i did not beat it but i enjoyed playing. unsure if i will go back and beat the boss. i liked how many areas and how freely you can explore. the game doesnt box you in nearly as much as other metroidvanias. so many upgrades and secrets and exploration and rewards collecting. the progression with movement and abilities feels really nice as you progress. i am usually pretty bad at games but i was able to keep up. played on steamdeck prob 90% of the game
This game is billed as a metroidvania, but it would be more accurate to call it a Hollow Knight clone (thats a good thing).
Waaaay to far behind its contemporaries. I only slightly mind the flash game aesthetics, but the incoherent story from the beginning and starting tedium was too high of a bar to continue. Def not for me.
a very fun and short metroidvania
Setting and visuals were great Gameplay was alright. I'd put this at mid tier metroidvania at best
I boot up the game and IMMEDIATELY get jumpscared by throat singing XwX Other than that though I wouldn't say the music is anything special. Gameplay is solid, but nothing groundbreaking. Difficulty is meh, if you know which tools to use you can pretty much melt any boss. There are also a metric sheep ton of health upgrades, like, the healthbar reaches to the other end of the screen by the time you get them all. This pretty much encourages face-tanking all attacks and mashing the attack button until everything dies. Healing items are a little limited even when you've collected all of them and they don't do much healing, unless you use a charm to increase it. COMPLETIONISTS BEWARE! To get all the achievements you'll have to complete the game no less than FIVE times - once for the normal run, three times for all the new game+ difficulties and one more time in Hardcore mode (where you can't die). I didn't find this fun at all and saw it as a needless addition to pad the gameplay. That aside, if you're a filthy casual that only plans to go through the game once - I'd say go for it!
I would have loved to like this game - the eery athmosphere, soft soundtrack and great animations. But sadly as much as I would (really!!!) like, my fingers do not void-wrought enough, to even get the second boss done. If you are into dying and retrying a lot (like meatboy, but you have to run to get back to where you failed (at least: no corpse runs!)) this is an absolute fine piece of art. I just hoped it to be a little bit more metroid-vania, and a little bit less like all those soulless "soulslike" hollow-knight, pixel-perfect, pattern-learning-dance-move-games. My failure. Devs: there is simply no excuse for not allowing to tune difficulty in your game. Games ought to be fun. Yes: do some tuning and get it right, but please keep in mind, to include all of your players into the fun. I'm sure many are closed out by this design, to ever enjoy the game, the story, the design to its fullest. I do know, there are plenty of "Hollow Knight"-Folks out there, that are stoically singing there "git gud" song along - they might be the exceptional gamers, willing and capable of training endlessly; give 'em an achivement for not tuning the difficulty down. But why pointlessly exclude so many metroid-vania fans (that maybe are not Hollow Knightists)? No offence, just my humble opinion.
Loved playing but wish it was a bit harder
