Great escape room game! The puzzles had a perfect mix of difficulties, the story was well written, the environmental detail was great. I admit to using the guide a few times. IMO, all of the puzzles were fair, but 2 (
piano, and the proper order of keys
) really stumped me. In retrospect I could have found them if I had systematically reviewed all the available environmental clues, but I was feeling impatient today. On a better day, those could have been very satisfying to solve. My only complaint: missable achievements in the middle of the game, with no chapter select. To get 100% achievements, I'd need to replay it from the start just to get to a couple small easter eggs. Not a fun way to spend 2+ hours.

Impressive game with a great atmosphere! The locations remind me of good old medieval RPGs, like Gothic, Risen, or The Witcher. It was a pleasant surprise, as screenshots on the store page show only the dungeon part of the game, which doesn't really do it full justice. The puzzles are diversified and remain interesting throughout the game. The puzzle locations are clearly marked, and all notes and items are easy enough to find, so there's no pixel-hunting. Although all puzzles are logical, some of them expect us to remember some minor details from the notes or the environment, which turns out to be quite difficult in the main chapter, where there are 3 floors with multiple rooms. This requires either a lot of patience, or peeking in the walkthrough. Most of the puzzles are well implemented, although I remember one that could use better UI: I'd never guess that the switches on the Tinkerer's machine
need to be toggled multiple times and in a specific order, as there's nothing to indicate that the state of the machine changes
. I liked the style in which the notes are written, with the story blended with information essential for solving puzzles. However, I found a few of the notes to be somewhat confusing. For example, Note 9 talks about checkmate,
but there's no checkmate in the depicted chess position (actually both kings are in check, which is not allowed according to standard chess rules)
. Note 20 mentions a "mouse's hole",
which turns out to be just an allegory, even though the rest of the riddle directs us to some actual features of the dining room
. Note 23 suggests that the glass tube
can be somehow stolen from the Tinkerer's workshop, but the relevant information turns out to be completely different
. The Garden of Secrets is a nice addition that could very well be a separate game. It doesn't rely on notes, but more on hints in the environment, and I found it slightly easier, closer in difficulty to the beginning of the base game, which is a step in the right direction in my opinion. All in all, the game is a great value and certainly deserves more traction. I'll be on the lookout for more games or updates from the devs.
Well, I gotta say Waterfall Prisoner was a very pleasant surprise! An escape room type puzzler filled with a LOT of puzzles to make it worth your while. Some of them are of a more classic mechanical type, while most (my favourites) are focused on gathering clues from the environment and from some notes you find along the way (which are in-universe, not just direct clues, very nicely integrated). Some of them also involve collecting and using different items, including some of the best designed and used keys I've seen in a long time. The difficulty curve is perfectly balanced, starting out pretty linear and gradually increasing the complexity until you get to the final areas, more open and with more and more puzzles available at the same time, with also plenty of crossovers between them. I got stuck in some of them, but most of the time just coming back after a good night's sleep was enough to see things in a different light, as it should be with good puzzle games. The plot is also worth mentioning, a small but charming mystery told mostly via the in-game documents, which are very carefully written since they intertwine plot points with puzzle clues. It's not obvious at all, and thus it's also very rewarding discovering every clue. It's like the plot is a puzzle in itself, very on-topic and refreshing! To top it all off, the developers released a free epilogue DLC with a new area full of totally new puzzles (including some new mechanics) which also provides a nice finishing touch to the base plot. That's the kind of commitment and passion I love to see from a dev team, I will make sure to keep an eye on any future projects.
Great puzzle/escape style game, tons of fun, they even added a free update bringing a new area to the end of the game :) We need more like this!
