The pros: Walking in the path of Xcom games and their spiritual successors, some of us cannot get enough squad centered turn-based combat games so if you're like me this is a worthy addition to your collection. There's also a space combat system which is fun and attractive which isn't bad either. Exploring systems, getting loot and upgrades is fun, and the somewhat threadbare story of a pirate guild in decline trying to recapture it's old glory are interesting enough to hold your attention. Character diversity (or going all in on one class) are both viable strategies, and I enjoyed the game enough to play through it from start to finish twice back to back. Perhaps this belies that the campaign is relatively short (you can win in 160-190 game turns, not counting ground combat) -- but the first time I played a diverse pirate crew with a retrofitted prison ship, and the second time I played an alien ("Krell'sha) crew that excelled in speed and hacking people up in melee. Both ways were fun, no regrets. Enemies are diverse enough to hold your interest, and the intricacies of combat will keep you playing especially if don't mind the odds often being in your favor... (you are usually outnumbered but this is far outweighed by how tanky the average character is unless you have one guy run too far ahead, practically the only mistake you can make. Which leads to the cons: Can get repetitive at times, Game is too easy (especially much of the tactical combat.) Also it just recently came out of early access but there is no save function implemented in tactical combat, only outside of squad battle... which is equal parts frustrating and annoying, but check if it's been fixed by the time you buy it. It shouldn't get too much in the way anyway with many combats being a cake walk... (though several are genuinely hard.) That's my review in a nutshell. It came out of early access, I played the crap out of it, and recommend it to fans of the genre. Nuff Said.

I purchased this at initial release. At the early stages it definitely lacked much of what you would expect from a game based in this genre. Fast forward to now and it has grown into a excellent TBS. It has the X-Com feel already. I have seen the developer listen to feedback and stay on top of issues. Still updating and adding much needed features, and tweaking others to for better use. For the asking price you can't go wrong. A lot of the early reviews were right, but it no longer pertains to where this is now in development. Whole heartedly recommend!
Unfinished, unpolished game. More and more the game gets me stuck on "enemy turn" and I can't do anything. I have to constantly load at the start of the mission and can't even quick save while on mission. What a shame. It would've been great. Even NexusMods doesn't have mods for this game, and I was hoping someone would make a fix for this issue!
Game balance is pretty rough. It may not be quite ready for release.
As a big fan of turn based games like XCOM I was drawn to this as soon as a saw it. I've recently dumped a load of hours into what I hoped would fill that XCOM itch (Cyberknights Flashpoint, Stellar Tactics, Rogue Trader and Colony Ship) but although they were all good in certain ways they were not in others. Rogue trader is of course a bigger thing than even XCOM. Loads going on. Combat is fun but you have to really immerse yourself in the game. You can't just pop in for a quick battle. Colony ship. Also loads going on. Combat is its weakest point. Often end up fighting across tables in a small room. It's CRPG combat not XCOM (All your guys can individually go where they want) combat Stellar Tactics. Similar combat to Colony Ship. Often end up fighting in a doorway because it's triggered as soon as you walk in and all your guys are stuck in the same place. Cyberknights. XCOM like combat but way too many enemy reinforcements, security and omg do they love to overwatch you to death. Not that I didn't find very good parts to all those games but they all had complications. Void Marauders is like XCOM without as much story or choices. A huge percentage of the game is combat. Loads of systems to explore each with a heap of ground combat (Planets or spaceships) to take on if you want plus space combat which is actually good looking if simple. The environments are okay, nothing flashy but the actual character models of your mercs look good in both set up and battle. Nice positioning movements which look realistic. Plus you can hire new mercs at a space station in each system. There's a lot of customisation too. Sound effects for everything is very good. Combat is very XCOM but you rarely miss high percentage shots and there's no unfair reinforcements or security to avoid. It's just fun if relatively basic on some level. But I found the combat to be incredibly fair. I only died if I made a mistake or I was overwhelmed by an enemy (Because I'd brought the wrong mercs to the battle in the first place usually). The combat is not hard or ever annoying but you can die. That's exactly what combat should be. At least if you just want to have fun without swearing at the screen a lot. I found two recurring bugs. Couldn't pick up the loot crates in the raid for loot crates missions (Well I could but it wouldn't register I had) And couldn't fight the bird guys without a freeze half way through waiting the next enemy turn. But no crashes at all and it plays fine. I would definitely say it would be fantastic if there was more content at some point or dlcs. But this game is selling for under £12 which I'd say is an absolute bargain.
So far so good! Its a bit difficult and I had XCOM on the mind but once I got xcom tactics out/ got better skilled I am actually enjoying this game a lot! Can't wait to see more! Edit: Just beat the campaign, planning on going through it again. After a lot of playtime I got used to the system and WOW once I understood overwatch and not overextending I fell in love! Takes adjustment but I really do like this game, hope they keep it up!
Unable to sell any items for some reason. Can no longer pay my crew so i cant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play the game
Game is great, got me engaged for a few hours until I came to a game breaking bug, I had my first bounty quest and it never completes, I hunt the scientist and then the quest marker remains there, if I go back to the station the quest shows as in progress and I can kill the scientist multiple times but the quest is never completed. after so long in early access why would you release the game with a huge bug like this? if you fix this, I may change my review, because the game seemed nice until this frustrating bug. Edit: they fixed the bug, great dev response. changing to positive :)
Recommended! Similar to XCOM if you like this sort of game
