Saints Row 3-4
I paid $2 for this and while I don't expect much for that price I do expect a functioning title, the game crashed on the last story level and I apparently lost all of my progress to that point. What I did manage to play, I have a luke-warm reaction to, games that chase after this same or simmilar aesthetic exist and they do it better, Tron 2.0 Tank Universal 1 and 2 Black Ice all of those do a better job of what this game sets out and falls short of Again though I was willing to overlook such things until the game crashed and I lost all of my unlocked story levels.
This game kicks serious ass! ..But don't expect to pay attention to anything else while you are playing! Highly recommended! I scored this game at a 99% overall, and this won a Zaxtor's Hidden Gem award on my Youtube channel livestream on January 15, 2020.
I bought it, I played it, I didn't like it. I reviewed it, and I think you should buy BattleZone VR Gold Instead (it plays on PC, non VR, just fine)
Vektor Wars is an older game from 2015. It's a venerable 9 years old at the time of this review. While it looks like an arcade shoot 'em up, it's actually a first person arena shooter with an arcade theme, as you blast various low poly robots with a variety of weapons. There's some work done in the variety of weapons and pickups but the overall game design is shallow and unambitious, and it must be remembered that games don't exist in a vacuum. Even when this launched in 2015 it had to compete with Rainbow Six Siege, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood and Battlefield Hardline, and in all of those games the developers knew how to put textures on polygons (one might even call that a minimum requirement where game development is concerned in the 21st century). In this game, however, all you do is move around a blocky map and shoot stuff... it's directionless, and it's a great reminder why video games became more complex in terms of narrative since Space Invaders. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features lazy minimalist/untextured low-polygon "retro" assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It looks bad as a result of their decisions, and that's just another reason to avoid it. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 7 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Vektor Wars has the cash grab price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Rust", "Far Cry 5" or "Project Zomboid". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
I picked up this game a few days after the first version was released in 2015. To this day (in 2019), it's one of the best game purchases I've made. If you're looking for simple and fun arcade action without the contrivances found in many modern games (grindy leveling systems, loot crates, etc.), then Vektor Wars may be good pick for you. If, on top of that, you like the vector graphics aesthetic found in classic games like Battlezone, then this game is a fantastic choice. In addition to fast arcade action and stylish vector graphics, the game features great sound effects and a cool retro/synth soundtrack. I love the fact that I can jump in for a quick round or settle in and play the game for an extended period. As a casual gamer, I also like the fact that the game works well on older hardware (I typically play on a machine with an Intel Core i7-3770K processor, using the built-in Intel HD Graphics 4000). I would be remiss if I didn't mention the dedication of the developers. They are responsive to the fans, and they posted multiple updates/fixes based on fan feedback. Additionally, over 4 years after the game launched, they posted a major update. It's great to see this level of respect for the fans. TLDR: What you see is what you get with Vektor Wars. If the video and the screenshots look appealing, I'd definitely recommend giving it a whirl. I've had a lot of fun with this game over the years.
I could't find a game that was on my A E S T H E T I C Level. So after drinking 3 can's of Arizona Iced Tea, i found this game, after playing 20 minutes of it, i became a Fiji Bottle and flew away.
