This game is linear, meaning that you can only play the game one way. You cannot store healing stones, if you drop them to be recharged, it will only charge one stone and you lose the rest. Recharge stations are rare. There is no map to the dungeons, so you are required to remember every where you have been. There is no save feature, unless you exit the game, and then you have to restart that dungeon over again. Once you pass a check point, you cannot go back, so if you miss something important you are just screwed. You meet your first human in the library about 5 hours in. Though the game will not allow you to drain her, turn her, or even seduce her. Overall the controls work great. The graphics are not too bad, but could be better. The biggest problem though is that you cannot save your game and that it is linear.
I received Vampirem for free from WRF Studios and they asked me to stream it. One look at Vampirem I was like, "Wow!" so I agreed. After my playthrough I suggested another input for Dodge instead of double tapping the direction and WRF Studios implemented it the next day. I love how passionate a solo developer can be and how in-tune they are within their game's community and how they look after it. I am writing an HONEST review.
TL;DR
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Vampirem
has a nice thorough tutorial/guide. Kinda gets in the way a bit. Instead of it pausing the game, the guide should be small in the center top or center bottom of the screen to help you while you're in combat. A few times I was in combat, it paused and when I exited the guide's help I got hit after it unpaused. Otherwise, you will instantly get into the game with the help of the guide.
Graphics
are quite good for Vampirem and what the game is about. No problem with graphics whatsoever. FPS was jumpy here and there (first time load?) but fixed itself seconds later.
Story
is decent, not too bad. However, the voice acting is SUPER good. I was very impressed how the voice acting was. Comparatively to other games with higher budgets that have worse voice acting, Vampirem set a high standard in that regards.
Sound
isn't bad! Skills, spells, battles and such, it plays very well within Vampirem. I didn't have any issues whatsoever with sound other than your weapons, if close to a wall the sound would all jumble together, but that's not a big deal at all.
Gameplay
is REALLY good! Takes a bit to get in to but once you get the hang of skills and such, you're going to fly through levels owning everything. I love how exploration is important to get better items to progress better within the game. The RPG element plays a good part because items are important, especially for survivalbility.
Mechanics
are great! Bosses, dodging, skills, battles, etc were amazing and I had lots of fun with the game's mechanics, especially the different stones in your inventory (once looted).
RPG Element
is very easy to get into. Inventory, perks, skills, spells, etc are very well done. When leveling and unlocking a skill you can actually tell it's changing your character unlike most games. Progressing end-game to see how powerful your character can get would be insane to see. I had no problems with anything. Finding secret rooms, finding gear or special loot is a cool feature too! Especially when it can help get you really good items down the road. Inventory isn't hard to manage but it can get cluttered; however, it's important that it is cluttered.. you'll see. The Blood Stone mechanic is REALLY GOOD TOO! Life is important, survival is important and it's an awesome challenge to save your healing stones or use them at right times. Oh, and puzzles! I love 'em!
Level Design
is very well done. Exploration, special objects or passages make it fun to explore and stay in certain areas to make sure you've explored everything. Very well-made levels during the story too.
AI
can be a tad bit of an annoyance, especially bosses. You can't really tell when they'll attack and the time between their attacks are very fast so it's hard to tell when they'll hit again for you to dodge. Not sure if it's an animation thing or it's messing up. For example, bosses can be a hard challenge only because time between their attacks are fast; so, going up to them and meleeing isn't a good idea. Normally I just run around bosses in circles, dodge out, rinse and repeat. If a boss attacked and it had a longer attack recovery animation for you to get hits in, that would be awesome! HOWEVER, don't let t his fool you. The AI is very intelligent and challenging in their own way and it's very fun. I loved every single fights in to because they were a challenge at times. Figuring out boss fights was my favorite thing about Vampirem.
End-Game
really impressed me. It's not repetitive AT ALL and I'm having a blast with how awesome my character is. I cannot wait to progress my character even further. I'm not going to spoil anything so that's all you'll get out of me, lol. Overall, I highly recommend Vampirem. WRF Studios is heading a good direction with their game, listening to their community and updating regularly. Their game and passionate mindset makes me actually like gaming in 2021, lol. Trust me, you won't regret it!
