About
As the Blight grows with each passing day, the worlds wither in turn. The drifting planes that still light the sky fade like embers, and the powers that live to see them covet dominion of the few centuries that remain. A young man from a distant plane is taken from his home, and fights to find peace, before all ends in silence.
Discover new worlds in 3 main books, with 21 enormous chapters to be explored and plundered, each handcrafted and fully unique with their own aesthetic, lore, and enemies.
Ancient temples, shadowy space piers, towering cities; all dense with loot, secrets, and deadly encounters.

Face off against 45 enemy types and 12 brutal bosses in combat combining bullet hell, hack-and-slash, and FPS.
Each encounter is a dangerous test of skill and resourcefulness; when enemies are fighting at full capacity, you won't be pulling punches.

'Essence' from slain foes turns into a 'shard', which will revive you should your party fall. But die without any shards, and you lose everything.
Surviving to the end of a book will take all your wits and skill.

Swash-buckle and parry with dual cutlasses, rocket jump with a mecha arm cannon, battle as a knight in explosive armour, or just throw big rocks at people.
Use 6 characters, 100+ unique weapons across 16 types, passive-granting armours, and items that all make meaningful differences to your playstyle.
Random loot means no two runs are the same, and equipping new loot gives you essence, so be ready to adapt!

Immerse yourself in a story inspired by classic pulp fantasy, equal parts mature and unhinged, telling a personal tale atop a brewing intrigue and an ancient tragedy.
Rich and dense prose packs a sci-fi RPG epic into a blitzing FPS campaign.

really not for me, i'm afraid i ♥♥♥♥ with it aesthetically of course, the music is cool as ever and the lo-fi art is a chimp staple, but gameplay-wise it just doesn't agree with me at all having passively followed the development of twilight epoch for a while, the developer often stressed the game's focus on difficulty, pointing to games like contra for comparison. i don't mind hard games, i like my meat boys and super hexagons and soulslikes and what have you, so i figured i'd still be in for a good time. unfortunately, most of twilight epoch's difficulty comes from mechanics that, to me, are just really really annoying and unfun in a way quite different to most other hard games i've played. from the movement to the combat every mechanic seems finely tuned to be as frustrating to engage with as possible, each one interlinked with all the others to be overall more frustrating than the sum of its parts. the movement is floaty and air strafing borderline nonexistent, with jumping and sprinting tied to the same VERY LIMITED stamina pool as attacking and the active character's secondary move (blocking, dashing, etc). this is paired with a lot of vertical platforming, punishing fall damage, and a strict time limit that stops you from picking up any equipment and almost any consumables when it runs out (including the most common source of healing) so you're discouraged from exploring. but you're also discouraged from going fast (unless we're talking speedrunner fast) because any enemy that spots you will teleport directly on top of you with multiple seconds of invulnerability as soon as you get out of its range. running away from enemies is a death sentence, unless you're good enough to fight them all at the same time at the level gate that won't open until all active enemies are dead. you have to deal with any enemy you aggro, basically, and there are a lot of enemies in each level. there are also no mid-level saves or checkpoints, so if you run out of lives or need to step away from the computer you're ♥♥♥♥ out of luck and have to start the whole "book" (which is a fairly big set of levels) again. i find myself dreading even starting the game, because it ends up being high commitment, stressful, and tedious all at the same time. so, yeah, skill issue. i'm sure some people will absolutely love this game (just look at the other guy with 60 hours and counting) but i can't bring myself to enjoy it for what it wants to be. and that's fine, maybe the next chimp game will be more my speed.

Positives: 1. The environments I adore. They are dreamy, medium size, and there is a lot of variety! I would play this game just to walk around. 2. Fast pace combat. Dodge and shoot best you can and switch between your party members(weapons) is pretty fun. 3. Music can be sparse but when its there I enjoy it. 4. The story has a unique writing style which I did enjoy 5. Different weapons! You don't know what you'll get and they have some variety Negatives 1. You are going to get lost when you first play. 2. You are in it for the long haul. Each chapter (there are 3 and 1 prologue) can take 1 to 2 hours (if you are really fast, maybe 30-40 minutes but that is not happening on your first run.) and you cannot save during these runs. It is a game that is trying to prioritizes mastery of the levels. 3. I had a few glitches where I would have to restart a section but it was mostly walking cause all the enemies were dead. I'm happy they have a "warp to start" button XD. The runs are long but you get a good amount of content! I completed everything in 9 hours but I sort of won each chapter on my first or second run. The difficulty may be changed or updated in the future(from what I hear in the discord) so I won't comment much on that. I thought it was not that difficult but still took my attention. Apparently there is a sort of dynamic difficulty that will make runs harder depending on how many points your earn. I can't really comment on this but I'm sure it adds some replayability! Overall I enjoyed it! Embrace Jank, Embrace Indie, and Have some fun!
Game design literacy check. Has a free demo and is both very unique while still being a real game rather than some weird art experiment. Recommended, do expect jank though.
Yet another banger from chimp.
There really isn't anything else like this fast paced, narrative driven game that's a bit like a dungeon crawler if you put it on pure caffeine, made it a first person shooter like Doom, and poured in a hefty helping of bullet hell elements. That's already unique enough, but the fact it has a surprisingly deep narrative is another surprise, and Twilight Epoch is absolutely full of them. Be warned, however: The learning curve for the game's systems is very steep even with a tutorial, and the game doesn't get easier after that. This is a punishing experience, and while I personally love how challenging it is, it might not be for everyone. But for those this game is for, I recommend it highly.
I have only beat book one but this game is already highly worth the price. I have never played anything quite like it. A crazy hybrid FPS Action RPG with STG style runs, ranks and bullet patterns. Highly recommend. Also the game looks great on a CRT monitor and is the correct way to play this title
one of my favorite games ever i will write a more thorough review once i feel like i expirienced enough but just play it
Engaging story, great soundtrack, cool environments. Very impressive game
Very fun and unique game. The dev did a good job of making every aspect of the game's design work together as a whole which is rare to see nowadays.
oozing with style and unique charm
