About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

Warhounds seems alright except for a few issues, honestly. It feels like they have a few good ideas but the "no rng" thing is straight up not true (other than a guaranteed hit chance at close range?). Some of the "voice acting" sounds like it's AI generated and there seem to be a lot of AI generated images in the battle maps as well. If you can prove me wrong about the AI stuff please do, your game's disclaimer said you only used some AI generated assets as placeholders and from playing the game that seems like a fabrication. Line of sight doesn't seem to exist, your soldiers have a big circle of sight around them and everything in the circle is visible to you. Enemy squads just seem to be waiting until you find them, they don't appear to be patrolling the maps which kind of kills immersion. One annoying issue (or feature??) is that some of the enemy grenadiers fire timed fire grenades that ignite the floor as they land and then again after 1 turn. Which is just a pain because it'll cost you an entire turn to get rid of the fire, 1 AP (action points) to move out of the impeding fire and another 2 AP to extinguish the fire from the soldier if they do it themselves or 1 AP if another soldier does it. Which is a bit much considering your guys only have 2 AP. Why can't we throw the timed grenades back at the enemy? they're on the ground for 1 or 2 turns before they detonate If the current way the enemy fire grenades work right now is intended it's just not fun.

Tech problems aside, I'm having a blast. And yes, I know, “it's version 1.0, it should be fixed already”. Agree. It SHOULD. But I also think it's fair to say when something is actually good. The tactical core is good. The missions are fun. The story is... surprisingly okay? I was expecting nothing and ended up actually following what was happening.
The game has really good potential but needs a lot of balancing changes and has a number of bugs. Full Thoughts Here: https://youtu.be/R0AnFfLXOLI?is=jSIXOwy20Pqk_Cii
I read the negative reviews before buying and was honestly expecting a broken game. It isn't. At least not for me. And saying the gameplay is bad? Nah. You can criticize the balance or lack of content, sure. But the core combat is solid.
Fajn
Times like these I wish there was a mixed button. I like how they (the agents) interact with specific actors, how they have banter, how they react to mission outcomes and sitreps. But it feels like a very on rails XCOM 2. The AI is not very good at all, I've witnessed several instances were the enemy AI will move to somewhere, then move back to the same square they started, over multiple turns. I dunno, I was excited to see the trailers and I like the ballistics style hit chances, but it feels disingenuous to call out XCOM for missing a more than one 95% to hit per mission. I probably wont be beating it, and play XCOM 2 LWOTC.
This is probably the simplest way I can describe Warhounds: It looks more like XCOM than it actually plays like XCOM. It has the same familiar foundations, but once you start understanding the AP system, cover behavior, overwatch and visibility, the combat develops its own rhythm. It's not JA3. It's not XCOM. It's not trying to replace either. And probably this is not the best tactical game I ever played. But it has a surprisingly solid core.
The game def has alot of inspiration from all the turn based shooter games like xcom. Its fun and it will go places in time. Unfortunetly I already hit the universal xcom glitches with a shotgun at point blank of 100% chance to hit and still missing the entire shooting action. I guess some bugs just never go away. Though I can only assume it will be a bit more of a rare occurrence if this game keeps progressing.
