Purchased Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Anniversary Edition (Classic) but it does not start. Throws up a crash report. Very sad they released a game which does not run!

Doesnt lunch at all on Windows 11

Terrible game wont even launch, it's big problem happening to most folks who buy it. Wish it wasnt the case. I was so hyped to play this after beating the first one.

Does not start Maybe a Problem with Windows 11 or my CPU Tried all workarounds but nothing works and Publisher/Developer does not care.

A bit steep to repackage this at $50 considering this game is almost old enough to drink in Europe, but that doesn't detract from it being a good game. You'll get three products with this in your steam library: DoW 2, Chaos Rising, and Retribution. Be aware Retribution must be launched separately to access its content (including the Imperial Guard). That aside, this is a fun twist on the RTS genre that takes a lot from games like Company of Heroes (same developer) and some RPG inspiration. Your armies won't be massive, but what you do have will be units you have a lot of control over through wargear upgrades, veterancy from units killed, and abilities to aid in combat. Being 40k, there's also great asynchronous unit variety where each of the six factions gets their own take on how best to deal with the problems presented by everyone else, whether that means units with bigger guns, bigger claws, or massive 11-barreled tanks. In multiplayer you can also customize your army by changing up the paint and badge or even by adding your own custom badges (has to be done through file explorer outside of the game unfortunately). You'll also be able to unlock new cosmetic changes for armies as you play them and, if you get a group of 3 people together, play the survival "Last Stand" mode which is both fun and repeatable with rogue-like progression. This is a fun, strategic, action-packed RTS that's enjoyable to anyone who's a fan of 40k or newcomers with an interest in tactical RTS-style gameplay. Though maybe wait for a sale because $50 is still outrageous.

I've played the original DOW2 back when it was first released, and it was my first introduction to the WH40k universe. Now, I still consider the original DOW2 campaign with Anniversary Edition improvements to be the most fun campaign of DOW2, combining the tactical gameplay with the light strategic choices between the story and the time-limited optional missions. I also still see it as one of the better introductions to the Warhammer 40000 universe, presenting the lore of the factions gradually and naturally, while also making the Space Marines relatable by the story dialogues showing their human side in addition to their zeal and fury (which is rewarded with victory!)
