When Our Journey Ends - A Visual Novel

I like the music and art, it was pretty and calming. Voice acting was nice. But... it was lacking.. the story was short and very straightforward. AND most importantly the steam achievements don't work. (maybe after fiddling with stuff u can make them work but it's too expensive game for it to be so short and broken.) I probably got this game from some giveaway but it still annoys me >:l

As always, I am conflicted. I think that the ~30 minutes of extras are really well written, and are worth it: they really made me care about the characters. But that comes after a rather contrived story and the game is on the pricier side. At the time of writing, the game is 7 EUR, I'd say it's worth around 5 EUR since it took me ~2 hours to complete it while listening to all of the voiced lines: VNs tend to be priced at 1 EUR / 10k words / hour, and I doubled the price for the voice acting. Also the achievements are broken, this is a Steam nitpick, but having to download an old version of the game to fix them yourself isn't a great user experience. I got this game in a bundle, so personally, it's definitely worth it. But given its Steam price… meh

The good: good artwork, background and illustrations. Does feature voice acting, and in English for those that do not understand Japanese and want to actually understand what characters say. The bad: the story is rather short. The engine used to run the game is terrible. Auto mode does not work, and many features are there but hidden behind keyboard shortcuts. The story: rather linear, with two endings that are to be honest not too different from each other; plus some extra content after completion. Although trains might be proeminently displayed on the store page, they are mostly background, as the novel delves into spiritual folklore. The verdict: very expensive at base price. Do wait for a sale if interested. 6/10.

Not only are the Steam achievements broken, so is the ~30m bonus content other reviewers said there should be. What? 30m on an hour full story...!!! EDIT: Okay was wrong. The choices made during the story are personal or impersonal and you need to get enough personal to get the bonus story. Not that the game informs you of this, only found it by poking the script :/ EDIT2: Stationmaster VO in all the extra's was messed up :/

I did buy this visual novel out of curiosity for the old style. I do enjoy it even it's a very short game. Pro: + Background art style + Original story Cons - It is very short, I do reccomend to wait for some discount - Poor chance to make your own choices Problems: - Achievements no longer works - Mixed voice lines for the Stationmaster in the extra chapters
