we need Chinese!!!
Edit: the developer replied to a number of discussions today and released a patch addressing two issues. I consider this a good sign :) For those who read my previous review: after playing some more, I decided to delete it and write a new one, making it clearer that this is separate. I really wish I could indicate a "mixed feelings" rather than a binary yes/no. I like the game. It really hits a sweet spot with me, both in gameplay (which feels heavily inspired by Tavern Master, though with some added complexity) and theme. I've enjoyed the four hours I've played so far, covering six of the eight levels (though moving on immediately once I hit all the objectives, so certainly not played out). Having said that, the game has several problems. There are several minor unclarities (the purpose of ingredient knowledge and staff morale) and minor (visual) bugs, and potential for improvement of the interfaces, all of which don't really bother me and which I would expect to be fixed rather easily. More seriously, in my latest run, my player character didn't seem to (fully) follow the priority restrictions I gave (and prepared a starter dish every now and then, even though I'd only selected mains and desserts). [strike]In level 7, I couldn't build any furniture, as another player also pointed out in the discussions. This prevents any progress, and I'm surprised it wasn't caught earlier.[/strike] Another player also pointed out the lack of communication by the developer in the discussions. I checked out the Discord server, where there was promising interaction in early January. In particular, the developer mentioned adding a menu diversity score to reputation, to encourage filling the menu, which is in the game --- this is a positive for me. However, there's been almost no communication since, and I'd expected some around release. I want this game to be good, and I personally want to give the (solo) developer the benefit of the doubt. At the same time, I fully realise that this may not be an option for everyone. All in all: I'm enjoying my time playing, and the first six levels already cover quite some ground, so I wouldn't *not* recommend it because of that. However, I'd highly advise some caution since the game feels either somewhat unfinished or at least unpolished. It's a pity the demo no longer seems to be available. In case of doubt, it might be better to wait for further communication and updates before committing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN-bAHH-SWQ&feature=youtu.be
What's on the Menu?
we need Chinese !!!!!!!!! I believe that if there is Chinese, quite a few people will buy it !!!
so first of all.....the dev abandoned this game. less than 2 weeks after launch. so its dead. and no he did not fix everything with 2 crappy updates. this game is so disappointing. it had so much potential. as it is tho, its just not good. where to start..... the time in this game is wonky. a day is literal seconds and theres nothing to distinguish the days. its just a calendar to the side that keeps ticking. one customer can be in your restaurant for a week in game time. and you only get paid by them once. which means you dont earn like you should. theres goals of being profitable for 4 months in a row. but when you only get a limited number of paying customers, its just not where it should be. fortunately theres no real penalty for jacking the food prices up to max. it says you get bad reviews but my reputation never had an issue. and it was the only way to actually make any sort of profit in the game. this game can be very boring and tedious. youll get to a point where things are going ok. youre making some money. and then its just waiting for a goal to grind out. the first two restaurants were a struggle to get thru. i would literally just leave the game running and go do something else for a bit. the decor and equipment options are extremely limited. you basically get a choice of wooden or metal for the cooking tables. two choices of fridges. none of which makes a difference other than one style costs more. theres no perk for buying the more expensive stuff. for decor you get like 3 plants and 4 paintings. so when your decor is holding up your rep, you end up just spamming one thing thru the restuarant. none of the options give more towards decor points that i could really tell. and then you have i believe 4 tables and 4 chairs to pick from. and thats it. you can change the wallpaper and flooring. i never bothered. there was no point. you dont stay on a restaurant long enough to make it worth your time. the goals are the same for every star on every restaurant. the goals are fine for the first 2 restaurants. but once you start getting to bigger places where you can unlock more rooms, you wont even get that far. you get maybe 1 or 2 rooms unlocked before you hit 3 stars and move on. which doesnt make you feel like youve done a successful business in your style. its just grindy. do the same goals and move on. the game is also really bad about bottlenecks in the gameplay. i would have counters (plural) filled with food waiting to go out to the customers and no one would take it out. i tried to have employees that could do service and something else (cooking or maintenance). so everyone had the ability to do the serving. but the cooks just kept wanting to cook. the servers just kept wanting to take orders. and the game is screaming at me that theres not enough counters for the food. performance is bad. i dont have a crappy computer but the 4th restaurant brought the game to a crawl. i didnt even have half the restaurant unlocked. literally just 2 rooms, a kitchen and a dining room. but it was so laggy. menus wouldnt want to work. things were glitching in and out. and again.....i finished the restaurant before i even had the full thing set up. it offered 4 dining rooms. i had one and a half setup when i finished it. but given how laggy and unresponsive it was becoming, i was happy to move on. i cant recommend this game in the slightest. even on a deep sale. save your money. and as for the new project the dev is working on.....i wouldnt hold my breath for that either. i will not be buying anything else from this dev. this game could have been amazing. he could have kept updating it so people would leave good reviews and itd sell better. instead he took the money and ran.
I think because I played the demo it was easier for me. I finished the game in 20 hrs with all stars. I will probably go back to unlock a few more achievements from playing longer but the game isn't that long. It is still new so they can always add more levels and things. Edit: it is an abandoned game so buyers beware. There are no updates or communication. The best you will get in about 12 hrs without trying to get achievements. Very short game...
Nope, this is not the restaurant game you always wanted nor even a good demo. Can't recommend, not in any way.
