Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 27 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Faaaaarrrr out. This old classic is a long time fav, and to get it to work was always too much nerd skill needed for me. Best game to come out in 2023 (don't waste your time mentioning the big flashier names, I have those). Nothing beats giving a grognard their old classics back.
Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! represents a fascinating era of computer strategy gaming where developers focused less on presentation and more on giving players powerful systems to experiment with. Developed by Strategic Simulations and republished on Steam by SNEG, the game feels like a preserved relic from the golden age of hardcore PC wargames, delivering an experience built around tactical freedom, military authenticity, and scenario customization. While modern players may initially struggle with its dated appearance and old-school interface design, those willing to invest time into understanding its mechanics will discover an incredibly deep and rewarding battlefield simulator that still manages to stand apart from many contemporary strategy titles. At its core, the game is a turn-based armored warfare simulation covering a massive span of military history, ranging from World War I engagements to late Cold War conflicts. Players gain access to a huge variety of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery units, and infantry forces from different nations and eras, creating opportunities for endless experimentation. Battles emphasize positioning, terrain management, line of sight, firing ranges, and tactical planning rather than quick reactions or cinematic action. Every move across the battlefield carries weight because one poorly positioned unit can suddenly become exposed to devastating enemy fire. Unlike many modern strategy games that prioritize accessibility, Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! expects players to think carefully and approach each scenario like an actual battlefield commander. One of the strongest elements of the experience is the extraordinary level of customization available through its scenario construction tools. This is not simply a strategy game with a handful of missions and campaigns. Instead, it is effectively a battlefield creation toolkit that allows players to design their own conflicts from the ground up. The scenario editor offers enormous flexibility for constructing historical recreations, hypothetical Cold War clashes, or entirely fictional military operations. Combined with the random battle generator, the game becomes almost limitless in terms of replayability. Players can adjust maps, forces, weather conditions, terrain layouts, and victory conditions, resulting in a strategy sandbox that remains surprisingly ambitious even decades after its original release. The gameplay itself rewards patience and methodical thinking. Tanks are not simply health bars rolling across the map; they behave according to armor values, firing capabilities, and battlefield positioning. Terrain becomes critically important, with forests, hills, rivers, and open fields influencing both visibility and survivability. Ambush tactics are particularly satisfying because careful preparation can completely destroy a stronger enemy force before it has time to react. This creates a slow but tense style of gameplay where each turn feels meaningful. Victories are earned through strategy and foresight rather than overwhelming numbers or arcade-style mechanics. At the same time, the game undeniably shows its age in many areas. The graphics are extremely primitive by modern standards, consisting of basic top-down visuals and simple interface layouts that prioritize function over style. Sound effects are minimal, animations are sparse, and menus can feel cumbersome for newcomers unfamiliar with DOS-era design philosophy. There are moments where the interface becomes unintuitive, especially when navigating the editor systems or issuing commands to large groups of units. Players raised on streamlined contemporary strategy games may initially find the learning curve frustrating. However, for retro strategy enthusiasts, these limitations are often viewed as part of the experience rather than outright flaws. What truly helps the game endure is its commitment to pure tactical depth. Modern strategy games frequently sacrifice complexity for visual presentation or faster pacing, but Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! fully embraces its identity as a detailed military simulation. The game trusts players to learn its systems, experiment with strategies, and create their own stories through gameplay. That design philosophy gives the experience a timeless quality despite its technological limitations. The satisfaction comes not from flashy cutscenes or progression systems, but from slowly mastering battlefield tactics and constructing engaging scenarios that test strategic thinking. The Steam rerelease by SNEG also deserves praise because it preserves an important piece of strategy gaming history that might otherwise become inaccessible. Many classic SSI titles helped define the tactical wargame genre during the late 1980s and early 1990s, influencing generations of strategy developers and hardcore simulation fans. Bringing Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! to modern platforms ensures that newer audiences can experience a style of game design that has become increasingly rare. It serves not only as entertainment but also as a reminder of how ambitious and mechanically rich older PC strategy games could be despite technological limitations. Another aspect that makes the game memorable is its atmosphere of unrestricted experimentation. There is something uniquely satisfying about creating bizarre what-if scenarios involving tanks and military units from entirely different eras facing one another on custom-built battlefields. The game encourages creativity in ways that many modern titles do not. Players can spend hours simply testing unit matchups, recreating famous historical battles, or designing tactical challenges for themselves. This sense of ownership over the gameplay experience helps the title maintain long-term appeal far beyond its initial content. Ultimately, Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! is a deeply niche game that caters specifically to players who appreciate classic strategy design, military history, and tactical experimentation. It is not designed for casual audiences seeking instant gratification or visual spectacle. Instead, it rewards patience, curiosity, and strategic thinking with a remarkably flexible and engaging combat sandbox. Its outdated visuals and interface may create barriers for some players, but beneath those rough edges lies an exceptionally rich tactical experience that still commands respect decades after its original release. For fans of retro wargames and military simulations, it remains an absorbing and historically significant title that showcases the creativity and depth of classic PC strategy gaming. Rating: 7/10

You need to be very committed to play this game. Now the manual is 60 pages long, but it at least has a better graphical interface than the first.
