About
Void Grimm is a really unique indie game: A real-time roguelike deckbuilder in space! Command your ship and defeat your foes in furious space battle by playing powerful cards.
Challenge yourself with the fast-paced action and enjoy the rush of adrenaline - or use the active pause system to give yourself a break, if you want more time for strategic planning during the fights.
You are the commander of a powerful spaceship that can hold the most destructive weapons and advanced battle systems. In the beginning the armament is quite basic, but as you progress you will find more cards to upgrade your arsenal and recruit crew members that will further improve your combat capabilities.
The vast power at your command is bitterly needed as you will encounter deadly waves of enemies. If they manage to break your shield and destroy your armor the run is over.
Even if you are defeated, each run provides you with research points that you can use to unlock more features for future runs.
You can choose from three different ships (with two loadouts each), six heroes, various perks and multiple difficulty levels. These options as well as many interesting cards provide a lot of fun, interesting and challenging runs.
Your arsenal of weapons and battle systems is represented by a deck of cards. The cards in your hand can be played again and again, when their cooldown is finished, until they run out of ammo and need to be discarded, which reloads them. When you've discarded a card you automatically draw a new one.
You can discard to get rid off unwanted cards and draw into something that you need.
Choosing to play or discard your cards is an important part of the strategy. Some cards have strong synergies and when played after another will maximize your damage, but depending on the state of battle you might want to throw away promising combinations to draw quickly into skills that recharge your shield and avoid your destruction.
After each battle and in various events you are given the chance to pick from a collection of cards to enhance your deck.
In markets on space station you can remove cards to streamline your deck.
It's up to you to find a good balance between optimization and versatility.
Removing a card costs money and you need to choose wisely as there are various other ways to spend it.
On your journey through space, you can recruit officers, who will improve your ship's capabilities and aid you in combat.
They are quite powerful, but you can only have six active officers at the same time. A smart team composition is key for your success.
Some will help you directly by increasing your damage output or boost your defenses, others provide long-term benefits like repairs between battles, higher money rewards or discounts at shops, where you can upgrade your ship even further or delete cards to optimize your deck.
No deck is perfect to solve all problems. You have to adapt to the different waves of enemies. Some are heavily armored, others do high damage or support their allies by boosting their combat capabilities or healing them. Lastly there are the money carriers, which give you a cool money reward, if you manage to destroy them quickly enough. Prioritizing enemies is important.
You can overcome high armor with strong attacks or reduce armor with "armor breaker" skills. When you "mark" enemies, each one of your attacks against them will be increased, turning your multi-hit skills into devastating attacks.
Like other roguelikes Void Grimm is intended to be played multiple times. Each run is different as you draw different cards as rewards and encounter different officers.
A good commander adapts his strategy based on the tools at hand and the circumstances he encounters.
Various difficulty settings allow you to play the game at your own pace, from the relaxed "easy" to the very challenging "insane".
Before a run you can select your ship and hero as well as "perks" that change your performance in various ways. (Many items require research, which is the meta progression of this game.)
In a run you can choose your path on the map. Do you want to fight regular enemies that give card rewards or the tricky champions that drop powerful artifacts? Will you go into the dungeons to fight for loot? Or the random encounters?
Thanks to many significant choices you can shape your run immensely. A lot of fun and rewarding replayability.
The game is in Early Access and more features will be added over time.
Since The Foundation Update most of the major game mechanics are included in Void Grimm: Map modes, various bosses, different heroes, upgrade items, meta progression and many more.

Very addictive card game! New content and patches keep coming! Visuals, music, SFX are on point and keep me motivated to finally beat the game on insane difficulty.
Void Grimm is a fast and unforgiving game that wants to challenge you with multiple decisions per second while the dramatic music keeps you engaged. An emotional and physical rollercoaster.
very cool game
Good game! But some plot, story, lore, and crew relationship will make it Great.
