For a game that presents itself as opaque and obscure there's a lot of solid conventional puzzle design in Ultra Nothing. (Still possible I'll eat these words but I think I've seen more or less what the game is.) It's fundamentally a Toki Tori 1 type beat, grid based (aside from the player here) with gravity and no (default) forward jump so your greatest foe much of the time is a tile-wide gap. It's even got something like the Toki Tori action inventory. Even if little is explained directly there's focused tutorial puzzles to gently introduce each new major mechanic. The biggest design distinction here (besides the sheer volume of puzzles and mechanics, which is a distinction in itself) is why Ultra Nothing calls itself a "strategy" game. Many levels after a point have allied and opposed units that move around the screen in a turn-based grid tactics fashion, while our lil doggy player character does as much platforming type movement as they want during their own turn. It's a funny blend of turn-based and real-time, top-down and side-view, all simultaneously in the same space, but oddly it feels like it makes perfect sense in play. Just take the game's logic as it is, then it's very normal.
Amazing. I am stuck deep in this game, and I only feel solace. This game would be worth 3 times the money.

nothing to say about it 👍 great puzzles with an interesting world to explore criminally underrated
whole lotta """nothing""" (which is a lot) for the price of "nothing"
This puzzle platformer is unapologetically weird, and thus very charming. Despite its looks, there's a lot of very cool puzzles in here. It's quite unique. (content warning for some cartoony blood when you die.)
In practice much more straightforward than it appears, a good block pushing puzzle platformer with an extensive element set and a loose puzzle design that still emphasizes interesting insights. Kinda falls apart under its own weight by endgame as it gets weirder and unwieldier, but for the price there is a lot of good here.
Having 100%'d this game, I would recommend it to anyone who love puzzles with complex mechanisms. The premise is simple, either get your character onto a specific object, or move a specific object onto a specific destination, but accomplishing it requires good thinking, understanding of the many, many types of interactive objects and enemies and, eventually, of the many power ups you can use to solve the puzzles. There are hundreds of puzzles and most of them are brilliantly made, for the most part requiring only thinking and no precise and time-sensitive movements. There's a handful of puzzle that require real movements and can be a hassle for less skilled players, but none of them should be mandatory for anyone simply trying to reach the end of the game. Visually, the game can be a bit of a turn-off and a few levels have annoying sound issues, but if you look past that, you have a great puzzle game.
The graphics and weird screen scroll made me literally nauseous even with adjusting the settings.
Unique presentation and puzzle design. Truly one-of-a-kind
有一定的游戏性,但是整个界面设计和美术实在太差了。 作为中学生业余作品可以,作为Itch上面的免费演示版也可以,作为Steam上面的买断制游戏,不及格。