A very fun ARPG with a lot of neat systems like warping, really fun combat, great random level design and fun writing. WRF has done it again!
It is with a heavy heart that I have to say this. I admire this man so much but for this third game, it feels as if he tried to get rid of everything great in his previous two games, It feels like this was his first outing, and then he improved upon it to make the other two. Because: There are no outdoor areas anymore. In fact, the logic of an "area" is completely gone. There are no characters up on the surface to get quests and items from. There are no sewers, temples, water, anything like that that connects anywhere above ground. There is no choice in which dungeon you are going to go. Because the whole game is a bland labyrinth that keeps descending with no rhyme or reason. No choices, no clans, no dialogue. This could still make a great game if the mechanics of the dungeon crawling was as complex as the previous game, but all the skills and items are simplified as well. I never felt like I made a meaningful decision about gear. I'm not gonna refund just because I love his previous work so much and I want to believe he will build on this in the future. Yeah I know its a cheap game but why do this after releasing two masterpieces for the same price?
I like Vampirem, I played quite a bit of it, and plan to play much more. I recorded my progress. Please check it out here if you prefer a more Audio/Visual format: https://youtu.be/IOU2J_eytgc Anyway, Vampirem is an Indie, Action RPG Vampire Dungeon Crawler, where you must Fight your way out of your tomb, or Die your Final Death! In Vampirem, you are Part Ghost, Part Vampire, and All Awesome! Ghost Vampirem says Boo? Blaaa? Boloaaaa? YES! Engage in Intense 3rd person Action, as you collect Randomly Generated Loot from the corpses of your dark foes, raiding the treasures of the lost vampire age to gain Power, and bolster your chances, as you traverse Unique and Procedurally generated areas in a bid to make your escape from your unjust imprisonment. All will Fear your Spooky, Thirsty Power! Dare you explore your Vampirem Thirst!? Did I mention the Eye Lasers?! Yes! Eye Lasers! Plus, when you Lvl up, you can put in your stats, like in Diablo, allowing you to customize your Vampire/Wraith/Ghost Your Way! Increase Strength to improve melee damage. Increase Dexterity to help avoid damage and lockpick. Increase Intelligence for more Essence (mana). Increase Vitality for More HP. It's always nice to see an RPG that understands that meaningful character customization is key for RPGs, especially combat focused ones. It's always surprising to me to see games that simply neglect that; It is good to see Vampirem understands its prey. 😈 While I do like the game, and I appreciate being able to put in your stats, more ability and feat choices on Lvl Up would make the character Feel even more like yours. For example, Eye Lasers are cool, but Wouldn't it be even cooler if you could get Talents to increase or change it, maybe turn it into a Laser Beam, literally, and perhaps even laterally😲, cutting foes apart with it, maybe at the cost of less explosive damage. A Focus on Precision over Raw Power. Or maybe have it fire slower, but with more force and maybe even a bit of a knock back. Eye Ball = FireBALL! 💥 Or maybe change the Summon to something else with different abilities? Or maybe even have it merge it with you! Form of Sparkles Mr. Shiny! 🌟🤩 Or maybe turn it into a fast Raven? Or a Big, Huge one that can't fly, but has a mean peck! Maybe even one you can mount?! 😲 that would be Fun. 👍 In short, more options to customize your special abilities would help the character Feel more unique, and provide more reasons to play through the game again. Additionally, I have some thoughts on The Blood Stones and Healing. On The Blood Stones and Healing: I will say that having to: 1) Physically find the Blood Stones, in order to 2) Then be able to use the essence, 3) Which you also have to find, in order to 4) Then finally Select and use the Heal skills, seems a bit much. It's not very intuitive, as you see the purple mana bar, and you click heal, but you do not heal. All the other abilities you have work when you have the purple juice, so why not heal? This decision clashes with the gameplay design of basing abilities off Essence, so let the abilities be fueled mostly off Essence. It Feels Frustrating in the heat of a boss battle. Not being able to heal when the Purple bar says you can. Yes, you get the big text message telling you why, but it still Feels off. I see that Heal must be limited in some way, otherwise the game turns into a kiting match as you slowly wear down your enemies, but Essence, as the Fuel for all your abilities, already serves that function. I like the Health Stone/ Blood Stone idea, I just think it shouldn't be so disposable. Makes it feel less important. And it is Very Important. It keeps our Bird Man Flying High. 