Not really for me. And I feels it’s not fully optimised. But I see really good promise on this game. If you want to see my First Look At video you can see it here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ct368LP4-yw
It feels overwhelming at first, when all the cards on are on cooldown and your enemy just melts your shield. But all you need to do is to take a deep breath, and familiarize yourself with the combat at the early levels. There is no chance you can lose the first 4 levels, the enemy don't deal enough damage to destroy your shield if you play it well. Each enemy does have one card that counters them hard. Though, you have to have some weapons that can melt enemy shield to win against the boss. So, I don't see much viable build to deal with the boss other than deck filled with Shield Recharge card and Armor Piercer cards. Enemies are quite varied and fairly balanced. Some can shut down your cards, some just have tanky armors, and others are just floating piggybank. They scale well into the late game. However, this game at the current build is not without flaws. My biggest complaint will be that the UI still needs some work. Some of the stylized UI are using dark color against a dark background, which makes it pretty hard to read at times. Then, when choosing which upgrade to take, the UI lacks some crucial information like the duration of "Money on Kill" card. Aesthetically speaking, all of the texts displaying numbers look like a placeholder for the final UI. But overall, this game does incredible job on combining what was two incompatible genres: intense real time combat and deckbuilding. It's definitely worth your time for a low price. I would like to see how the final version would be once it's fully finished!
Updated (2024): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jB8KBCVR2E --- It's fine, but I wouldn't come back to it unless certain features were added. https://youtu.be/1SPx_7ryuvA
CURRENT REVIEW AS OF 8/17/2024 A LOT HAS CHANGED. 1. Original comment of adding ships and RNG runs has been implemented or at least is part of an end goal! Shows unlockable content and content set for future plans and that has a bit of hope for me to see more to come! 2. Added more modifiers which does at more changes to runs! 3. Seems to be a story at this point and a system dedicated to factions but I haven't played enough to fully unlock them. Seems the game is gearing more towards longterm replayability and faction building per-run. 4. Lasers got a buff...Previously they were hotdog water and while they are 1-turn-and-burn they do a fair bit of respectable damage! 5. Upon my original review in 2022 they did not impliment a way to autofire the cards with low damage but super short cooldown.....Wish they did because if you have two then you have to move to two sides of your hand back and forth to spam them whereas in other cards you just burn, wait, refresh, or reload them. 6. They added the ability to view your deck. This was not in the 2022 version. A HUGE improvement as are modifiers to REMOVE cards you picked that were ass because you misclicked or hate certain cards. 7. Music in one of the battles I had with the "Event" choice was VERY GOOD! 8. Has unlocks with progression for a skill tree to improve and gradually move further in the campaign AGAIN THIS IS NEW SINCE 2022 THIS WAS A MASSIVE UPDATE! You get them from each run...Kinda like achievement points to sink into the tree to purchase perks you can slot in per run. These take what are called "Destiny Points" which are just the amount of points you can use. My damage upgrade took 6 and this shield upgrade I had too 6...I was two over as my cap at the time was 10....You get the picture. 9. So far it's actually kinda fun. Previously it seemed a bit too "Cellphone-y" to call it worth it since it does for a game like it have a bit of a pretty penny for the content it had in 2022. It didn't have really any replayability and it's unlocks were non existant. I had the bones but no meat. Now I can currently see where it's heading and it looks fun! NOW FOR RECOMMENDATIONS WITH NEW UPDATE SO FAR! 1. Give me a perk to let the Autoguns.....Automatically Gun....I do not like clicking them repeatedly. 2. Please allow me to click the ship not just the name of the ship to target them....This made me burn a armor shot against a little drone.....Like sinking -6 armor on a 150hp enemy when the 5.7k ship right there was the one I wanted. 3. Make the introduction to the game explain how to discard them better. Rather than right clicking can you make it a left click option and a button on the card saying "RELOAD" to click instead? This is an ask since this seems to not be the route you want to take but making it an option if it's not too much trouble would help! 4. I ran into an enemy with unlimited health or a broken healthbar...Twice....Not sure how that happened. >> Image captured. It had "NaN/322 +112 HP" https://i.imgur.com/TfDADqR.png 5. Game needs a bit easier UI. It's a bit cluttered. Simplify! Make it smaller and specify when focusing on the card what to upgrade! 6. Please tell us why we can't upgrade new cards we get! I can only upgrade the basic cards not like my Cannon or the Torpedo... 7. I ran into an issue where nothing was explained. This has happened before....The guns stopped firing or working. All my cards were red. Nothing I clicked worked. I tried this while cycling shields for about 40 seconds. Nothing fired. I was just resetting shields to the tune of it shooting me and the fight would have gone on as long as I refreshed shields....So softlocked technically. https://i.imgur.com/pgXhvn3.png 8. IF 7 IS AN INTENDED EFFECT TELL ME WHY IT HAPPENS!! GIVE ME A FLASHING WARNING OR A WAY TO FIX IT! Reloading cards did nothing! Other than that I will change my information as I play more at this time or with more updates!
