Less harem or even just plain romance than I was expecting. That's really neither good nor bad for me, but from what I was seeing online, I was expecting to be drowning on both. I found the main story gripping, and the slice of life events quite funny--for the most part. U&S are a rather tiresome pair. The battles are fairly easy, but there's some subtle strategy involved that isn't present in the early game, which is a huge plus for me. Better stuff than Prelude.

The game starts out incredibly slowly with little to no gameplay and mostly slice of life elements. That was quite the bummer and I felt it did drag on for too long and did too little. But once the story actually got going, it got really interesting. And the ending was just fantastic, especially as setup for the sequel. The combat segments were a bit weird. While I did manage to clear all stages immediately and doing everything in them as well, the incoming damage felt overly high (especially compared to Prelude to the Fallen). You basically lived with 10% HP left and then either healed up fully or died next time you got hit. The limited movement and narrow levels also made it so you really only ever relied on a few specific characters to do anything while the rest just tried to catch up. Despite these flaws, it was still fun enough - though there seemed to be a severe lack of exp or a reasonably quick way to get more outside of the first time completion bonus for levels.

I wish there was a meh option instead of just a thumbs up or down.. The combat is far more fleshed out than prelude to the fallen, and requires far more thought. Overall it vastly improves on the first game in terms of forcing you to play more tactically. Unfortunately you don't get to fully explore it due to the few oppurtunities the game gives you to level up and get your final strikes, etc. As for the story, the characters are nice, and as unique as the first game. The plot however, starts slow, and never really feels like it picks up until the conclusion. On top of that, the ending is a cliffhanger and kinda requires you to play the third game to actually complete hakus saga, which is probably not a good direction for a VN. If they were going to do this with Haku's character arc, maybe Kuon would've been a better choice for main character? I think playing the third game is a necessity for continuity's sake, and I really wish that wasnt the case rip
