and fight~!
