Viscera Cleanup Detail

Between my 2 accounts and the DLC packs, I've put upwards of 175 hours into this game. VCD is one of my favorite games to casually play while listening to something in the background. Gameplay and progression-wise, it can be extremely annoying and poorly thought out, however. In the 10 years I've had my office, one of the story-based/collectible letters from my office disappeared, and I had to deal with resetting my office and save swapping and console commands to get a replacement back into my main save. You can clean a level top to bottom, and then clock out, and the game will give you some snarky BS about how some dumbass NPC choked to death on a shell casing that didn't exist. While I normally burn every box and barrel, I only learned from watching 2 speed run videos that horizontally placed barrels will penalize you. It's this type of cryptic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that can make this game very annoying to play. The "Sniffer" will alert you to a seemingly nonexistent mess, and if you're trying to get 100% in a level, you can waste an extra hour mopping everything and walking around with the sniffer trying to figure out what nonexistent piece of soot or ♥♥♥♥ or blood it's trying to alert you to. I've played VCD with 1 - 3 friends, and I find the game substantially more enjoyable with more people. It allows you to clean faster, and collaborate, such as assigning jobs or tasks. Such as putting one person on furnace duty, another on buckets, bins, mopping, and so on. If you're interested for the sake of a therapeutic cleanup game, VCD is the best. If you're an achievement hunter, I'd recommend looking into the achievements first, to make some sort of a roadmap. This is so you're not having to deal with save swapping as I had to, or having to replay large, 3-hour par time levels over again for a single letter. Even using console commands to breeze through it, I still had to keep exiting without saving 'cause the "kill nearest non/mess" commands kept deleting my janitor's trunk and Bob's letters. While one of the developers suggested resetting the office in a Steam thread asking if somebody had a save file with the office letter, even doing that doesn't actually reset the office properly. It simply merged all of the default trash with my collectibles and turned my office into a dumpster fire. Being able to take collectible items from levels to decorate your office is one of my personal favorite aspects of the game as well. Each level is littered with detritus and scenery objects, all of which can be taken back to the office and used to decorate to your heart's content. It can essentially act as a chronicling of your cleanings, and I appreciate that touch from the developers.
