Casual playthrough ~6 hours No major spoilers in this review! Played on a Steamdeck @MatureContent
Twin Mirror is yet another interactive story game by Dontnod Entertainment that fails to deliver anything meaningful. In this game we play as Samuel Higgs, a journalist that fled his hometown (Basswood) after a hit article of his had turned the town against him. We follow his return to Basswood as he intends to attend his best friend’s funeral but then ends up investigating his untimely death instead. Our main protagonist Samuel Higgs reminded me of Ethan Mars, the protagonist from Heavy Rain and I am almost certain that they found their inspiration there. Unfortunately, they really failed to capture that same feel that Ethan Mars brought in Heavy Rain. Ethan Mars pain felt earned and it wasn’t just told to you, it was shown through all the things he went through and at what lengths he was willing to go to save his son, he was a character that you could truly empathise with. Samuel Higgs on the other hand, seems bored of his own story. Whenever a little bit of excitement arrives, it gets instantly crushed by Samuels boring and unengaged personality and inner monologue. This guy doesn't seem at all interested in his own story and life, like he is some underpaid actor playing a role that he doesn't like. Another issue I have with the way this game tells its story is that it is unreasonably slow and most of the time spent in this game is not spent on the plot itself, but rather on finding objects and characters hidden in the environment. It just doesn't do well at keeping the player interested. The same goes for those door running mini game segments. I understand that it is supposed to symbolize Samuel taking control over his own mind, but I find it unnecessary, especially when it is cutting out other potentially more interesting scenes, like e.g. Samuel leaving the hotel room to dispose of the bloody clothing. I feel like the reason we don't get to see some of these more exciting and nerve racking scenes is because we have to control Samuel through these mind games instead. Beside these bigger issues, there are also a lot of smaller issues that help break immersion, the biggest probably being the mouth movements, which do not at all accurately represent what they are actually saying. With all the bad games Dontnod has released in recent times, I think it is time for me to reconsider if I should just stop playing any more of them. It is evident that they got really lucky with the first Life is Strange game, because they haven't been able to keep that same quality ever since. ————————————————————————————— Help me out by following my Curator, I’d really appreciate it!!
Life is strange meets Sherlock holmes
its a story game. you have an imaginary buddy who gives u advices. you go to ur hometown get tangled with a conspiracy. Either u can listen to ur imaginary friend or make ur own decisions. This story has different ending and different way things turn out. Now, things i didn't like Slow paced, graphics sometimes gets blury, color palette. I didn't like Sam as a character really generic. 6 out of 10
Decided to give this game a shot, something that has been sitting in my Steam library for an unknown amount of time. This game was chosen at random and I was really shocked at how good the playthrough was. I would recommend this game to someone looking for a decent story to escape to. 10/10
Twin Mirror is an engaging narrative thriller from DON'T NOD that blends detective work, psychological drama, and meaningful choices. The Mind Palace mechanic is a standout feature, helping investigations feel interactive and unique. While the pacing can be slow at times and some choices have less impact than expected, the story, atmosphere, and strong character focus kept me invested until the end. A solid choice for fans of story-driven adventures and mystery games. Rating: 8/10
DON'T NOD never misses with the games they put out and this one is no different. The story follows Sam, a seemingly average guy who left his hometown and everyone he knew, only to return 2 years later to attend his best friend's funeral. Later he finds out there is something suspicious about his sudden passing, leading him to investigate it. Within the first hour it felt like I had already uncovered a good chunk of the plot and it was definitely enough to keep my curiosity going. I actually ended up finishing the game because I lost track of time. I don't want to share too much to avoid spoilers, but the side characters have vastly different personalities and have the depth we know and love in other DON'T NOD games. The power, because of course there's one, is captivating. At first it reminded me of Tell Me Why, but it quickly took a dark turn. The last thing I want to say is that you can actually check the choices you make in real-time and compare them to other players. In their other titles the stats are usually at the end and I really appreciated the change. Pros: - the portrayal of the small town is realistic - the mechanics are brilliant - conversations flow naturally Cons: - the controls aren't great on mouse and keyboard - the interface is very old-school
So confused, didn't get far. But amazing