👍 So maybe treat it as a constant, an Artifact of Power that must be charged via Essence, draining your Essence until it is Full, maybe have a little Blood Stone Bar beneath the HP Bar, It's Very Important to keep tract of, at least as important as the Essence, so it certainly is Bar worthy. Maybe have the physical stone displayed on the UI, up by the Hp and Essence, if you choose to stylize the UI a bit later. Have it grow brighter and redder as it is full, maybe even pulse slowly and slightly. Maybe when you kill a vampire or vampire like creature, and it drops its Blood Stone, you auto drain it into yours, as a Royal Creature Like yourself would NEVER sully yourself by using such a lowly creature's essence so directly! The Very Idea Is Offensive! 😤 It Must be Purified, cleansed of their Filthy, low-born Taint! And rendered fit for YOUR Royal Consumption. Only the Best for the Bird Man! 🍷 Of course, there is always loss with such conversions, but such is the price of greatness... Though, maybe strong creatures could permanently increase the pool of your Blood Stone, Maybe the Blood Stone physically grows as it does, maybe even granting additional powers?! This design would remove the tedium of having to physically find new Blood Stones, and reinforces their importance by rendering them non-disposable, making it more intuitive for the player, as they would see at a glance by looking up by their HP, knowing how much reserve healing they have in the bank, letting them know how much of a cushion they have left. I am curious to see what others think about this. Am I off base here? Anyway, Critiques and attempts to deepen the experience aside, I do enjoy Vampirem. It's Fun, and I lose track of time playing it, always a good sign.👍 In fact, I'd say it is the best sign of a Good Game. Watch and see if Vampirem is right for you?
Played the demo and it was great to start but i found the game lacked depth or true involvement. As a budget priced game I think it will do great but I won't be buying the final cut.
Basic Breakdown: Vampirem, developed and published by WRF Studios. A story told through the eyes of Ravenblood; a part ghost, part Vampire type creature with special abilities. You traverse through dangerous dungeons and venture on a journey of revenge and ass kicking. Graphics: I love the style of this game, it doesn't have to be hyper-realistic to be pretty and convey what it's trying to perfectly. The graphics being so streamlined makes it easy to run on even low end PC's and honestly, they suit the style of game really well. Soundtrack: This is the only part where I feel as though the game is lacking. It doesn't really have a soundtrack as such, more so a “ambient sounds”, which does work, but could be slightly more epic with the right music. Menu: Very simple, but has pretty much everything you need. Smooth and neat. Final Conclusion: Vampriem is a great game overall. A little clunky here and there, but once you get used to it, it feels a whole lot better. The enemy variation is really nice, dungeons can be a little difficult to navigate as they look pretty similar, but I'm also terrible at mapping so that doesn't help for me personally. The story is pretty decent, the characters are also pretty well written with some cheesy voice lines here and there that also suit keeping the game in a “not taking itself too seriously”. The fact this is made by one developer is honestly amazing and you can clearly see it was crafted with a lot of love and hard work. They're also absolutely lovely as a complete side note, I'm very glad I was given the opportunity to play this. All in all, if you like dungeon crawlers or hack-and-slash type games, this is for you.
