Renders are good and it has a gallery. No animations. You have no choices beyond who to visit after you clear the introduction. A lot of linear dialog leaving you with at most five short rounds of ten to twenty minute sessions to clear the entire game. It is like they thought they wanted to make an AVN but decided dealing with branching story lines was too much work and gave up. In the end it feels overpriced for the content.
I bought and completed Whispers of an Elven Captor (the previous game from this developer) a while ago, and rather liked it. It was a good, short game. So I had high hopes for this being a bigger, better game. Unfortunately only the bigger part turned out to be true. There was some problems with the previous game, but given the shortness of that game, and how good the renders were, they didn't really stand out as much of a grievance. And I was expecting Whispers of the Citadel to be a much improved game, with the developer learning and fixing what didn't work in Elven Captor. Instead they decided to double down on those problems and because of this being a somewhat longer game, those problems stand out to the point that I cannot recommend anyone buying it. It has already been pointed out in some other reviews, that there are no animations. All you see are still images. But the biggest problem is the writing. It may not be full of grammatical or spelling errors, but it is hopelessly repetitive, as if you had asked someone to write a novel, who had only taken one course on writing. Just in the intro, we are told FOUR times that Serphinas "face is a mask", usually of something, i.e. she does not show her feelings. Her eyez are also "fixed upon you" several times, and when you're shown around the castle, the "silver-etched" objects are mentioned 3 times. The developer seems to have a love for certain phrases with the words being in a certain order, where they could've easily just written something like "etchings that are made of silver" or that Seraphina "looks at you intently". Instead we get this highschool drivel. Then there's the story. You are given an elven castle by the king of the humans, after a war with the Elves. The king dies, and you, being a general of an army, have an opportunity to be appointed the new king, but you need to married for that. And that's where the game starts. From then on, all the game is, is a menu with pictures of 5 women, and 30 days, which you can spend talking to one of them per day (and with a forced one day break after each conversation). Every conversation ranks the women up to a maximum of 10, and a lot of those conversation includes a non-animated sex scene. After the 30 days, you can then choose to marry any woman who is Rank 10, and you get an extra sex scene. And that's it. That's the game. Much like the previous game, I do like the renders, but unlike that game, the problems in this one are too big to ignore, as they are the developers chosen style. So I cannot recommend that you buy it. But if you do, skip through the dialogue, so you can at least fill out the replay gallery quicker, and get what you came for.
Recommend if on sale
I only recommend getting this if you can get it at a good sale price. For what is offered, the price is far too high for it to be worth full price. Pros: - Good render quality - Decent story - Multiple paths to choose from - Very few, if any spelling/grammatical errors Cons: - Zero animations - Compared to other AVNs you can get on the market, this one is VERY short for its asking price - Irrelevant choices during introduction, none during the paths
Here are the pros and cons of Whispers of the Citadel as I see it, I hope it is helpful: Pros: 1. I like elves and their pointed ears. 2. Some of the images are pretty good. 3. The story is complete and has only a few grammar errors. Cons: 1. I did not see anyplace in the descripton about non-consenual relations or I would not have purchased this AVN in the first place. Being in a posiitiion of power and ordering someone to do something they don't want to is non-consensual and ruins any story for me! I would have returned it if I had not already passed the 2 hout mark. 2. The story is very linear in nature and feels rushed, the only real choice is choosing a wife or not. 3. I wish I had not bought this AVN from the developer, but to be fair you may want to check out the earlier Forbidden Dojo release as it was much better than this AVN. If you are looking for other good AVNs on Steam, I also recommend: Acting Lessons, Depraved Awakenings, Leap of Faith, Love Season, and Sisterly Lust.
There's no choices in this game whatsoever You can attempt to talk to multiple women leading to a nobody ending This game feels like a horrible demo seeing as you can only with one woman a day, theres 5 women, and you have 30 days to make a decision There's a lot of dialogue, that really doesnt matter because of (first point made) The story is linear and would be better if there were choices, or even more environments outside the one youre locked in the MC has this weird obsession with footjobs which i dont understand You have to move through a specific order of "sex" with each woman, masturbating, handy, footjob, blowjob, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, then ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and each is a day and the first 2 or 3 days is solely talking so, again this game is a waste of time
Short. No real "Game" here. You merely chose which prospective wife to talk to within a thirty day limit, each visit with woman registers as a single day, and by the time you've got 10 visits with a woman, you can marry her when time runs out. You get a final sex scene and that's about it. Not a terrible AVN. Tries to be different. Just can't say buy it.
a good Visual Novel. I recommend it. lots of answer options to choose. some sex scenes. everything is uncensored, what do you want more. graphic is good. the price of this game is in offer for -50% very good.
Story
You arrive to become the Commander of Emeraldspire Citadel. Emeraldspire Citadel was part of the peace agreement between Halverth and Elreith, or as the elves put it, the spoils of war. Emeraldspire Citadel used to belong to the elves, a symbol of their power and wisdom. You are to be married to Elyndra Starleaf, an elf, to cement the bond between Halverth and Elreith, as decreed by the king. You are now responsible for the citadel's defense and the well-being of both the humans and elves that live there. The king dies in a hunting accident and if you want to be his successor you must find a wife in the next 30 days.
Gameplay
After a brief introduction you are given the option to customize your name, Richard by default. After you receive news that the king has dies the game really starts. You have 30 days to find a bride. You may visit with one woman per day. You cannot "power date" a woman, you are forced to switch between them. You must put at least a day between visits. Their maximum relationship level is 10, so you can fully romance three of the women in any play through. You are forced to play through the entire 30 days, so there is no rush to max out the relationships. During the scenes you will be able to pan the image to see more of it. There are normally three to five text blocks per image. Each of the women have their own personalities. While you can select which women to "date" that is all of the control that you have over the story. At the end of the 30 days you are able to select any of the woman that you have maxed out their relationship status, by visiting them ten times, to marry. There are minor issues where the text is attributed to the wrong character or a word is missing a letter. The English itself is excellent.
The Gallery
The Gallery is accessed from the title or save menu. It allows you to replay any of the scenes that you have unlocked in the game. Each woman has 10 scenes, not all contain action, plus an end scene. There is also a scene for not getting married.
Final Verdict
If you are into feet each woman has a foot scene. Excellent English, but you have little control over the story. The women all have different personalities and your character's personality changes depending on the woman. It doesn't matter if she gets into after you start. In the real world these actions may result in jail time.
Ok...so not much of anything here. could be tbh..but no real story .. just naked pics of the characters. nothing really to work for to make you want to actively seek any of the brides. id say its not worth the 12 bucks. and id redo the storyline and make quests.. add some actual sex scenes.. hell maybe even a little corruption for the elves. i think with alot more writing and interactions like most games out this could be a great one. would be fantastic if this played more into a dnd style visual novel where you could train and undertake quest to win over the brides and their kingdoms. perhaps even some of the brides are at war.. and if you dont have your female commander up to a certain point she dies in battle.. so much you can do with this.
