Reviews
It was one of my favorite games, but it's unplayable on modern systems. It won't even run without downloading a fixed profile script from github, and even then there are missions that flat out don't work - the game just crashes every time you try to start them.
Adding nothing new and making it impossible to buy Retribution alone although you still install it seperately. No optimization or new content. Too high a price for this old game. But a great RTS still. No basebuilding, a greater focus on skirmishes. Buy when on sale.

awesome game for its age still very enjoyable epic sound and graphics
The Dawn of war 2 campaign is actually so peak. Out of all other 40k titles so far. There's nothing like having a terminator and devastator squads in formation, back to back, personally delivering exterminatus to all tyranid xeno threats on the calderis village desert streets and alley ways. While holding the middle of the map against all surrounding reinforcements, with building and object destruction and debri everywhere. As the force commander and dreadnought eliminate the priority target. The voice acting, world building, story boarding and cutscenes go hard too.
When I first purchased this game back in 2009, I didnt know what to make of it - it felt really jarring from what I experienced with DOW1 and its many expansions, which allowed you to build a base, do research and amass a large army to overpower your opponents. They scrubbed the entire base building/technology aspect and made it more tactical squad-based, more similar to XCOM, albeit in real-time. Your squad commanders/elites earn XP and level up, which allow you to spec into various percs and abilities, and you can collect gear from each mission to make your team even more powerful. Each mission varies in challenge, with the missions based around the tyranids being some of the more difficult due to their massive zerg-like numbers. Playing this game with a fresh lense after nearly 20 years was refreshing and allowed me to appreciate the game for what it is and not dislike it for what it isn't. If you like real-time tactical missions with RPG-like elements, you'll enjoy this. If you were expecting DOW1 and something more akin to starcraft/warcraft/AOE, you'll probably be disappointed, as I was in 2009.
While the game is very fun there is currently no supported or official way to play the game. The game will not launch and you will have to Task Manager end the game. I've attempted multiple fixes and at this point the only reported *POSSIBLE* fixes are downloading files from github to replace 'official' ones and see if that works. Some people have success, some do not. If they provide an update or fix will go back to a thumbs up. TL:DR ***DO NOT BUY*** multiple users, including myself, CAN NOT play the game. At all. Downloading files from other users online *might* fix it.
