Voice of the Ocean is a single-player adventure about a lost world, and the echoes of a forgotten past. Use your voice to sing ancient melodies and explore a world lost beneath the waves. Dive into the depths to uncover the power within your song and learn why you may be the last of your kind.

About

You've just come into a world already in ruins. You don't know who you are, and there's no one to tell you. Perhaps you are the last of your kind. It’s up to you, and the strength of your voice and fins, to piece together the past. Sing the forgotten songs, and uncover the echoes of a sunken, broken civilization.
Voice of the Ocean is the beginning of a single-player adventure where you will have to sing and swim. You will be a newborn mermaid, diving through ruins and looking for pieces of a long lost mural.
In the game you will:

Use your voice to navigate the depths. Sing the melodies of your lost civilization, brought to life through an original score composed exclusively for the game by Jaime Fenoy Aguilera.
You will have to hit the correct pitch using your voice, to charm fishes, move objects and sing the songs of the mermaids.

Dive into a forgotten world beneath the waves, with a traditional oil painting style brought to 3D. Swim through a vivid, impressionistic seascapes, poisoned by an uncertain past. You will be able to swim through ruins, buildings and areas reclaimed by nature.

Part of the story of your people lies scattered across the deep. Unstructured and half-buried in a world that has forgotten it. Find the audio logs and the lost mural to reconstruct the past.

This game was created over the course of 11 weeks by third-year bachelor students from Howest - Digital Arts & Entertainment, with the invaluable contribution of our original soundtrack composer, Jaime Fenoy Aguilera as well as our animator Maxine Desmet. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our coordinators, Alex Vanden Abeele and Tristan Clarysse, for their support and trust in our vision.

Completed the little bit of so far released and it's a cool concept with a pretty environment and premise for a game. Steam suggest playing with a keyboard but the experience inst terrible without one. My game didn't crash so i got lucky and the only complaint I have so far in development is that the controls screen in the setting doesn't have a UI prompt to go back.
This didn't work well for me at all. I was talking to my parents and it recognised that as completing sound objectives which doesn't really immerse you into the idea you're meant to be harmonising. On top of that the wavering on the voice monitor jumping up and down as if i was scaling up and down with voice when i wasn't just really threw me. Good concept but it just failed to reach the idea of what should be happening. I have a top mid range computer and a top of the range headset so i know my mic wasn't the issue.

Gorgeous and interesting, Voice of the Ocean exists as little more than a proof of concept at the moment. The main pitch mechanic does work and is plenty forgiving in its current incarnation. Though I do have little hope one with as limited musical inclination as myself would be able to progress much further along its eventual difficulty curve. There's really only one sunken building to explore, with a couple of audio logs also scattered around the ruined city outside of it. The content of the logs presents an enticing narrative, seemingly voiced by the student developers themselves. I don't know if Voice of the Ocean will continue past its current state, but it's plenty charming and intriguing as it is now.
Very interesting concept, with some improvements to the pitch recognition on non-perfect microphone set ups there is a very interesting game on your hands. I really enjoyed the game. It isn't clear how using the puffer fish to block the pipes, and that should be shown to the player as a mini-tutorial potentially. Im still not sure how to open your setting menus however. I like it however, and have not interacted with a game in the way you do with your microphone.
the screen kept flashing red and i couldnt see anything i also couldnt pick which mic the game was using. this was especially a headache.
A very interesting new type of play using sound mic. Almost plays with keyboard, but can't operate the puzzle so I'm stuck. Right now it has to have a controller only. Also no way to invert the mouse for first person, so I can't play without getting sick.
definitely different, but it's in the ocean so I like it.
