Updated Review: When it released i was okay with the game because the developers promissed to deliver more content and improve the game. There were a few small updates but then ...there was silence since then! On a deep sale it might still be worth it IF you are looking specificaly for whitewater stuff and dont care too much about realism. But knowing there mostlikely wont come any new content, new features or improvements i personaly regret my purchase at 25% off! (I do also own KayakVR with a whitewater map - so keep that in mind). ------------------------------------------ Original Review: Whitewater VR is a well put together VR Kayaking Game that is just fun to play. But it is also very different from Kayak VR which is for the most part a good thing because they have a different focus and therefore complement each other very well! What i do specialy like is that the graphics are not just built to look good on a flatscreen (and screenshots) but actualy with VR in mind - meaning there is less noise, artefacting and jitter in the distance without looking bad than in other games .. like Kayak VR :-) Positiv: - Graphics are built with VR in mind - resulting in an overall cleaner image - "enough" options to tweak the game - good performance - good DLSS implementation (but put it on Quality because Ultra looks worse) - fun Waterphysics - fun gameplay Negative - Maps are quiet short compared to Kayak VR - wish there were more Track variations for each map - Physics feel very arcady - a bit more simlike would be nice What i would like to see improved/added - More graphic options (Shadows, View Distance, etc. etc. - more control about prefered visuals) - Physics rework or a simlike physics option/mode - More map variations (different "tracks" for each map or a longer version) - More maps -added Multiplayer Overall a solid and fun VR game well worth its price on sale!
damn, this is awesome!

Beautiful game, second in graphics only to Kayak Mirage. Much for fun though due to the thrilling gameplay. There were times when I legit thought I was going to get wet! Played through all the maps on Free Play. Will jump back in later to do the other modes. Def recommend. With a 5090 and Meganex 8K this looked incredible

我通关了还能赶上退款,短的离谱。 画面太老了 明显的纱窗和糊,但是体验还可以
The graphics are beautiful but the jank is mad. I would hit the banks at low speed, fly into the air, spinning madly, and then land 30m away. The physics feel totally unrealistic. Also sitting in a normal office chair and even with the max height adjustment of 80cm, I am still basically sitting on the floor of the kayak, far too low. I saw another review saying turn off quest lying down mode so I will try that. But I am almost afraid of playing the game again in case I go flying over the forest at ridiculous heights just for bumping into a rock.
This game has potential, but is ultimately disappointing if you have real whitewater kayaking experience. The environments look good, the water flows down its course believably, BUT the way the paddle interacts with the water is extremely poorly modeled and immersion breaking. For example, if you are moving down the river at a medium speed, and the current is going faster than you, planting your paddle should speed you up to match the current, but instead it slows you down like the water isn't flowing at all. There are a lot of turning moves in real life that are just planting your paddle in the current, and you often get the exact opposite result in this game than you would in reality, bad enough that if you develop muscle memory from this game you'll probably end up drowning. This kayaking game is like the illegitimate butt-baby of tank sim physics and snowboarding game physics that got sold to the Steam carnival for $20.
A superb simulation of whitewater kayaking, despite a bit of the physics jank that some reviewers describe. The river dynamics are the best I've seen in anything, with very natural feeling currents and eddies. If you have a little bit of kayaking experience, you can skip the tutorial because for the most part your muscle memory will map onto this game one for one. The performance is good on my modest rig running the Quest 2 through Steam Link. As with VR titles made by a single dev, you can't expect much longevity. Ideally I would have preferred much longer stages divided into sections with breathers between them. As it is, you can play the whole game in well under an hour. Its still worth it for the (as of writing this) definitive VR whitewater kayaking game.
