good continue of UFO Aftermath
Best X-COM/UFO game

I played it so many times when I was a kid. I even owned it twice and if counting Steam, I have the game three times, so I have to admit that I am biased here. But even after all these years, I still genuinely enjoy this game. I really like its style, the story, and especially the combination of tactical and strategic gameplay. Of course, this is a very old game now, and you can feel it. You can see it too. Plus, there are still some bugs, even after all these years. I actually made a guide that can help a bit - UFO: Aftershock Necessary 1.3 Patch + Widescreen , but you should still expect a game that feels old in many ways. That is probably its biggest drawback today. However, once you get past that and focus on what the game does well, there is still a really enjoyable experience here. And considering how extremely cheap the game is these days, I think it's very easy to recommend giving it a try. If you don't like it, you haven't lost much aside from couple of bucks and bit of time. For me personally, it also feels like a really great addition to the XCOM-like games and always felt like spiritual successor to the original XCOM games. And since for a long time and I feel like there were no real spiritual successors to XCOM and so the UFO series became a savior as they seriously attempt to recreate the broader experience and succeeded in many ways - with UFO Aftershock being the most polished experience out of UFO series in my opinion. The biggest problem for me is that the game becomes repetitive as you progress. Some of the story elements could also have been developed further, especially the factions. I feel that if the game had more variety and gave the factions and story a bit more depth, it could have been significantly better. Oh yeah and... bugs. So yeah, overall, it's a good game. It's not awesome, it's not great. It's simply a very solid and good game that I personally have a lot of great memories of. And yes, I know nostalgia is a big part of my review but I am really trying to be fair here. If I would let nostalgia run its full course here, I would rate the game even better. So, please don't think the nostalgia alone is responsible for this review. I just spent 54 hours playing the game on steam, and I genuinely enjoyed those 54 hours. If the game didn't hold up at all, I don't think nostalgia would have been enough to keep me playing for that long because plenty of other games where nostalgia just didn't held up for me. So yeah, I think it's worth playing. Especially at the price it's going for today. Give it a chance.

Классика!
классная реал тайм тактика с хорошим сюжетом )
Very unusual and interesting story for a turn based shooter and great replayability.
그냥 재미없음... 차라리 x컴처럼 완전히 턴제로 하던가 쓸데없이 난잡하기만함.
I brought this game first time around 2008-2009 and still have its disc (didn't play it for long time). When saw it on steam for few euros I wanted to add it into collection. Only because good time back then I am not writing harsher review. It is not OS compatibility or hardware that is causing problems. Not to mention annoying launcher!! Game now simply can't be finished even after patching to 1.3 and playing from beginning as 1.3 because something in it messed with triggers and events. Beside that bad ragdoll physics, freezing and game crashing, list doesn't end. Even if you hack save or gamedata you will just bypass one of many issues. I found posts where research "Cultist threat" never appears because its trigger doesn't trigger and that follows with story line research block and impossibility to finish game. I managed to hack and get this research and finish it but block again. Because something else too is needed to progress. I tried for few months to piece this together in free time but I am not willing to bugfix this game. I clearly remember I finished game back then 2009 and tried to install it from cd to see will it work comparing to steam version. No joy. Is it game or some external software that it uses it doesn't work on Win 11 (compatibility settings doesn't help). It makes me wonder how I managed to finish it back then. Accidental correct trigger execution? Who knows. If you manage to finish this game consider yourself lucky.
This is a real-time X-COM clone. That statement says a lot with only a few words. The thing is, it would be accurate for the predecessor to this game, UFO: Aftermath. This one does have some changes, mainly streamlining: - Your characters have three movement modes: running, crouching and crawling. There is no stamina to worry about. - Two aiming modes are available, fast and slow. There is barely a difference between the two. - There is single shot, burst, and full auto fire, if I am not mistaken. - You still have a maximum of seven characters deployed at any given time. This is really all. The result is that the missions tend to be very simplistic and repetitive: you move your soldiers forward, see enemies, the enemies start closing the distance while you shoot at them. Of course, you may close the distance, as well. In fact, you have to do it at least a little because your accuracy falls off dramatically when at what appear to be fairly short distances. Since action all occurs simultaneously, it seems optimal to just let everyone shoot as much as possible constantly. This would all be fine, if it were not for the structure of the campaign. It has a real stop-and-go rhythm, because you can and will be in situations where you have 3+ missions available simultaneously, to be undertaken with no time at all passing on the campaign map, followed by a period of zero activity for about a day. Interceptors and the skyranger from X-COM are not a factor here, though you do have a mobile base which kind of acts as the latter. This means that you are generally sitting there, doing nothing, until you spring into action once a mission appears. This is pretty much all there is to say. As much as I like real-time-tactics games, this one just seems so very small-scale and simplistic that there is really nothing to keep me coming back after a few hours. Research lasting only 12 hours sounds like it should not take long, but depending on how many missions you wish to do, it could take real-world hours. And the missions don't really give you anything, I am sure that you could just hold a region such as Western Europe, and ignore everything else, simply sitting there and researching things until the end of the game. The campaign of X-COM collapsed to simplicity if you knew what you were doing, but this game seems even less impressive. The only real positive is that shooting things is satisfying, as enemies ragdoll. Pulling off flanking manoeuvres and concentrating fire on tight hallways can definitely be fun, but I just always get the feeling that there are more complex and interesting games I could play to get that experience.
