Experienced on Windows Mixed Reality. Did not work on Oculus Rift
This game is just bad. I don't know what the positive reviewers were smoking. I get that this is a free game. And I think it's good to go easier on free games. But this game has no redeeming qualities. It's super short as well. It's a stand still wave shooter with bad 3D where you teleport to different spots after killing all the enemies. The scales are off, the graphics and textures are ugly. The gameplay is boring and repetitive. It just isn't any fun. Time is money. Do I recommend anybody spend any time downloading and playing this? No! It's a bad, bad game. You'd have more fun staring at the ceiling ... or watching broadcast TV (kids ask your parents what that means). They should have to pay you to play this game, that's how bad it is. Rate 3/10. The 3 is because it's free, I would have given a 2 if they had charged any money for this.

Wild West VR is a free VR first person shooter game in the Wild West setting. It worked on my system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You teleport your play space to the next fixed point on the map when the wave is finished. You have two Six shooters and can reload by pressing the touchpad. Try it, you might like it. Super short, 15 minutes of gameplay, Fun enough. Minimalistic level design, which is not bad at all. Hard to die, unless you got hidden enemies like i did. On the other hand enemies die from one bullet. Bonus: you got to use your Colts gangster style :)

the game is very short. Only 3 levels or phases. It is basically the same map with different enemy spawning locations.
only one type of enemy behavior. They all run out and start shooting at you.
the guns are basic but they work fine. They fire tracing bullets and they are spam-friendly.
The UI isn't very good. The ammo counts are always shown next to the gun at the side. You can't read them if you hold your guns too close together. (like what the person did in the trailer) The health count doesn't tell you that it is a health count. It just says "100" and it is off to the top-left of my field of vision.
The biggest issue to me to probably the scale. The enemies seem to be at the same scale as the player, but the buildings look way too small. The game also put me very high off the ground as though I am 10 feet high.
Judging by the trailer and some of the game design decisions (forcing player to input a nickname and having a "next" menu between plays), it seems like the game originally had a bigger scope. The overall experience is "meh" but the game is free and the download size is pretty small anyways.
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There are no available servers and no player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
This Unity asset flip was an attempt from a developer to rip off a bunch of Western assets from the Unity Asset Store and get your money for them... a primitive minimum viable product, it failed before the developer could staple a cash shop on it. So, Wild West VR is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This is "free" enough (for now), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 8 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
