Viking Heroes 3
Casual game of 2022. The four Vikings are invited to a feast of the gods as a reward for their heroic deeds. You deserve it after part 1+2. However, the rainbow bridge to Asgard breaks along the way. Will you still make it to Valhalla? You can guess, yes you should repair the bridge. Embark on an epic adventure and save your world of gods. To do this, you must mine raw materials and remove obstacles. Be smart because time is short. The game not only offers the whole program of actions that were already in the predecessors, but you also have to align a lot of mirrors to complete the 65 levels. As an extra for relaxation there are some mahjong games in between. If that's what you want. Oh yes, almost forgot. Collect owls as before. For what reason? well because they are there. While I'm pondering what to do with all the owls from the three games, I recommend the game to you and probably bring the owls back to Athens in ancient times. Have fun. Viking Heroes 3 is a time management game developed by Yustas Games Studio and published by Alawar Entertainment. It's the latest game in the Viking Heroes series. Like in the previous games, you take on the roles of the brothers Everand and Boromere and the sisters Helga and Brunnhilde. This time, the heroes have been invited by the Norse gods to a feast in their honor, which the heroes happily accept. However, upon arriving in Asgard, they discover that the rainbow bridge, which connects the different worlds to Asgard, has been destroyed. If the heroes are unable to restore the bridge, the worlds will become unstable. Thus, they must travel to different worlds and recover particular artifacts that will help repair the bridge. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. As for the gameplay, Viking Heroes 3 has the same gameplay mechanics as in the previous games in the series. There are a total of 50 levels with 15 bonus levels that are unlocked upon completion of the main story. You can choose among three difficulty levels: easy, normal, or hard. (For purposes of this review, I chose to play on normal mode.) In each level, you're given a number of tasks, such as fighting off enemies and constructing buildings, and assuming that you play on timed mode, you can earn up to three stars, depending on how quickly you complete all of the tasks. Boosters, such as time freeze and run faster, are unlocked as you progress. In addition, the usual mahjong solitaire type levels are back, which are unlocked after completing a certain number of levels. Of course, there are the usual Steam/in-game achievement as well although no Steam trading cards at the time of this review. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. I've enjoyed the Viking Heroes series for quite a while now, so I tend to look forward to the latest release. First, I'll start by commenting on the story. There's a short scene in which we find the heroes at home when Heimdall, who works for the Norse gods, approaches them about the banquet invitation. Then we're taken to Asgard and immediately find out that the rainbow bridge has been destroyed. However, it's a mystery as to who the culprit is. I like how the story starts off, and it doesn't feel too dragged down, which is a positive since this is gameplay-focused. Next, I'll move onto the gameplay. For those familiar with the other games in the series, it'll feel repetitive, as the game doesn't add any new gameplay mechanics. However, the game runs smoothly, and I didn't encounter any technical issues. If I have to point out any negatives, this will be more of a personal bias. One complaint I have is that there are a few too many levels that focus on unlocking and rotating the crystal mirrors to emit light beams. Now, I understand that this is to find the artifacts. However, knowing which direction to change the crystal mirrors to in order for them to correctly emit light beams in certain directions felt like a guessing game to me. Unless you have a detailed walkthrough, this can feel difficult. Also, a few of the levels felt really difficult to complete to earn 3 stars. As I mentioned earlier, I played this game on normal mode, so this isn't a good sign when I found myself struggling. Of course, I was eventually able to overcome this hurdle, but it was a bit exhausting and tedious. As for the art style, it's the same as in the previous games, so there isn't anything new to comment. It's in the usual colorful, cartoony style, which I felt is very appropriate for this kind of game. In regards to the soundtrack, there aren't any new track, either. Of course, the tracks that are present depict that adventurous theme very well. However, I would have liked for there to have been one or new tracks to add a bit of variety. Overall, would I recommend Viking Heroes 3? If you enjoy time management games and especially like the Viking Heroes series, this is worth checking out. Despite the few issues I had with it, overall, I enjoyed the game. Hopefully, if there's another game in the series, the difficulty for the levels will be more balanced. For the asking price, I'd say it's worth getting, but you can always wait to get it on sale, and it's in a few bundles on Steam as well. ^^
Flying free and writing reviews solely for The Introverted Gamer.
I give this a pinkie-finger up. It doesn't get a down because it works without bugs and all achievements are doable and possible, plus the game itself no longer cares if you find the hidden object owl that's not well hidden on every few levels. Plus the overarching story was coherent and wasn't lazy (eg Loki was framed by the actual villain) and there were some innovative laser-beam puzzles. But i found the game tedious and I'm not sure I'll ever replay it, the way I might replay Viking Brothers 3 or Viking Uncles 5 or Viking Cousins 43. Or Viking Neighbors 22 or Viking Navy Detectives 37. I think the game is just not balanced very well, and suffers from the same problems as Viking Astronauts 14 and Viking Newspaper Reporters 29, though it still remains better than the serie's low-water mark, the ineptly written Jane Jensens' Viking Antique Dealers.
Wunderbar, wie immer! Tolle Serie. Darf in keiner Sammlung fehlen. Fazit: kaufen, kaufen, kaufen!
time management game, just as good as all the others
I like resource management games, always have. Occasionally, you get a frustrating level but you keep trying, even finding a video online to help you. Not here. And I'm not willing to compromise difficulty modes just to "pass." I'm all for a challenge but floundering around repeatedly, adjusting this, collecting that only to find you still don't have enough of some resource and then having that cuckoo timer go off over and over again sucks all the fun out of what would otherwise be a pretty enjoyable game. Don't get me wrong: it's cute. And Normal mode is def. doable. But in Hard mode, it's downright annoying. Better luck next time, I guess.
This is a casual time management game where you need to complete 50 levels to unlock all the achievements. It takes about 11 hours to complete the game and unlock all the achievements. Most achievements are unlock by just playing the game. The art style and gameplay is really nice and it is a nice way to waste some time while you are waiting on something else.
