A rather challenging but very fun retro space racer. You will need upgrades and practice to progress. Upgrades to simply make you stronger, but the practice allows you to predict and navigate around the fairly challenging AI racers and also find many little skips that can give the edge. Achievements are a great addition and don't seem to be out of the realm of obtainability. Although untested by me, split screen co-op is available, which is only lacking in so many other racing games.
Vagnerun is an unusual hybrid of a top down shooter and a SuperSprint style arcade racer. There's a vague sci-fi theme as you control a kind of goofy hovertank and shoot/race your enemies around tracks, and there's elimination game modes and a progression/upgrade scheme... all of which is welcome of course but this is a game that feels like 90% of the development effort went into that and 10% went into visuals, graphics, game polish, game testing and design of the core gameplay... which falls in a heap faster than a hovertank can go around a track. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. This is really awkward to play and the visuals are offputting to say the least. Let's get into some of the basic reasons this game and games like it never do well on Steam. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features lazy low-polygon looking "retro" pixelesque assets. The backdrops look 2D retro pixel, but the tanks are a kind of low poly rendered static image? Or just low poly... it's hard to tell. They flip about instead of rotating smoothly when you turn, making me think they're static images from a 3D render. Anyway, that makes this look like a barely functional game from the early 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It looks bad as a result of their decisions, worse, it doesn't authentically recreate the 1990's vibe the developer is hoping people will accept instead of doing their job properly, and that's just another reason to avoid it. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Vagnerun didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Planet Alpha", for race qualifying for the first race section, trivial to get, but less than 34 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam? Vagnerun has the almost unethical price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "Outlast", "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" or "Frostpunk". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Vagnerun could have been a memorable game in the 16-bit era.
I'll skip talking about the graphics and instead go straight to the gameplay, which is the most interesting part. Unlike other racing games, this one tries something different. I honestly didn’t expect much from it and almost didn’t buy it, but it ended up surprising me. Acceleration is automatic, and the vehicle, whether it's a ship, car, or something in between, turns in the direction you point using the analog stick or buttons. It feels confusing at first, but with a bit of practice, it starts to make sense. There's a jump button that plays a central role. You can skip sections of the track, avoid traps, or leap over obstacles, which at high speeds can be extremely satisfying as well as frustrating. Track design ranges from simple layouts to island chains that require you to jump between them, which adds variety. In the main mode, you can earn money to upgrade and repair your vehicle, as well as purchase weapons. However, weapons don’t play a major role. Until you purchase a new one, you’ll just fire small white dots that slow enemies down. If you enjoyed games like Rock & Roll Racing, Vagnerun might give you a similar vibe. It may not be the most visually appealing game at first glance (or second glance), but it has the potential to surprise, and it's actually fun, at least for me. Quite an interesting game in the spirit of old retro games. Interesting game mechanics of starship racing in combination with jumps that allow you to shorten the distance or jump over an obstacle creates a very interesting gameplay. Many different levels with various obstacles and bonuses. The survival mechanic creates a challenge because if the ship's life reaches 0, you lose all your progress. And the ship's health is carried over between races and needs to be constantly repaired. I do not recommend the elimination mode until you learn how to play, because the game will end almost immediately. But later it becomes quite an interesting mode for those who love the thrill of crossing the finish line when it may be your last. You can also play with a friend on 1 screen and compete with bots together or against each other. The advantages of the game include: -Quite interesting gameplay -The spirit of retro games -Survival mechanics -The ability to improve the ship -Quite sophisticated artificial intelligence The disadvantages include: -Controls that take some getting used to -The possibility of dying as soon as the race starts, because many ships behind you start shooting at you. -High level of difficulty because of which you will almost always come last in the beginning
i find it a funny arcade like game nice old skool rough like raceing. if u like a challenge this is the game for u.
I'm not good at this game but it's a good game, the jumping aspect of it is fun to play around with. I like how each competition builds up in complexity as you get used to the track :), it's simple but it's good.
Jogo que trás nostalgia, me remeteu muito aos jogos 2d de naves do nitendo e daynavision.
Relatively Challanging fun space racing game. if you like racing games with a retro style this is good pick!
