About
Void Grimm is a really unique indie game: A real-time roguelike deckbuilder in space! Command your ship and defeat your foes in furious space battle by playing powerful cards.
Challenge yourself with the fast-paced action and enjoy the rush of adrenaline - or use the active pause system to give yourself a break, if you want more time for strategic planning during the fights.
You are the commander of a powerful spaceship that can hold the most destructive weapons and advanced battle systems. In the beginning the armament is quite basic, but as you progress you will find more cards to upgrade your arsenal and recruit crew members that will further improve your combat capabilities.
The vast power at your command is bitterly needed as you will encounter deadly waves of enemies. If they manage to break your shield and destroy your armor the run is over.
Even if you are defeated, each run provides you with research points that you can use to unlock more features for future runs.
You can choose from three different ships (with two loadouts each), six heroes, various perks and multiple difficulty levels. These options as well as many interesting cards provide a lot of fun, interesting and challenging runs.
Your arsenal of weapons and battle systems is represented by a deck of cards. The cards in your hand can be played again and again, when their cooldown is finished, until they run out of ammo and need to be discarded, which reloads them. When you've discarded a card you automatically draw a new one.
You can discard to get rid off unwanted cards and draw into something that you need.
Choosing to play or discard your cards is an important part of the strategy. Some cards have strong synergies and when played after another will maximize your damage, but depending on the state of battle you might want to throw away promising combinations to draw quickly into skills that recharge your shield and avoid your destruction.
After each battle and in various events you are given the chance to pick from a collection of cards to enhance your deck.
In markets on space station you can remove cards to streamline your deck.
It's up to you to find a good balance between optimization and versatility.
Removing a card costs money and you need to choose wisely as there are various other ways to spend it.
On your journey through space, you can recruit officers, who will improve your ship's capabilities and aid you in combat.
They are quite powerful, but you can only have six active officers at the same time. A smart team composition is key for your success.
Some will help you directly by increasing your damage output or boost your defenses, others provide long-term benefits like repairs between battles, higher money rewards or discounts at shops, where you can upgrade your ship even further or delete cards to optimize your deck.
No deck is perfect to solve all problems. You have to adapt to the different waves of enemies. Some are heavily armored, others do high damage or support their allies by boosting their combat capabilities or healing them. Lastly there are the money carriers, which give you a cool money reward, if you manage to destroy them quickly enough. Prioritizing enemies is important.
You can overcome high armor with strong attacks or reduce armor with "armor breaker" skills. When you "mark" enemies, each one of your attacks against them will be increased, turning your multi-hit skills into devastating attacks.
Like other roguelikes Void Grimm is intended to be played multiple times. Each run is different as you draw different cards as rewards and encounter different officers.
A good commander adapts his strategy based on the tools at hand and the circumstances he encounters.
Various difficulty settings allow you to play the game at your own pace, from the relaxed "easy" to the very challenging "insane".
Before a run you can select your ship and hero as well as "perks" that change your performance in various ways. (Many items require research, which is the meta progression of this game.)
In a run you can choose your path on the map. Do you want to fight regular enemies that give card rewards or the tricky champions that drop powerful artifacts? Will you go into the dungeons to fight for loot? Or the random encounters?
Thanks to many significant choices you can shape your run immensely. A lot of fun and rewarding replayability.
The game is in Early Access and more features will be added over time.
Since The Foundation Update most of the major game mechanics are included in Void Grimm: Map modes, various bosses, different heroes, upgrade items, meta progression and many more.

Deckbuilder – Check Roguelike – Check Realtime – Check Strategy - Check Spacebattles - Check Bossfights – Check Welcome to VOID GRIMM. To be honest, this Game came out of nowwhere and got me by surprise. I like Science Fiction, i like Space Battles and VOID GRIMM delievers it in a newway for me. The most Deckbuilder Games i saw and played are Fantasystyle, but sitting in a Spaceship and battling incoming enemy Ships with Cards was new to me. So after Installing i was very excited about it. But first please keep in Mind, this Game is Early Access and the Developer, thanks for inviting me to your Spacetrip, told me of what is coming next and you, dear Reader can be sure that there ismuch more to come. The Startingscreen is guided by a nice Music that perfectly hits the Atmosphere of VOID GRIMM. There is a very nice done Tutorial that leads you into the Easy Gameplay. The Mission is simple. You have to destroy attacking Ships with Cards. You have a Shield Bar and when this is down it goes to your Health Bar. If this goes to Zero…KABOOOM!!! