TL;DR: Great idea, frustrating execution. Poorly designed controls, artificial difficulty, and unnecessary limitations kill the fun. Just two lines of code would have been enough to improve it significantly. It’s a shame. A real shame. This game should be awesome, but all it delivers is frustration. The controls are clumsy. For some reason, the dev thought it was a good idea to force aiming and movement onto the same analog stick. That’s bad on a controller and absolutely terrible with mouse and keyboard. I die more often because I can’t move or aim where I want, not because I made a mistake. And let’s be honest: this is probably a one- or two-line fix in Unity (or whatever engine this mess is built in). Enemy design doesn’t help. Many enemies have instant-kill attacks, and the “skill” here is memorizing audio cues just to parry them. Speaking of audio: the cat companion will not shut up, repeating the same line over and over until it drills into your skull. I actually like the setting, but it barely evolves at all. Progression feels flat, and being forced to listen to the full boss introduction every single time you die is just another pinch of salt in an already open wound. The fun parts are artificially restricted. Barrel rolls? Limited by energy. Shoot? Limited by energy. Everything fun is limited, like a bad mobile game designed to punish you for playing instead of encouraging mastery. I could ask for a refund. But part of me still hopes the dev will just write those two lines of code that would turn this from a frustrating experience into something genuinely fun and enjoyable. Pros: Cool setting Solid core idea Barrel roll would be fun Cons: Terrible control scheme Artificial difficulty (instakill + audio memorization) Repetitive, annoying dialogue No meaningful progression Fun locked behind energy limits Verdict: Good idea, bad execution. Right now, frustration outweighs fun. If you want to play star fox try Ez Zodiac
It has been almost a year since i played like 22 hours to this game. I got some of the ost songs in my gym playlist because It gives some great vibes. Today I will reinstale the game again here after the long time to enjoy some more runs. Super recommended.
Theres just not much there. Sure its star foxy with rougelike elements but after about 10 hours theres nothing else to see or unlock. Maybe get it on sale if it looks fun to you.
If I hadn't played Star Fox 64 resently or Ex Zodiac or Rogue Flight right before this I might have had a more possitive opinion on this. But as it stands it's really bare bones and with randomized levels it really lacks one of SF64's best aspects: It's tight level design. Sure the game is fun when you get a bunch of upgrades and you're mowing down scores of enemies none stop, but by the time I got to that point the game just slowed enemy spawns to a crawl and I only had like two levels left and I really didn't want to start over. Also the story seems like a first draft based on improv. "Surpise! You are in a space ship being interviewed for a job! Start from there" just not that intersting I would recommend giving this one a skip. There's nothing you can't get from other better games
it's not bad... it's just not very fun for more than 2 hours
What the hell went wrong with this game? It looks so promising in the trailer yet for a game that isn't labeled Early Access this sure feels like a very unpolished product that doesn't know what it's doing with itself. Unfinished portraits, a parry mechanic that the game just isn't designed around at all that also comes to the detriment of no leaning mechanic for precision flying in a game genre that HINGES on that sort of precision, and voice acting with quips that couldn't be more generic AAA if they tried to be while the voice acting itself is somehow better in the trailer than it is in game. WHAT went wrong here? I'm at such a lost of words that all I can say is that I hope the full Whisker Squadron game is better than this.
Great on ROG Ally+Steam Deck OLED
Es un increible juego, es como Starfox rougue like me gusto bastante y si lo tuyo es Star fox y partidas rapidas esto es lo tuyo, es super adictivo See you, space cowboy
I'm a fan! The style and vibes are fun, it looks and sounds great. I found it easy to jump into and replayable from the variety. Though it has clear inspirations from classic games it's very much its own thing in a good way. I find some roguelikes either frustrating or repetitive, it can be a tough balance to strike, but this one felt tuned well for the way I prefer to play.
