As an avid player of survival/quest type games, this game had promise. I have played through 95% of the content available in early access, which took less than 10 hours, and that is slow poking it. I dont rush games. PROS: pretty island, nicely made. interesting ruins and landscaping. Unfortunately, that is about it, with the lack of anything substantial, the game is just flat. The tool selection is pathetic, with a pick doing everything. The building is pretty much nothing besides a couple of walls and a couple of crop plots. And you can not even build a usuable house where you want as you need the CO2 from the crashed spaceship, unless you want to live on potions and berries. Give us a CO2 generator to build that we can put in a house. The puzzles when you can actually find them are so easy, it feels like you are just going through the motions. The treasure chests have nothing in them besides things you can harvest freely, so not worth any effort except for the xp points to use on skill unlocks. The map is useless with no actual markings on it. The taming is pathetic with throwing a couple of food items on the ground and there you go. Then the tame is useless and you just leave it at your house. So final verdict, in my opinion, is to wait to see if they can sort themselves out and put some actual content into the game with updates. I had high hopes and really enjoyed the demo, but I am dissappointed in the early access.
Beyond undercooked. Not viable for going on sale at all. Puzzles don't complete when solved. Combat does not exist, but annoying creatures still peck at you. Taming system does absolutely nothing, except add a creature that gets in your way when you're trying to click something else. Half the mechanics seem intentionally designed to slow the game down: a sprint function that could drain stamina 10% as fast and still be incredibly annoying; watering can that takes an hour to refill in a game supposedly about plants; farmable plant timer so slow that it's always better to go get wild plants instead; every action, like eating, taking multiple seconds and disabling other commands. Actual rip. Do not buy before 2027.
The game is fun with puzzles and skill trees, and the same nemesis of inventory management, but I will not recommend a game with puzzle pieces stuck in places that takes more than one try to get. If someone has a direction they want to go in, and the game makes people fall short of the goal, taking MANY attempts to land PERFECTLY on a spot. (a stupid ledge: of all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game bosses you can have in a game, you picked the LANDSCAPE, a CHEAP COP OUT.) -- The goal is this game is supposed to be a fun game. Grow up. Stop with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ parcour ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Play spiderman if you want that crap. Double jump skill later? Just as lame, no hint you have to sprint to make any real strides; which to me is a total game mistake: What MORONIC CHARACTER is going to casually walk off a ledge without an attempt to run with the jetpack by DEFAULT?? If someone is hitting space to jump, assume they're accellerating as they jump without making people deform their fingers all over a LESS THAN INTUITIVE KEYBOARD LAYOUT! WHY DO YOU RE-INVENT JUMPING MECHANICS TO BE A FAILURE?? THIS 'JETPACKED' ALIEN IS A LAUGHING STOCK!!! Re: Developer Response: An easier mode to help people jump further would be nice, but what is really brutal is that none of the materials are refunded when the object is destroyed. Especially a fully stocked campfire you realized is in a bad spot. It's bad enough when some of the resource you gather drops through the floor, or slips behind the surface of a piece of landscape or woodwork. I DID manage to get the figurehead with the use of a staircase, which is by NO means intuitive for how to make a staircase from just a mid-height unclimbable piece of staircase; I get it, you need two stair pieces to make a floor level, that's pretty much game metric standard, so good on that one. The ability to switch what the mouse wheel changes would be great, I mess with my tools more often than my potions, but making sure that they are separated instead of rotating both would be great. Thanks for the review of my review.
The only thing I can say is it's not ready for EA. Just too much grind and no substance right now.
I truly had hopes for this game. The fact that you must work from your crashed ship to receive adequate CO2 makes exploring more challenging that expected. Before you even get to where you need to go, you use most of your potions or berries and hope that there will be more wherever you are going. There was a puzzle that had you roll a boulder to a pit to open the map, only it crosses a path with a plant that consistently kills me. We need another way besides a fire to hold your CO2 or make it so you can breathe with a helmet. Storage is a joke.
It's just more "vapid survival sandbox mediocrity". "Open world" with puzzle-gate-keeping, just not really any fun. If you've played <insert open world survival game here> you've played this game. UI is ok, tool and inventory management are awkward. Runs on Linux.
Very, very early access. The concept seems fun, but the game does not seem to be ready for early access.
абсолютная скука и уныние
So they did just announce a rework, and I'll keep this in mind and amend this review when I play it again. As it stands, pre-rework, it almost plays like a proof of concept? Cons: * There are very few plants * You don't scan anything save for the edible plants and the animals? But what's the point of scanning the animals? * There isn't much of a guide or tutorial so I can see people getting lost very easily * I understand this is an alien, but most sentient creatures would go crazy without someone to talk to. So having a ship computer to chat with would be nice? * Game occasionally glitches out and you hear your alien heavy breathing until you reset..... ew * This is a big one for me.....so all caps..... WHY IS WATERING AND GATHERING WATER LINKED TO YOUR ENERGY? You may as well skip the gardening because your energy is gone.... * Most survival games do allow for some crafting....Oh, there is crafting? Where? I played for a couple of hours and couldn't craft or build a house or anything. Am I asking too much? Maybe.... But I was hoping for a little scientific alien game. * Puzzles strike me as a bit Zelda-ish, which is fine but they feel out of place? Maybe the game should have been called "Aztec puzzles in space" or something? >.< Pros: * The puzzles aren't horrible. If you can see past them being out of place, they're fine. * The scenery is colorful and kinda pretty. Just a bit barren Again. Once they rework it, I'll play it again and amend the review.
Played the demo, bought the EA game, based on this being a survival game. It is possibly in the loosest of terms. More exploration and puzzler that Survival. Did not enjoy the EA release at all. Came back to it after the Major update. Now it is worse, the graphics are...Chalky for lack of a better term. Game opening is now forced and resources are very limited. Now areas are gated and if you do not do things as the specifically tell you then you will end up without the resources to advance and I guess wait for them to regrow, however long that will take, I did not wait. I hate the inventory/hand management but would live with it if there was enough of a game to interest me. As it stands I will wait a few months to see if it progresses more to my taste. I HATE leaving a negative review on an Early access game but I am not seeing this game progress. And being labled as a survival crafting game is very misleading.
