About

An arcade space shooter which follows the adventure of a team of elite pilots during what seems at first a routine training in virtual reality.
In this mind-blowing journey through retrowave aesthetic environments and synthwave music you will shoot your way through the simulations (or not?) of the units and minions of the evil Skal Empire.
FUR Squadron keeps the gameplay of classic 90's on-rails shooters alive, while bringing it up to date with even smoother controls and a refreshingly modern and sleek visual style.
An action and narrative-driven on-rails adventure with a classic 90’s shooter flair.
Smooth and quick gameplay through levels full of enemies and massive bosses. Unlock their secrets and power-up your star ship for maximum performance.
Six Levels. Three levels of difficulty piloting a variety of ships.
Original synthesizer soundtrack to match the retrowave aesthetics.
Steam Deck compatible.
A lovely axolotl!
The story of FUR Squadron is set in the middle of routine virtual reality training. However, an unknown threat bursts onto the scene and endangers the lives of the team. Could the dreaded Skal Empire be the one behind all of this?
The fur_net system developed by Axel Mex shows low poly graphics rendered with a retrowave aesthetic. Of course, the whole adventure is accompanied by a synthwave soundtrack to match the graphics. Because work is best done in style.
Blaze Mustela is the leader of the FUR Squadron. He is brave and determined and is always focused on accomplishing the mission. When the going gets tough, he keeps his cool and helps his team get through the situation.
Kiro Nax had an accident that prevented him from flying with his own wings. Determined to take to the skies, he learned to pilot and has shown enormous talent at the controls. Now he is a valuable member of the squadron who likes to show off, even if that can get him into trouble.
Axel Mex was abandoned as a tadpole, but ended up being adopted by Blaze and recruited as a member of the FUR Squadron. Her curiosity led her to become an expert in technology. Within the squadron, she serves as their engineer and computer expert as well as a pilot. Always cheerful, she does not hesitate to face the bad guys in order to protect her new family.

I would like to make it known this game controls well and plays well. My Negative review is solely on the basis of it lacking checkpoints, If I am on the third stage of a multistage boss at the end of a long on rails level and I die and the game puts me back at the beginning of the stage that really discourages the player.
So I can tell overall this is a labor of love, so I don't want to be too hard on the dev. Take this "negative" review as more of constructive criticism. Overall, it aims to recapture the vibe of Starfox. Although it strives to be more like the SNES version, it feels more like some hybrid of SNES and N64. There are obvious references and allusions to the characters, catchphrases, and other such fan service items - which I don't think is bad necessarily. However, the game really is a shadow of the games it aims to be like. For starters, I could forgive this game if it aimed and controlled better. The sensitivity of your craft while flying, even on the absolute lowest setting, is obnoxiously high. I had to turn down the settings using steam input just to get it to be managable. The aim box also snaps back to center way too fast. It makes it very hard to aim. Particularly in one boss, the camera inverts completely and it was literally impossible to aim properly while flying and avoiding. I almost rage quit here, but I managed to get past it by just firing down the hit areas that were on the periphery first, leaving me the center bits that were easier to aim at. However, I legit feel it may be impossible to hit those periphery areas once that camera inverts. The controls are also severely limited and lacking. There's shoot, missile, and single tap L/R for barrel roll. That's it. Where's the tilt left right? Where's the boost/brake? I can forgive it for not having U-turn/somersault, seeing as how short it is and that there's no all range mode sections, but at the same time, having no other basic additions just made the game feel very boring. Lastly, although I appreciate the synthwave asthetic (its one of my favourites), it needed better distinction for your projectiles and crosshair. I also feel the music in this was sorely lacking and not befitting of the aesthetic - you went for synthwave, where's the synthwave sountrack???? Even one track would be enough. Lastly, I found the powerups in this game to be a bit weird. Since you can't break wings or anything to lose your dual lazers, there's no risk once you get them except for dying. I also think that the powerups seemed to give you a ♥♥♥♥ ton of missiles which aren't very useful because there's never more than a few enemies on screen. I wanted twin lazers out the bat because aiming is so hard, but sometimes you don't get the upgrade until well into a level. My last gripe, and this is a big one, is that the last boss had a really obnoxious last phase. Very hard to hit, not at all indicative of the difficulty of the rest of the game thus far, and when you die? guess what ♥♥♥♥♥, back to the beginning. I just rage quit honestly as the game wasn't really all that enjoyable. Yeah yeah skill issue whatever, I'd rather be playing Starfox 64 decomp. This game really needed a bit more time in the oven. I don't mean because it needs more content or levels - what's there is mostly fine. But what's there just isn't all that enjoyable of an experience because the things that make Starfox great aren't really implemented. If the dev went back and tweaked based on some of my suggestions, I would easily recommend this to people on sale for a few bucks, which is how I got it. But 8.99 CAD full price for what's here is not worth it unfortunately. Look, Star Fox 64 is one of my FAVORITE games of all time, easily. I replay it almost every year. It's almost a flawless game in my opinion. However, this game just really doesn't quite get where it needs to. If you're a fan of Starfox and you squint really really hard and ignore its many, many flaws, you might enjoy the experience. But in all honesty, The 30 mins you'd spend playing this and beating it will just make you wish you were playing Star Fox 64 instead, rather than making you feel like something modern has scratched the Star Fox itch. TL;DR - "We have Starfox at home"
I am genuine surprised that they charged money for this. The game is a half baked tech demo at best, and feels like a proof of concept. The dialog feels like it has zero character, and there's less gameplay depth than even the SNES Star Fox game. You have shoot, missile and roll, that's it. The game moves at a snail's pace.
Look I get "this game is best played with a controller". Sure. But not ALLOWING player to turn off the controller without literally physically unplugging it is inexcusable. Add a toggle in the options.
You get what you pay for. It ain't groundbreaking or high-budget but it's short-and-sweet. This did seem like a prototype prequel for the sequel, FUR Squadron Phoenix, which does look like a lot more.
A good little Star Fox experience that takes place after their 2nd game, FUR Squadron Phoenix. It can be beaten pretty quickly but has some postgame challenges you can do if you want more playtime.
being a worse version of star fox still makes you one of the most bang-for-your-buck replayable games on steam
Short and entertaining on rails game, if your only benchmark is star fox yeah, play it but at this price point and don't expect the same experience. I liked that the graphics are justified in the story. The boss with inverse view and controls in upper level of difficulty, UGH just NO thanks.
Plays well, this is absolutely a love letter to the Star-Fox franchise (as I had hoped it would be). Game mechanics are very similar, they even have equivalent characters to the Star-Fox team (obviously different to avoid the assassins from Nintendo). Worth buying and playing, the characters are adorable furries and the game is a quality title, it is short (although Star-Fox games often are).

I cover a wide range of genres both paid and unpaid, providing unbiased opinions as well as regular giveaway events.

This is just Star Fox 64
The original Star Fox 64 is perhaps one of my most played games of all time, and it remains one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing even to this day when I return to it on occasion. This game, on the other hand, isn't particularly good, owing to the numerous copycat references to the Star Fox team. The game play is good, decent, and plays well. However, because it feels like a blatant rip rather than a real respect to the game it is trying to recreate in a different way, it fails to impress and instead irritates me especially Kiro.
Conclusion
Terrible rip of Starfox 64 would have been pretty solid if it had played the role of a game paying homage to the past while attempting to be more original to itself with the characters and phrases utilized.
