FUNNY
For about one hour and a half I was 12 again playing Lucasarts adventures for the first time.
Great little point and click - cynical and funny bit of a challenge in some bits but largely a straightforward adventure. Hope the creator(s) make more.
Cool short adventure game. Nice pixel art. Cool story. Nice to play. Can need a guide.
Overall, a remarkably miserable and frustrating little pseudo-point-and-click adventure game. Be prepared to see all sorts of items and objects that LOOK like they'd be INCREDIBLY useful for the various tasks you need to undertake only to be told "I don't need that" because the programmers have something else entirely (something extremely convoluted) in mind which makes absolutely no sense given, again, the easy availability of those items which you are arbitrarily not allowed to use. E.G.: You enter a maintenance closet containing a mop, bucket, boxes of odds-and-ends, a wrench, a coat-hanger, a vacuum, glue bottles, traffic cones, etc. You are then told that you don't need any of those potentially very useful objects except the wrench. You emerge upon a balcony and need to reach the roof -- there is a pipe you, as a small child, could easily climb to reach the roof. But the game tells you that he refuses to climb it. Why? No reason. Just because. The game designers have something else in mind and don't want you finding away around it.
the whole story feels ungrouded with the lack of necessary backdrop. the transition from escaping a britney stan kidnapper to suddenly sabotaging a demon worship cult feels abrupt. if the intention is to create a sense of absurdity, then that absurdity should still feel solid after proper explanation, it should emerge from well-established structure rather than information absence. the artstyle and the song in the final scene are good though, and i like how some puzzles require you to find clue from dialogues instead of just randomly pointing and clicking
Nicely done with good use of pixel graphics and music. Decent puzzles, too, but the story could have been better. Didn't care much for the ending as it feels unrelated to the rest and also takes away player agency. Another thing that seemed weird is the boy supposedly having been held captive for five years which isn't made even remotely believable, an issue that could've been easily avoided by simply stating he was kidnapped a week ago instead of five years which has no relevance to the plot in any way anyways. However, it's fun little game regardless.