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2679114315 Your Opponents attack in Waves. After each Wave you can choose Cards to give your Deck more effectiveness. From Time to Time you are also entering a Shop where you can recruit Crewmembers with Special Abilities and you can also upgrade your Ship, giving more Shield and Health or more Damage and more. You get money for it by destroying Ships. To the Battle. You have different Cards from supporting to attacking Cards. You can have 6 Cards at one Time to use. Interesting and nice done Part is, that some Weapon Cards have Ammunition. How much is shown by little Stars. If they are gone, you should fastly get rid o fit to gain a new one, which goes easy by one click. You can buff your Weapons with other Cards by having more damage over short Times by combining different abilities. Try out and find best combinations. Supporting Cards allow you for example to recharge your Shields or reload ammunition. At first going it was wild clicking for me, because of Realtime but i fastly found out that this is not the effective way. Here comes the Strategy into the Game. The attacking Ships have also special Abilities. For Example there is a Healer Ship that heals all other Ships but not himself, so it hast o be taken out first. Another bad Ship disables your Cards. You can have 5 Ammunition on a Card, that guy takes it in one second and your Weapon is empty. Another One gives other Ships Strengh and that hurt, when they attack, especially when the attacking Ship has a name liker Berzerker. And did i mention the Bossfights? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2679114021 Yeah these guys are really tough, but not unbeatable. Give them timegoing Damage like from Acid Cards and it is going easier to defeat them. This Game may be fast, but it gives you Time to plan your Strategy. Well done. By the Way, if you like to have a look at the Gameplay, then have a Look at Ajays Clip. He took his Time and played VOID GRIMM for you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0-5IjTVzPI Back to the Review. The Graphics are really nice and i like the Sound, both giving a very good Science Fiction Atmosphere. As said before it is early Access and momently you can choose a Difficulty and fight Waves with Endbosses. On Difficulty Hard and Insane you can also reach Special Bosses over a Challenge Button in the Shop. A Map Mode is planed and also Achievements as far as i know. VOID GRIMM is an amazing and addicting Cardbuilder Game Game that i can highly recommend. It is pure fun and i decided to follow this Game now, beeing excited for its way in Future. I will also from time to time update this Review. Thanks to the Developer, you have created a nice and unique Pearl, i wish you much success with your Game. And thank YOU for Reading.
I made a let's play checking out the game :) https://youtu.be/MxkLUr-rdjA
Super promising game that absolutely has the potential to be the next big roguelike. The game is so freaking satisfying and unique. Can't wait for more content as I must be a legend cuz I beat all the content in like an hour. Would love for their to be unlocks, ascension levels, more randomized modes and more. Gonna be following up with the game.
Game is way too short and easy. You can clear all difficulties in less than 1h.
Void Grimm truly is the very definition of early access: It clearly advertises all the parts of itself that are broken or in progress each time you complete a runthrough. So why am I recommending it? Because I keep on doing runthroughts. The real-time nature of the card battle adds a unique (aka stressful) twist to the deckbuilt roguelite genre that is refreshing. I'm definitely holding on to this one and planning on dipping in and out over the years as this little gem receives updates!
I love the mix of strategy and action in Void Grimm. There is an active pause system that allows you to play the weapons and queue commands, which keeps the game fun, even when there are multiple enemies with various strengths and weaknesses. The meta progression offers a lot of interesting rewards to unlock new playstyles.
The starship combat adventure game Void Grimm released a demo many moons ago as a test bed for its unique real-time card-based combat system. It was different - a curious peek at a more frenzied rather than relaxed Slay The Spire sci-fi contest. Had potential. The developer has now released a massive update that in Early Access adds a host of aspects and features - listed in the update - that make Void Grimm a fine companion to the anticipated Breachway, so far the standard to meet in this ship genre. You will eventually (!) choose a captain (there are multiples) to provide certain ability cards for your deck. Following is choice of ship (there are multiples) that provide you with peculiar card decks to start with. Heroes can be collected (there are multiples) that form a pool from whence you assign to your ship, each providing noticeable bonuses to ship traits. As with Slay The Spire'a'likes, you can collect equipment, Heroes, and weapon cards as you advance along mission trees. Factions will play a role eventually, beyond currently offering more valuable Heroes for your crew. And throughout a run, you collect resource towards persistent upgrades for further runs... a MUCH welcome aspect to these games. In combat, cards are first drawn from your deck to give you a full hand. You choose which enemy vessel is the active recipient of your coming attack card play. Each card may have infinite use and a cooldown before you can click it again, or a limited usage, with cooldown, before needing to be reloaded, which you do by returning the card to your deck. When you re-draw the card, it is reloaded. To dismiss a card back to your deck, you right-click it. You can generally dismiss up to 2 cards per period of time. Alternately you can play a card that dismisses your entire hand, drawing a new one. This may sound a little strange, but in real-time it is very engaging. Adding a meter-based replenishing time-slow mechanic enhances this system. It is fun. Void Grimm is in EA now, with more to come. A Kickstarter offers additional avenues of support for this developer, who has proven worthy. The full game should be good...
It has potential. I would like to give a recommendation but I just can't right now. The tutorial is very lacking, I encountered mechanics in game that I was totally clueless about after doing the tutorial. I k now it is in development and I am sure this will change, but I am just commenting on what it is NOW and what it is currently like to play. Maybe after some more time I will retry it and see how it is coming along. Like I said, it has potential, a lot of it actually, if it is executed well.
Awesome game, very fluid and fun to play. Good price, recommended.
