A review copy was provided by the developer.
🔶 Turbo Shell is a pure die & retry 2d platform, control a little egg and go into levels as fast as you can using a sort of magnetic spear. 🔶
Graphics (7 / 10) :
The graphics are good and have a great futurist design. 5 different worlds with his own graphics. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3133527799
Gameplay (7.5 / 10) :
Easy to learn, hard to master, base gameplay is simple, you use your “magnetic spear” for propelling yourself when you are close to a wall, so you can move really fast, and the game will have harder and harder levels and many deadly obstacle, fortunately on each level you can set 2 checkpoints (on normal mode) for retrying just after a death from a set point (and no coming back from the beginning of the level). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3133528542 Gameplay is really good and pretty fluid, but unforgiving: 1 hit = you die, fortunately levels are really short (10-30 seconds long in general) and you can use checkpoints for retrying a specific section of a level. 3 difficulties available (Normal, Hard and a hidden Nightmare difficulty), with harder levels (more obstacle) on Hard and Nightmare mode.
Price (6.5 / 10) :
Game cost 12 euros and have 82 different short levels (and others modified levels on harder difficulty), take around 3 hours just for base game on normal difficulty, and more if you want to complete each level with 3 stars or completing harder difficulty.
Story/Music/Optimization (7 / 10) :
Just some minor cinematics before a boss and before a new world, but nothing signifying. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3133528036 The music is great, good synthewave music, one for each world. No problem with optimization, played with the base graphics option of the game, run well without any freeze (played on a i5, 2Go VRAM and 8Go RAM)
Final Note (7 / 10) :
🔶 Turbo Shell is a great die and retry 2d platform with short levels, but with his own great gameplay, full recommended for die and retry player. 🔶 💚💚💚 : - Simple gameplay + simple first levels, challenging levels at the end. - 5 worlds with different design / obstacles / music. - Good content (82 shorts levels and 82 modified harder levels version) ❌❌❌ : - Really hard really quickly (after 15-30 minutes of play), you will die a lot. I got the game as a gift from a good friend and I liked it right away. The game is a fast platformer with very cute animations. The levels get more and more challenging but without being too challenging, rather they encourage me to complete it with a highscore and compare with my friends highscore. 10/ 10
This game is truly eggcelent! I'm not into speedrunning games, time pressure or racing games, so I'm definitely not the target audience for this game. And still I played it over 20 hours and Im not done yet. It is challenging and hard, but it just hooked (or pulled) me and I enjoyed playing it a lot. Especially unlocking characters was so much fun.....and hard work, but so much worth it. I can only recommend it! When playing it you wont notice that it was created by such a small team (only three people) since it just looks so gorgeous. Plus the Soundtrack is awesome!
Wer auf Plattformer der alten Schule steht kommt hier komplett auf seine Kosten. War ein reines Fest das ganze on Stream durchzuspielen. xoxo
This game makes me want to break all the eggs in the fridge 😡🤜🥚🥚🥚
Wonderful Indie-Game! It needs a little time until you fully understand how the mechanics work. After that, it really feels like flying. So if you try, give it a little time in the beginning, it´s worth it! You will develop ambition to beat your own times again and again because there´s always a faster way. Other than that, there are so many cool little graphic elements and the soudtrack is really catchy.
A fun game, well worth the money and time. You are an egg hero trying to rescue all the eggyolks in many short levels without becoming scrambled eggs while trying to do so. If you know what you are doing those levels take seconds. The shorter ones single digits. Racing the clock and improving again and again seems to be the long term idea. Being new to the game it's a challenge to beat the level at all. Which for me fit's well in a break between tedious other tasks. The push-or-pull mechanic is challenging at the start but after some time becomes intuitive like using right or left foot for tasks. The grafics are clean, a bit cute, optically pleasing and efficient at the same time. The game runs super smooth and I didn't find any technical issues so far.
Great game, I played the demo on both Normal and Hard difficulty, and just got into playing the second chapter. The concept is fresh and new, and the execution is great. In no way is this an easy game, and takes a lot of practice to get used to. I hope this game gets further out there and becomes popular, because it is damn fun. Would defiantly recommend this game for anyone looking for a difficult 2D platformer.
Challenging platformer experience with great style and polish. Try the demo.
Finished this game on Hard difficulty and I have to say it was my favorite Rage/Challenge game I've finished. I've finished Getting Over It and Eraser, but with those games, it was more like "I have to finish this because it's embarrassing to not" Turbo Shell was "I want to finish this because it's fun"