Hello fans, having completed Vampirem yesterday I have to say I’m impressed. The game was developed by one person only but seems totally fleshed-out and bug free, and it is really funny to play. The story is not the longest, but for only 13€ more than OK. I highly recommend giving this game try, and the developer is really responsive and caring for constructive critics concerning this game. Gameplay is astonishingly fluid, it’s really funny guiding Raven trough the dungeons, warping around and slaying enemies. The warp skill reminded me of the good old Jedi Knight/Jedi Academy where you could use Force Jump to get to locations you would normally not and find great extras there. The only thing that felt odd and slowed the game play for me is the health/mana system here. Health is called blood, mana is called essence. Both does not regenerate naturally (there are items to regenerate your health up to a certain percentage of your max health, but we’ll get to this). Blood comes from finding and using blood stones and blood potions found from smashing urns and barrels. From the very same and after killing some enemies you find essence crystals which recharge your mana bar. You cannot use the blood stones directly, but you have to burn essence to convert blood into health using a special healing skill. The blood stones get emptied while doing so and need to be replaced or, in rare cases, refilled. Not bad in the first level, but gets worse as the game continues. After the first few dungeons, I found myself constantly low on essence AND blood. The fights in the game aren’t easy and even trash mobs can pack a hefty punch. Even if you have a filled blood stone but are low on essence, you cannot heal yourself. If you have full essence and plenty to spare in your inventory but have no blood stones, you cannot heal yourself. If you’re low on both, that’s where the fun starts. Using any of your skills takes essence, too. This leads (for me) to not using most of your (well-designed and useful) skills most of the times because you need every ounce of essence to keep your health up. While healing through blood stones and recharging your essence via crystals works well in the beginning, it does not in later levels… it seems to be based on raw numbers: while a certain amount in the beginning is enough for two complete refills, it will get you only 25% later as your max health and mana increase. I went to to a boss fight with 250 essence spare in my inventory and two epic blood stones and thought I was well-prepared, only to find out that the essence was enough for about one healing and left me without essence thereafter. For me it would feel better if a percentage would be refilled, not a raw number of points. During nearly every boss fight, I got completely depleted of both blood and essence, so no healing and no using skills at all, leaving single melee as the only option. While it its possible to regain essence (especially because after dying every urn/barrel has re-spawned) replacing blood stones is very difficult, so chances are high you go into round two against the boss with some or full essence but still no chance to heal. And during the story line, boss fights came in relatively quick succession, so I hadn’t recovered from the fight yet and had to fight another boss, with about 1/3 health and essence. Regeneration items are not that helpful… I had several of those equipped and reached 16% health regeneration, which gave me about 70 health. Not bad, kept me going vs. trash mobs, but was excactly one hit from most boss attacks. Combined with chronically empty essence bar, this leads to: rush in, melee once or twice, hope you’ll not get hit, repeat until either the boss or you are destroyed. A magelike playthrough with more casting and less melee seems to be impossible… there is no way you’d find and regain enough essence. I don’t know how to solve this, but the developer should think to get rid of blood stones completely. Healing skill should still take essence but no stones anymore. This way you still had to balance between healing or attacking, but at least you CAN heal if you got essence. Also, there should be better ways to regain essence. Loot from urns/barrels is totally random, so you can either find many crystals or not enough to keep you alive. Maybe essence should regenerate, at least until a certain amount (maybe depending on an unlockable skill in the skill tree? Raven is regaining his power during this journey, this could reflect this.). Or maybe items with regeneration should regenerate both health and essence, or there should be items with blood/essence steal on strike, not on kill. There is life-steal on some items but with +2 PER KILL it’s next to useless. Also, loot of anything not a ring or amulet could be more common. I found exactly one boot and one armor in the whole story. Weapons drops are bit better, but could also be more common. And please please please: town down the snakes! One single snake seems to hit harder than a boss, and a trap with three snakes often mean certain death if you're not with full health. These are just a few suggestions that the developer could think about to flesh out the game experience. To conclude: I had much fun playing Vampirem and can recommend it. It sometimes feels brutal and a bit rough at the edges, but it’s more than worth its cost.
This game is well done, it runs smooth and flows well. Has lots of loot to find with hidden areas on many levels. Enemies go from easy to oh ♥♥♥♥♥ run. Well worth the cost and lots of fun to play. If you like vampire style dungeon diving games don't miss out on this one.
This game was super fun with that spooky aura to it. If you love Dark Souls here's a perfect dupe with funny dialogue added to the mix! The puzzles are unique and not that hard. The fighting is neat and the monsters are definitely a challenge.
